Why do you care? As I've said before, you're not going to a game if Maine plays Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota and Denver on back to back weekends. If you just want to complain, go join the choir on MBR.

BS! I'm definitely not going to see them play the pathetic teams that are on the upcoming schedule.

Who is on the schedule is irrelevant. Maine could be playing the Bruins, Red Wings and the US Olympic Team and you still wouldn't show up. Go back over to MBR and complain some more about the basketball coach.

Former UMass goalie, Quinnipiac volunteer goalie coach... New volunteer assistant at Maine? Gendron knows him. What would people think?

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

....and so it's Guite, according to the BDN. Hmmm, interesting choice; but "Red" is driven and he would not have anyone, as an assistant, who is not equally motivated.
The same article said Leach is also considering other options, in addition to the UM job.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

Doesn't sound like Jay leach thinks its a great job, probably has a shot at an NHL position which I assume pays way more

Yes, I WOULD show up! Stop telling me what I would and wouldn't do!!!

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

Leach may well end up taking the job, but I'm not surprised he isn't rushing. It's been a long time since he was in Orono, we're just talking about an assistant/associate job, and there's bound to be some turnover in the NHL ranks, starting very soon.

I'll go out on a limb and say that his goal is to get back to the NHL. I have to think he wants to see how those firings/hirings play out before committing to college.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

I suspect Leach hasn't committed to Maine because he hasn't been offered enough money. Guite has no coaching experience but certainly has played enough hockey to know the game. Hopefully, he can recruit, as he will be spending time on the road. Interesting that he and Kerluke were team mates on the '99 championship team.

Would you take Guite-Larose-Niko or Diamond-Flynn-Abbott? It's summer so we have to talk about something.

It's nice to have a connection from the '99 team on the staff. With a small senior class they have some time when it comes to recruiting.

I'd take Guite Larose Niko without question
Niko could skate circles around any of those guys

If it's GLD vs DFA . . . GLD.

Swap Diamond for Nyquist and I'd have to think. But I'd still go with Guite-Larose-Dimitrakos as a better back-checking, more physical, more rounded line . . . that can still score.

Re: Maine Hockey 2013-2014 Part 1: Red Dawn

Can we just stop all this talk about Grant Standbrook......the guy is like 98 years old and retired. Time to start being more realistic!
OK, so you don't happen to know Grant Standbrook. Nothing wrong with that but if you did you wouldn't comment about his age as if it has slowed him down or was meaningful to his ability to contribute to the success of a hockey team. It may have slowed him down physically a little since he was a young man, but I'm a 56 year old who works out regularly and is in pretty good shape and am not embarrassed to say that in my wildest dreams know I couldn't keep up with him and I'm willing to bet neither can you. Really, he's one in a million amazing, and the only question is whether he can be persuaded to work with Red to help Maine hockey get back where it belongs. I wouldn't blame him if he didn't want to do it, but if he makes a commitment to the program, I have NO doubt that he will live up to whatever role he agrees to.
