Wally, I am not going to reread several hundred posts to prove my point, but I just randomly picked this page and found the above gem. This is what I am talking about, where Maine fans think it's just a matter of time before you're back to the FF every year. You are blind if you can't see that this is a common theme with Maine posters...
Bad choice seeing as he said hopefully, hardly a guarantee

C'mon Wally, you asked for examples and I gave you one, so are you just going to pretend that conversation never happened??

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

I saw in the Hockey East Weekly release that UMass Amherst had an attendance of over 7,000 this past weekend against Michigan State. I was curious to see what the ticket prices were there, and all of them were under $20.

How many seats total in the Alfond are marked $50 compared to the seats with the $23 price?

There are 1198 $50 seats.

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

What makes you think Maine deserves any better fate than other former powerhouses programs such as LSSU, Michigan Tech or even say Cornell that are only a shell of their former selves? Does Maine have better facilities or a more attractive location? Does Maine have more money? Is Maine a more prestigious academic institute? Is Maine more of a hotbed for homegrown D-1 talent than NY or MI? Does Maine have a more storied past? In case you forgot, Maine is competing against a few dozen other D-1 programs, all of whom want to win just as badly as Maine and many of whom are in a much more favorable position than Maine in regard to the aforementioned questions. There is only one difference between Maine having been a FF regular, powerhouse and Maine being another UMASS and that is Shawn Walsh. He doesn't get hired and hockey to this day is probably the 5th or 6th most popular sport at Orono, behind baseball, football, hoops, soccer and field hockey. I saw Shawn Walsh coach and Red Gendron is no Shawn Walsh.

I'm hopeful there is a balanced budget next year, world peace the year after followed shortly by a cure for cancer. If only wishing made it so...

How would you define an upper echelon program? No team has made three of the last five frozen fours. The days of having a dozen programs dominate the sport have come and gone, unfortunately. Maybe some day they will return but it doesn't look likely any time soon. I don't think there are many fans on here, if any, who expect Maine to be in the frozen four every year because that doesn't exist anymore.

My point is that under Walsh, Maine was at the pinnacle of college hockey and didn't play second fiddle to anyone, much like is the case with BC today. They may not make the FF every year, but other top teams like MN, North Dakota, Michigan, DU, ND are going to be contenders on a regular basis and I think that's where the fans are mistaken in that they feel Maine is once again going to be in that top tier of teams that could win it all at any time. I just dont see it playing out that way and feel that Maine is in for long stretch of mediocrity.

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

Sorry for not answering your question, but upper echelon programs are in my opinion programs that can attract top talent from anywhere in North America. Having a long, successful storied past is important, as is having top notch facilities with major financial support from both fans and the university itself. It helps to be prestigious from an academic standpoint and I hate to say it, but I think it is important to have a scandal free past which unfortunately is not the case with Maine. It also speaks well for a program if it is regularly putting talent into the NHL and if it has any Hobey winners amongst its alumni. That's just a few things that come to mind.

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

We all know about the Cedorchuk/Milbury fiasco but that's a very small sampling of BC's overall history and you obviously haven't followed hockey very long if you don't know that BC's been one of the most successful programs in NCAA history, not just the York era. Top players will be interested in going to BC regardless of who the coach is, it's not a tough sell, believe me.

signs that fall and winter are coming:

frost on the pumpkin
clear sailing on route 1 sans tourists
acs/all bear has stockpiled enough allen's to get him though to spring
chris!!!!/eaglebunny/something/something/something/carlton has stopped by the remind us all of how inadequate our program is and always will be...

I don't think you're being fair. BC is THE most successful program in NCAA history that went 52 years without a championship.

What have those six teams you listed done in recent times? Notre Dame reached the final in 2011, but other than that...? If those are the best you can come up you are proving my point.

Do you really think kids associate Maine with a scandal because some kids got free pudding and free telephone calls 20 years ago? Recruits weren't even alive when all of that happened and it wasn't really much of a 'scandal.' I think the only school in hockey east right now that could be associated with any kind of scandal would be BU and it isn't very much of one.

Carl Ton you old horse cuffer... great to have you back. Is the BC thread so busy or so full that you can come over here and support Maine Hockey? How humanatarian of you. You big BC fan, you.

To quote the Swedes: Carlton, like herring, begins to smell after two days.

Don’t forget the laundry detergent, had they investigated further they may have found toothpick violations also.

Re: Maine Hockey '13-14: Are you Red-E?

You can't have it both ways, if they don't remember the scandal then they also aren't going to remember the glory days of the 90's. MN and DU have won multiple titles in the past 11 years, while North Dakota and Michigan have been to multiple FF's and are loaded with talent, top 10 teams that almost every year have a legit chance of winning it all. Maine is hardly heading in this direction and more or less has been sliding deeper and deeper into the abyss the further removed it is from the Walsh era.

I pray Gendron has the heat turned up. He needs to set a tone.

UMN's last NCAA title was over 10 years ago and Denver's was over eight. Has Michigan even made three frozen fours in the last 10 years? When was the last time they were in the title game? North Dakota hasn't even made the frozen four since 2008. Can you do any better than those four teams? It hurts me to say this but college hockey isn't what it was 10 or 15 years ago, irrespective of Maine.

MN was in the FF two years ago and was #1 much of last year, while Michigan has been in 2 of the last 6, including the title game in 2011. MN is currently ranked #1, Michigan is #4, UND is #6 and Maine isn't even in the top 40! Are you trying to suggest that those teams don't have a brighter future than Maine? Sure things might not be like they were15 years ago, one being that Maine is no longer rubbing shoulders with the big boys and likely won't be any time soon...
