Re: Maine Black Bears - Return to the Glory Years or On to Oblivion?

You completely misunderstand.

A "redshirt senior" is someone who has already redshirted, and thus has the eligibility of a fourth year senior despite being at Maine for a 5th season.
A "redshirt junior" is someone who has already redshirted, and thus has the eligibility of a third year junior despite being at Maine for a 4th season.
etc.

If a player is GOING TO redshirt, he isn't listed as a "redshirt freshman" on the roster. He is just listed as a "freshman." Next year he will be listed as a "redshirt freshman."

Morris is playing this year. His fourth season of eligibility. Despite it being his 5th season in the program.
See Cochrane for verification, he is listed as rs freshman, Malcolm as rs soph etc Morris isn't redshirting, you have 5yrs to play 4.

Re: Maine Black Bears - Return to the Glory Years or On to Oblivion?

A few of questions pertaining the roster now and later: Rumor had it during the Frozen 4 that Quinnipiacs Canon Pieper(Forward)was transferring to Maine and would have to sit out the 2016-17 season, has anything become of this and with Tim Doherty being on the roster to date, can he play right off or does he have to sit out the 1st semester this coming season. Pretty much a given was that goaltender Tyler Johnson had very little chance of playing this season, NCAA usually hard on these issues when coming over from a Canada League and appearing in a game or two. With that said is it set in stone that Johnson is out for this upcoming hockey season and will have 3 years of play left after sitting out this season?

To add some intrigue to the Tyler Johnson situation, I did see him on the roster at one point and he is going to have number 30. Him not being on there might be because they haven't gotten the green light, but still could. Have there been many kids in recent times go to college after playing major junior? I honestly don't know of any in all of college hockey since Frankie and Prestin. I would think if Pieper is coming Larry would have done a story at some point.

I wonder if Josh Courtier could be coming to Maine? Maine could use a LH dman for this coming season, I'm not sure if he would be eligible or not though. I would think Maine would add one more D and one more forward for this year.

Does anyone else find it odd that there hasn't been any story come out on the guys who aren't coming back? The BDN regurgitated the story the Uconn blogger did but I haven't seen anything else.

Re: Maine Black Bears - Return to the Glory Years or On to Oblivion?

Also noticed Baron Thompson is no longer listed as coming to Maine on the Heisenberg site. Noticed that about a month ago but have not seen it reported anywhere? Her would have been a "blue" chipper based upon what I had read previously.
I just checked Heisenberg's 2016 list, and Baron Thompson is listed as a UMaine commit--I think, 2017. Am I missing something?

Re: Maine Black Bears - Return to the Glory Years or On to Oblivion?

However, he is not on the 2017 list.

In fact, he's not listed at all on Heisenberg's 2017 list--not under Maine on the listing by college, not on the list of USHL players, and not on the list of Midwest players. The Dubuque Fighting Saints lists him on their 2015-16 roster (the 2016-17 roster isn't posted), and that still has him as a UMaine commit.

Anyone have any info on OLIVÉR HERNER other then he's 6'7 210 and from Hungry. Elite Prospects has him committing to UMaine 4 days ago to start playing this fall.

No sure what kind of teams he is playing on in recruiting video but he blows by some guys to score a goal. if he can skate he can help?

I'm surprised they would go with another righty. He looks good in the video but he could have a dozen bad plays for each good one they show in the video. His stats are encouraging but its hard to know what kind of competition he is playing in the various leagues he has played in. Hopefully he works out and its good they are recruiting kids in Europe.

Re: Maine Black Bears - Return to the Glory Years or On to Oblivion?

We really won't know what type of player he is until he's here on the ice and playing against competition. Like always we can ONLY HOPE, "IF" he can skate out of the zone and pass out of the zone...then we have a few pluses. But then we shall see come October. Just wondering why he's been added so late and no one else has noticed him...and yes I know just this week 4 players had either Transferred (Morgan) or been cut from the squad (Musil-Campbell-Rai).

You think Maine went overseas and recruited him?

Re: Maine Black Bears - Return to the Glory Years or On to Oblivion?

You guys will be coming to Colgate's new rink for two in October. What can we expect, I remember big, bruising, physicality years ago. Seems like you've been down a bit recently, will you have some fans coming ?

I wouldn't expect much, no offense, slow, no one who can break out the puck. The goaltending will probably be ok, but not great. Lots of freshman playing.
