I have not posted all year, and I guess I would certainly be classified as a diehard, but this diehard went to only 2 games this year. One of them was the 7-0 drubbing in Manchester to UNH. First as someone who was there for the Semler days were not close to that bad. That's the good news!
The word is patience at the moment. I'm not sure that Red is the guy to turn this around, but the way recruiting is these days it takes 3 years to get your recruits in, and next year is the start of that process. I was a Tim supporter or as many of you called me an apologist for years, but the inconsistency in recruiting and the lack of communication, essentially the micromanagement ended up being his undoing. By all accounts Red is much better on the communication side, though being in NH I don't see that. Of course the biggest challenge in the end for Tim and thus far for Red has been finding a goaltender that can stop the puck! That does not change next year!
Let's hope that next years recruiting class is the start of the turn around. When was the last time 3 NHL draft picks were headed to Orono in the same class? And reports are that the biggest impact player is not among them. We have gotten bigger with Red, but we can't score, and our defense is a turnover machine. Michel and Robbins have shown promise this year, but in my limited viewing I don't see us competing for home ice for 2 to 3 years. So I'll be patient and see how these next two years play out, but easier to do from afar not being a season ticket holder.
Naturally, like so many of you am frustrated to see our once proud team fall to the likes of LSSU and finish 11th!!! I'm looking forward to going to the Frozen Four again this year in Tampa, but now wondering how many more years the only thing Maine I will see at a Frozen Four are other Maine fans?
