NU got their work cut out. Your team is playing very well. Hoping for a good gm.

Re: Maine Black Bears - Return to the Glory Years or On to Oblivion?

Game over already, 2-0 NU 9 minutes left in 1st. Narraguagus girls bball is more interesting

What a SOUR ending to the regular season...what a EMBARRASSMENT...they, the Coaching Staff and Players should be REAL proud of this showing tonight. Can't wait to hear the EXCUSES and watch out next weekend...stinks BIG TIME.

Totally agree. Embarrassment to Maine hockey and all of their fans. The coaching staff should be ashamed of themselves.

Red is failing more than I even could have imagined in my worst dream.

Admit it, long-time fans, Timmy would have had better results, and I was among those calling for his head just a couple of years ago.

This team is pretty-much hopeless. No ifs, ands or buts.

Re: Maine Black Bears - Return to the Glory Years or On to Oblivion?

No one but die hards is going to pay to watch this crap. Too bad, the team just stinks. Goal tending, D Forwards, Staff, it appears to be the whole thing. We all knew bringing Maine back was going to be tough but at this point its even tougher. Better hope the incoming recruits can play but even if they can next years team won't get home ice. Sad.

I was in a very distinct minority and took a lot of grief on this board for supporting Tim. I was critical of Tim for not being able to get more than just one quality line. He understood the college game and knew how it was allowed to be played. Gendron is obsessed with the physical part of the game to a fault. As others have said, this program has a long road ahead to once again be respectable.

Re: Maine Black Bears - Return to the Glory Years or On to Oblivion?

I have not posted all year, and I guess I would certainly be classified as a diehard, but this diehard went to only 2 games this year. One of them was the 7-0 drubbing in Manchester to UNH. First as someone who was there for the Semler days were not close to that bad. That's the good news!

The word is patience at the moment. I'm not sure that Red is the guy to turn this around, but the way recruiting is these days it takes 3 years to get your recruits in, and next year is the start of that process. I was a Tim supporter or as many of you called me an apologist for years, but the inconsistency in recruiting and the lack of communication, essentially the micromanagement ended up being his undoing. By all accounts Red is much better on the communication side, though being in NH I don't see that. Of course the biggest challenge in the end for Tim and thus far for Red has been finding a goaltender that can stop the puck! That does not change next year!

Let's hope that next years recruiting class is the start of the turn around. When was the last time 3 NHL draft picks were headed to Orono in the same class? And reports are that the biggest impact player is not among them. We have gotten bigger with Red, but we can't score, and our defense is a turnover machine. Michel and Robbins have shown promise this year, but in my limited viewing I don't see us competing for home ice for 2 to 3 years. So I'll be patient and see how these next two years play out, but easier to do from afar not being a season ticket holder.

Naturally, like so many of you am frustrated to see our once proud team fall to the likes of LSSU and finish 11th!!! I'm looking forward to going to the Frozen Four again this year in Tampa, but now wondering how many more years the only thing Maine I will see at a Frozen Four are other Maine fans?

Well said...it has been a FRUSTRATING season...and with signs that it may continue is not good...fully right in they(Maine)need a solid/game stealing netminder...someone that the TEAM knows has there backs and pushes them. With that said and I know this will not go over with some...BUT...WHY not for game #1 versus Northeastern start Romeo in net...and why you say...well why NOT...maybe, just maybe it would light a fire under the TEAM that they have nothing to lose but everything to gain in playing for a seldom used goaltender...maybe they could finally put together a TEAM effort...oh well...but it was good hearing your thoughts Bob F.

Tim had other problems besides one line. But Red isn't getting very far either. This program is now lake st junior. Sucks. If I can't find someone to split my tickets for next season I'm likely to give my tickets up. Cost to much money and to much time for too little enjoyment.

As a season ticket holder myself since 1978, I choose to watch the performance of this team at every home game and occasionally on the road. At current prices and quality of play, I'll be seriously considering giving them up.

Let the AD know your feelings through a e-mail/letter or in person...don't hold back. I've been in touch with people on my tickets and told them that I was not happy about the prices AND the product on the ice...trust me that got there attention.

Re: Maine Black Bears - Return to the Glory Years or On to Oblivion?

Patience everyone, patience. Let's give Red his full chance and not chop his legs out from under him too early. For sure we don't want to be perceived as a school that doesn't even give its head coaches a chance to succeed. We did give whitehead that chance. You do that too much and no one, I mean no one, will want to travel and live in Orono Maine for a slim chance of succeeding. Let's face it, the right guy has got to love the area and also be a good coach. We have so many overly reactionary fans nowadays that it's a cause for concern imo

Reactionary would have been in the 1st year or even the 2nd, no one has said diddly squat until this year. I don't see that as reactionary.

I do. Only third year and not a chance yet to get all his guys in place . Give him at least till year 5. Then open up both barrels if definitive and clear progress not seen. It's only fair

My wife and I have been fans since 93 and are season ticket holders/donors, but we are not going to re-up next year. We are going to cherry pick 4 games just to see some of the better teams come to town, but I think we are going to save our money for other things. We have been going to the women's basketball game which have been fun.

Too bad, I doubt we will ever get season tickets again.

Re: Maine Black Bears - Return to the Glory Years or On to Oblivion?

One of the things no one is considering here is the learning experience. Sure Red has some assistant coaching experience and some head coaching experience, but this is a new level for him. It takes a while to figure out how and when to push these kids buttons. Push them too often or at the wrong time and you get nothing or little. He's gotta be given that chance to learn and he should have his first class as seniors
