Maine Black Bears 2026 Offseason: Missing Out on Mistlebacher

Walsh would have been able to coach him
Thats a noteworthy comment.
Not bashing Barr or anything but good coaches these days just gave to figure out how to deal with the personalities and persuade them to your culture.
This skill becomes even more important now with the mobility of players.
Ive said it before that I feel like Barr has some development to do in this area as a head coach.

I'm happy if Gerrior, Pichette, Komorov, Scott, Russell, Scholle and Fowler are back. I would like to see that supplemented with a couple of good juniors/seniors from the portal and look to pick up great second line guys from junior who feel that they have been undervalued and have something to prove. We can't out Big10 the Big10 or out Boston Boston. But we can kick their asses being the best Maine we can be.

Not to diminish his talent in any way, but I felt like the team played some its best best hockey when he was injured and not on the ice. He and Maine were just not vibing.
I've heard the rumors but I don't get it. Wisconsin showed that you need offense to win. Why do you want to get rid of what appears to be a very talented offensive player.? He knew their was 2 ends of the rink. Did he coast around some, sure but some of that was setting up for a shot which early in the season worked pretty well. Did he get national attention as a result of his shot, yup, so did Bradly and look where he is now. Do you only need guys who knock in rebounds? not create goals on snipes. I think you need both .

Yeah we need puck talent, and Barr just needs to learn how to deal with conflicts that arise from talent egos. Idk just hard work and grinding only gets you so far.

Idk if Jack Stockfish or Barrett Hall are on our radar but one of them would be nice to have down the middle, at least for one season.
If I remember correctly Stockfish was a BIG dude - and we could use some size. Additionally would fit the build of us taking transfers from smaller universities that we played in non conference games since Barr has been there. Bentley transfers / Mitton from Colgate....

Whats the deal on tampering before the portal opens. Is it a free for all? or are their actually rules? Can advisors approach other programs, can the players before the portal opens? Seems funny guys sign on the first day.

As far as I know, tampering is banned on paper, but its well known that it is rampant and every single program engages in it. Im a subscriber to McMahon's newsletter and a little bit ago he had a segment about how the NCAA had put out a memo reminding schools that tampering is not allowed, and he said while he applauded the NCAA for trying, that it was never going to be able to be actually enforced. So, in short, tampering is supposed to be banned but everyone does it.
