Maine Black Bears 2026 Offseason: Missing Out on Mistlebacher

Still optimistic that this coaching staff can bring in the necessary pieces to remain relevant. Hopefully the ticket price hike is warranted by the product on the ice.

Ive heard rumors from folks close to the program I wont repeat, I cant speak for their truth, but if partially true Barr wouldnt spend $1 on Poirier, because of his search for culture players.
Theres always a bit of truth in rumors.
I want to be careful in wording this because I don't feel it's right to sh-t on leaving players, as I was very excited to watch Poirier this year and missed him greatly post-injury. From night one, his demeanor didn't look like a Barr culture guy. Just the way he carries himself doesn't seem to fit. Obviously, he's tremendously talented and most certainly outplayed his 5th round draft status this year.

I'm excited to see what the staff comes up with this year. Lord knows they needed a full reset.

Poirier put it to Barrs wife or something? Poirier was the most talented player returning by far

I completely agree with this.
I'm not going to feed this because I've been characterized by some as "shitting on the player on the way out" which I'm honestly not speaking for myself when I pass on what I hear, I actually like all the players even if they drive me nuts with their play sometimes. But let's just say this didn't work out and leave out the rest. We will need to fill this void, period. You can only have so many grinders and pray for a 2-1 or 1-0 game.

One thing Ill be keeping in mind during portal season here is that stats can be misleading. I remember thinking that both Charlie Russell and Taylor Makar had really underwhelming numbers in their season before they got to Maine, and both were key contributors in 24-25. Still excited and curious to see who ends up arriving in Orono from elsewhere around the nation.

Can't blame him for leaving then. No one with his talent is going to sit in stands half the season.
He was legitimately injured which is why he didn't play the rest of the way. If he was getting close to a return I'm sure a practice scrap probably didn't help his case.

The talent is undeniable with him which is likely why he's going to be one of the better players that hits the portal this cycle. But when Barr talks about culture problems I think he's probably one of the bigger culprits in that room.

Walsh would have been able to coach him
