(and in my opinion, he was the "reason" that Maine lost to Minnesota in the Piotrowski game)

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010 - 2011

Alfie's backup was 3-0-1 with a 1.73 gaa
and a future all Hockey east goalie his senior year... also he played a lot for the Oilers and for the Senators in the NHL
(and in my opinion, he was the "reason" that Maine lost to Minnesota in the Piotrowski game)

(but i didn't remember either, I had to look it up)

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010 - 2011

Who was Alfies backup?, I can't remember. I do remember Alfie certainly didn't set the world on fire during the regular season, but he was pretty good when it mattered:D. Sully has been good, no doubt about it.

During the regular 1999 season Grant was working with Alfie to make some changes in his game. Alfie struggled with those changes and his numbers reflected that. It simply wasn't working, Shawn told Alfie to relax and continue to play as he had in the past. Possibly NHL brass found the same faults with Alfie that Grant did causing him a position at the next level, although he played at Vancouver briefly.

Oh, coincidently Alfie is playing in Denmark for Soenderjyske and they won the championship last spring. He has retuned to play for them again this year.

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010 - 2011

Yeats played pretty well in a HE championship against BC if I remember correctly. :) In fact, he wuz outstanding in that pressure packed game.

he did play well in that game, but how do you not give the start to the guy that went 20-3-4 with a 2.19 GAA and a .921 save percentage? Yeats' line was 6-8-3 with a 3.09 GAA and a .887 save percentage. Morrisson only gave up 6 more goals on the season than Yeats despite playing 10 more games....

Already answered:

Hey, but it was the 'rotation'!

Be careful what you wish for!

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010 - 2011

Not sure if anyone posted this yet but I thought this was an interesting quote from Tim Whitehead about the goaltending situation.

"Dave Alexander, our goalie coach, has done a fabulous job helping these young goalies gain some confidence and improve technically and move forward each week. Dan Sullivan has taken the front spot for now, but Shawn Sirman, who is vastly improved over last year, is pushing him. Martin Ouellette, who might be the most talented of the three, is the youngest and he is going to start challenging for ice time. What is exciting for us is that what was a weakness last year has really become a strength now. It is going to be a long season so I am sure that there will be some ups and downs with the goaltending. We are pleased with their attitude and focus. Their work ethic has been tremendous, improving each weekend. It’s not an accident; they are working hard to get better.”

Didn't Yeats play most of the big games(maybe all of them) before that season?

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010 - 2011

Road games carry the exact same weight as home games in the PWR.

Games against non-TUC teams have to be won. They aren't throwaway games. If the opponent is pitiful the win will get dropped from your RPI altogether - if you lose or tie to a non-TUC it can kill your RPI. If they somehow manage to become a TUC (hello Union) it can keep you from making the tournament. Not to mention it is two points in Hockey East...those points can be pretty valuable come March.

Right, but who said we were planning to lose those games someone else starts? Every game has to be won.

We're only going to win games Sullivan starts?

Every game has some mathematical significance but TUC matchups moreso. You know BC is going to be in that top 25 at the end of the year, so if you have a declared #1, you put that foot forward against a team like that.

But you don't stop playing everyone else...so what better time than that series at this point?
