Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

Travel update: The team is supposed to fly out of Logan tomorrow afternoon. I also have a bridge in Brooklyn that I'm looking to sell...

Hopefully players make their flight connections on the way back to school..........

I'm more concerned with them getting to Florida than getting back home. They just closed Newark and the state of New Jersey has joined MD, PA and MA in declaring a snow emergency. American Airlines canceled all flights to and from Northeast airports until at least 10AM. I'd say their odds of getting out of Logan tomorrow are less than 50/50.

This happens every year.......always travel issues. Maybe they should go down there for an entire week.

If Uncle Harry was still writing checks they probably would. I doubt the Athletics Department can justify the finances of sending the hockey team to Florida for a week before the Florida tournament.

Travel update:

Somehow our flight from Boston is still on so off to Logan we go. Could be a long trip...

On top of the snow that's falling, the storm slowed down south of NYC and intensified...we're now looking at almost category 2 hurricane force winds out there.

ETA:
Our team departed Orono at 6:30 am this morning in the midst of a major blizzard. Stay tuned as today could be interesting.

News said they were staying in Boston since Thursday, but this is the same report that said they were playing the Hawkeyes, so I should have known better.
Glad I'm not driving in this ****.

ETA2:
Flight's canceled. We are still being told to keep driving south. Going about 30 mph on I 95. We said today would be interesting...

lenzi's last two tweets

Furthermore, a few players didn't make it to campus and are re-routing flights from their home cities to Florida

via @MaineIceHockey, the Black Bears are en route to Boston - yes, in the blizzard - but their afternoon flight to FLA has been canceled

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

No further word on the travel. I see that there is a JetBlue flight to Fort Myers that took off at 6:50, but they are a day behind on flights so I doubt the team made that. The AirTrans and Lufthansa flights were both canceled. Maybe they can drive there faster :p

ETA:

Took us 6 hours to get out of Maine this AM. We practiced in Exeter, NH this afternoon and have a charter flight to Florida in the morning!!

Here's the latest news. Team left Orono at 6:00 am this morning. Took 6 hours to get to NH. The team practiced in Exeter, NH this afternoon and have a charter flight tomorrow to Florida. Winter travel is such a crap shoot.

BDNews reporting that Leidermark won't make trip to Florida...he's stuck in Sweden and that Diamond may not be able to make trip either.

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

It seems every year this stuff happens, players can't get there due to weather. Not sure how they can do it different but losing Diamond for these games sucks. Huge PWR implications

A charter is the only way to go in late December from Maine. Alliegiant had a flight leave at noon but only after an aborted takeoff on the first try. It was behind another aircraft that had taken off, a charter.

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

Future participation in this tournament by Maine should hinge on the ability to fly a charter jet down there. If that cannot be arranged then maybe it is time for them to end their relationship with this tournament.

Huh? Give up on one the most successful and competitve college hockey tournaments annually because of a little inconvenience? What ta F are you smoking man?

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

The team arrived in Florida around mid-day. Let's hope Diamond can still make it.

Huh? Does anyone really care about this tourney other than the participants? Do recruits come to Maine because we play in this tournament? This annual freak show road trip to Estero, FL is a JOKE.
