Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

This isn't October, Maine is a veteran team, they got spanked beyond spanked. They didn't even bother to show up against a team that is a nat'l player. Very disappointing and will have consequences at the end of the year

For a change they have a legitimate excuse for the Miami loss. Even the game against BC when they were dominated they outshot them, so to be totally beaten up tells me they did not have their legs. IF this team with this talent plays below .500 hockey the 2nd half then I will join with those calling for a change. However this team has too much talent and should without a doubt make the tournament. Yes the loss to Miami hurts in the PWR. But take care of business and go .500 vs. BU, BC, and UNH and take 2 out of 3 vs. Merrimac and they should position themselves for home ice. I see Maine getting at least 3rd, avoid the 4-5 match-up and get to Boston.

This team is different from last year, they need to learn to win, to close out and a comeback victory vs. Cornell regardless of their stature is a good W and hopefully something they can build on!

Excuses are getting to be a Habit...attitude needs to change where losing is not acceptable no matter if there are injurys or who your playing...time to do it on the ICE and NO more Excuses in print. It seems to me..{imo}..that this TEAM has a poor Work Ethic game in and game out...not ever player but far too many..again thats imo ONLY.

What excuses in print? Still holding on to Sweetland because no one has brought that up in print in 3 years? I'm just curious what everyone who hates the comments in the BDN wants the boys to say? What they say to me doesn't read like excuses....they've been accountable and they haven't blamed anyone but themselves. Blaming someone else is an excuse, right?

Now, I think there's a huge difference between just saying the right things and actually putting them into action. And last year they failed to that big time. Like I posted below, I hope today's win is a sign they're taking that to heart and actually DOING it, not just talking about it. But honestly, these guys are required to talk to the press after a game, whatdo you want them to say?

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

Look they're 9-5-4. They were 10-6-1 after Florida the last two seasons. This thing's going to be made or broken in the dog days of Hockey Easy play in Feb. If they end the season 2-11-1 like 08-09 and 2-6 like last year, it's a moot point. They're where they need to be right now; The difference needs to be made in improvement down the stretch. If that's possible with this core and under Tim's leadership is the question.

Pretty reasonable post. Coming out of this tournament with mediocre and/or disappointing results isn't new.

The expectations are different this season though, given how they ended last season. A whisker away from winning the HE title in a game where your back up goalie gives up 7 goals. That back up being in with little experience because the lead guy got kicked off the team. A pretty disappointing end to the season that should leave this team hungry. The talent on this team seems much stronger up front(and probably in goal) then the teams over the last few seasons. Sullivan seems like a sound positional goalie and he seems like he can backstop this team to a strong showing nationally. Where it seems lacking is some of the guys on the blue line haven't lived up to their promise. Guys like Hegarty were highly recruited and had a lot of accolades for his age group. He should be making a very strong impact. Yet he's lowest in plus minus for the team's defensemen at -2. Banwell showed promise early and is a -1 as a senior. I think the major knob on this team is getting Hegarty and Banwell to step up and play like solid upperclass defensemen. Then maybe the 4 goals against by Miami, or the late comeback by UNH doesn't happen. If those aren't happening then it is a different feeling of confidence, but they did, so the fan base is spot on demanding more and spot on for not accepting mediocre. oh this is... IMO... for acs :D

Good job, last sentence :) You guyz are doing alright....Of course if its a logical or reasonalbe post, its not need to 'my opinion' that m'fer. :D Where ta hell you been blackie ?

Yeah man, expectations higher for this group.....especially now with some decent tending. Maybe we're all freakin out too early and these clowns'll come together down the stretch and go on some sort of a tear. Stranger things have happened, who knoz maybe Timbo will step asideand let Cork show 'em how. :)

I agree, I made the excuse this time. Tim and the team did not, which was a pleasant change as we have seen the excuses to many times and you see my quote every time Diego posts. Don't agree on the work ethic until the Miami game we had outshot the opponent in every game. Just nee to learn how to win. I know shots are not an indicator of winning battles in the "dirty" areas, but it tells me we can get the puck to the net. I still believe this team will be fine and they need to be as this team is the one that others will need to build upon!

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

Tim made some changes in the Cornell game which paid off. Having Swavely, Corkum and Amestoy in the lineup may have generated a spark for the team and given the benched players a wakeup call. Losing to the Red Hawks in that fashion was still a travesty. If this team can focus they have the talent to be in the post season.

Little BlackI keeps me busy. :) He got his first skates and stick for christmas. Of course, he's more interested in hitting the dog instead of the puck. But that just means he plays with an edge... playing the body and all. :D

Saw a guy in Rio Grande that looked like he had to many mojitos and wondered if it was you... then wondered if it was me after all.

Yup, was there last year same time. I was at rio del mar. Can't beat the mojitos and mofungo(spelling?). :)

Re: Maine Black Bears 2010-2011 - Part Deux

Agreed, need a Brian White or an AJ Begg right about now though. Hopefully a few guys emerge on defense, helps the pk and makes the game slower for the freshmen goalies.

Dont know where rio del mar is....we're off to the west coast of the main island at rincon this year. mostly a younger crowd I would guess, so looking for mojitos and half naked women :D maybe take a trip down to ponce and see some sights...who knowz, maybe i'll get up on a surfboard.:) now that'd be a treat for sore eyes. ;)

Yeah....must be the defense and letting up 4 goals is the problem. It wasn't that the forwards put up 15 shots in the game. That's right...less than Miami put up in the 1st period. This team needs better scorers. Period.

They were physical defensemen their whole lives, now they are in a "system" that undoes what they have learned.
Banwell is still willing to haul guys down out front, but he gets benched for it.
Hegarty plays like he is Shemansky's size so that he does not get called for roughing or boarding.

I don't have any idea how they played before they got to Maine, but they're not getting it done now.(Especially Banwell.)

Furthermore,I'm not putting this on Whitehead, either. He may or may not coach a "stick-check" approach to D,but I'm very sure he doesn't coach a "lug the puck/make a bonehead pass low, through your own crease" approach, either.A lot of our problems on D are the players' own, clearly.

I think the young D are playing pretty well.I'd rather see them get more ice,and play conservatively, than see the veterans continue to screw up.

IMO! :)

Lets HOPE your right...I just wonder WHY there's no Step to the Front guy on this team..? AND by that a player with either Emotion on the ice or in the Locker room between periods. Someone with some **** & Vinager...a LEADER.

Bingo!!! Whitehead has clearly told the D that ALL penalties are bad and they should play like he coaches...like a pu**y. The soft D can only be blamed on coaching. And any D that has sat this year is playing not to make a mistake. Tough way to improve.
