On the one hand, you don't want those goalies to be playing paranoid -- that if they let in one soft goal they're done for 6 weeks. But if you want someone to step up, you have to give them a chance to do it.
So, why not. Let's see what the kid does. Fingers crossed.

I think Mangene had a heck of a game last night and I thought Martin did too until the last 2 minutes. The tieing goal was the result of a tired Maine team who appeared to be done even playing their "most hated rival". Not sure on the winner except it looked like Hegarty got used like a cheap streetwalker.
Is it just me or has the D sucked since Campbell Blair left?
UMass game should be interesting the place will probably be empty as Pats play at same time. I can see Maine rolling over, playing with their heads down or I can see them coming out like gang busters. After last night I see this team going nowhere, no way they should lose that game and I don't see it as a fluke

That's a heck of a point. Never really put the timing together but yeah, that's exactly right.
That was the choke job to end all choke jobs. You gotta find a way to finish that game AT HOME. That's a game this program isn't supposed to lose at Alfond. You take 3 points on the road in this league, I have no qualms...even giving up the tying goal at BU, you got a point on the road, so OK. At home, finishing is a must. And the inability to clear the zone and get an empty netter in the 5x6 situation is becoming a very scary trend. It's a pattern at this point and it's not good.

They've got to learn how to close out an opponent once they've got them down, thats for sure.
Though its a reg season game and painful to cough up the points, its gotta be a good lesson they wont soon forget. Thats the game of hawkey though, things can change on a dime like that. Lets see how they handle UMass on Sunday, should be interesting. Hopefully by the Florida tournament, they'll have Dimmen and O'Neil back and they'll go on a mission. I really like the talent and work ethic ofthis group...they gotta address some flaws though to improve. Is it just me or do the recent goalies seem to have a tough time hugging the posts? Seems like a lot of goals scored on them have recently have been ones that the goalie wasnt squeezing the post.

I'm not the fence with Ouellette he got tested in close and made the saves. He is quick, his butterfly takes up some room but I'm not sure he is their mentally quite yet. He is 18 afterall. Its still a problem of D and has been. I hope Sully plays Sunday.

Ouellette showed some poise and made some very nice saves. This was a very tough loss. Made even tougher losing it with a lead and then OT.
Overall, I thought Maine played very well. Good forecheck and stick handling. Could have had a player in front of the net for a pass or rebound several times.
Losing Anthoine and shuffling lines didn't help either. The mystery is how could not Maine clear the zone for over 1.5 minutes. I am on the other end of the ice but there must have been some holding going on. I wonder if Tim will receive a letter of reprimand by Bertagna? The positive is that Maine will learn from this and move on. It's a learning process and there are a lot of hockey games left to play.

Yup. Not much to add. Defense and special teams are holding this team back a lot more than goaltending is.

Mangene could just a coach who can teach him to look up and see his team mates (but I don't think that can be taught)
Ahhh, Cambell Blair, whose best quote was "I don't care what Tim tells you, I want you go go out there and hit someone."
Had Cornell cleaned a clock before the third Gretzky pass on UNH's tic tac toe goal last night, and taken the penalty...but that is not how we play defense at maine....
As for the loss. I thought it was to be expected with Nyquitst unable to win a foot race (re:his goal last night... had that happened last season, he would have not just won the foot race, but he would have increased his lead on the UNH lummox, from blue line in... he never opened the gap, he is noticeably slower than last season)
Dimmen especially is a huge loss right now. he is great at both ends of the ice.
Ouelette played better than anyone could have hoped for. (but don't tell me AGAIN that there were no fat juicy rebounds... there were 5, I counted.... and BC will score on some of them, PC will not/did not and luckily UNH did not).
UMass will be very interesting... I think I read that UMass and UNH had the longest unbeaten streak in the nation coming into this weekend.
last, I saw some discussion on the Anthoine major... I do not think that should have even been a minor.
He was not blind sided, although he was hit directly from behind... he was looking right at Anthoine as he came in.... he also did not go head first into the boards (and this is what officials are looking for when determining if it is a major), he was already in contact with the glass, standing straight up... there was no chance of a neck injury... bad call)... and Bob said it best that there were plenty of these in the BU game that were not called ... and there were plenty of them in the PC series. (and I have seen plenty non calls at other rinks this season in NCAA hockey... something was up with that one)
Last... don't worry about losing another third period lead guys, look at all those frozen 4's.. surely they mean something.

Tough,tough lost...plain and simple.....Ouellette is for real and a rotation of Sullivan/Ouellette should be in order for the next month or so..[imo]...should be a welcome addition when O'Neill..[Florida Classic]..and Dimmen..[1st part of January]..make it back from the injury list. Thought Mangene was outstanding last night and Tanner House did alot of good things also last night....bottom line in this tough lost was they HAD there chances to break UNH's back and they didn't and kudo's to UNH Netminder as he helded his ground after the 3rd Maine goal....now onto UMass on Sunday.

Yeah he dips his shoulder and he is going to the net no matter what, but he works like dog and he had 3 chances last night because of his speed. He isn't setting the table but he is making some chances so.

I just don't see his weakness being worked on. I did see him try for a nice pass at Providence, so at least he looked up that one time. But notice the difference between Diamond going to the net with Nyquist last night, and Mangene all the time. Diamond is one of the best goal scorers Maine has ever had, and all he did was look to pass on that play.

Diamond is a special player but I think Mangene is also, think Todd Jackson in his first 2 years. Just watched the replay of the Anthoine hit, wow, doesn't look like a major to me, it certainly wasn't a classic boarding major
