That's pretty cool, hopefully they can get win at Alfond next weekend and start competing on a regular basis. Looks like Matt Morris has made an argument for some playing time. Its also good that Anthoine and Beattie made some noise this weekend. In 13 years of the tournament no team has ever won back to back, until now.
Matt Morris plays 49mins, 27 seconds, allows 1 goal, makes 22 saves!! Where did this come from?Kyle Beattie MVP award.
There is no doubt Matt Morris provided a spark. Matt Morris on the all tournament team with his 2.5 periods of play. This could be a turning point in the season for this team.
I think this is probably a lost season due to the start but it definitely makes you feel much better for next year. I can't remember a year when Maine had more injuries, its not just guys missing games either. Lomberg and Shore not being able to practice all preseason certainly couldn't have helped develop chemistry. If you look at Maine's season game by game they really haven't been second best in any games outside the five game stretch between the second Providence game and the UNH game. It would have been interesting what kind of season Maine would have had if they had a somewhat normal amount of injuries.
They were down 3 goals to Harvard not 5 goals it was 4-1 after 2 periods and they scored 4 in the 3rd to win not too mention that was an NCAA game and this was a regular season game won by a team that is 4-11-2.Reminded me of the Harvard game a few years ago when Maine was down by 5 goals and came back to win.

Nice start to the second half of the season. Hope that gets a few of you guys down off the ledges ...![]()

The Maine team that I saw was kind of fun to watch. Not at all what I expected. Saw a lot of hustle, and some of the newer guys really do look promising. Not just the obvious ones like Shore, but also guys like Hutton.
Honestly, I *did* see the team that I was afraid I was going to see . . . but they were wearing UMD sweaters. Outside of the 3rd period v Maine, I didn't see much from them. They looked like a team going through a painful roster turnover. Ferris was fun to watch. A little bit undersized, and Cornell took advantage of that.
Cornell was impressive in spots, but really inconsistent and it seemed like they got away from their strengths for long stretches v Maine. I'd be frustrated if I were a Big Red fan.
Maybe the best part of the weekend was Morris stepping in to hold down the fort v Cornell. I've never argued for Whitehead to switch goalies at the drop of the hat, and I won't here. But it'd be nice to see Morris get a little more playing time this year, and a bit more than that next year. This roster could be back on the upswing in a couple years, and if they go anywhere it'll be because when Morris gets the job, he's ready for primetime.
Ouellette has had a good stretch,he has had a lack of support in the scoring department...he was the key in the win over UMD...he had a tough outing vs. Cornell...with that said I would think he's still considered the #1 netminder for Maine...but you have a point in that Morris has to play some from here on in...it would be a good move to play each vs Mercyhurst this coming weekend in Portland/Orono...after that with Conference play in full swing the moves in goal will be up to TW...and that I am not positive he'll do the right things...bottom line is Maine is in last place in Hockey East, with a good chance at a playoff spot, not a given but 7th or 8th should be up for grabs with the likes of Vermont/NU/UML/UMass/Merrimack all in play with the top 4 spots more or less going to BC/UNH/BU/Providence(imo)...so I think there's places to pick and choose and play Morris, sadly this leaves Sullivan as the odd man out,but goaltending is a unforgiven position at times, another more or less "what have you done for us lately"....all in all 2 wins this weekend has to be a confidence booster...but this has been a MESS of a season to date(4-11-2)...myself I would prefer to be playing for a Home Ice spot and postioning the Team for the NCAA's,but we all know thats a pipe dream of late with this current Coach...our lump of coal this year is fighting for a playoff spot(7th or 8th)...things have to come to a change right after the season...Maine Hockey Program is something no one wants to see be talked about as "it used to be"---"remember when"---"wow what a game/team last night"---"this team could make alot of noise this season".....oh well time will tell...AND to all have a HAPPY NEW YEAR 2013..!!!!!!You bring up a good point about Morris's playing time. As good as Ouellette has been playing, probably a tandem of Morris and Oullette would keep both of them sharp. I always figured Jimmy wanted his protege goalie to get one year under his belt before JM took over Timmay's job
Latest USCHO article lauds Minnesota, Minnesota State, and Vermont for their tournament wins. No mention of Maine. Errors in predicting the future tournament winners (BC, UNH) are understandable, but neglecting mention of current tournament winners is puzzling.
