Maine 2012-2013 Fade to Black

Re: Maine 2012-2013 Fade to Black

No need to get upset. This team has a tremendous GPA to go along with a strong schedule and great returning players and recruits next season. Coach Whitehead just needs a chance to put it all together.

Wow...maybe you have some inside informaton because the players' frustrations with Sandie is that you have flip flopped to the other side so many times beatting up on the coaches and players so who is it?
Chance to put it together? OMG...do you have any idea how many days? How many practices? How many years? He has had many chances my friend:)

Re: Maine 2012-2013 Fade to Black

Back to this........no way that UMaine with its lack of $$$$, facilities, and quality in-state football recruits.........should be sponsoring a D-1 football program. It pains me to say that because I really enjoy football Saturdays in Orono. All of the $$$$ should be flowing into hockey and basketball........2 sports that UMaine COULD be bringing in major revenue. With hoops looking like they have a terrific new home in the Cross Insurance Center.........the time is right to get serious about these 2 programs.........instead of what looks like Abbott & Co. continuing to spin their wheels. I just don't get it..........

OK........back to the kool-aid and happy thoughts.:) Give Coach Whitehead an extension.......he deserves it!

The cross center is a horrible location for the hoops programs. Students aren't going to get excited traveling to bangor to watch the bball teams, let alone bad bball teams. The venue needs to be on campus. The cross center is way to big for bball, duke's arena barely fits 7,000 people. The bball teams need an intimate atmosphere with no more then 3,000 seats otherwise they will be playing in a empty arena, yea great idea...

Greasier pizza= does not equal tastier. Have some otto's in portland thats real pizza.

Re: Maine 2012-2013 Fade to Black

yeah, I've eaten at the Auburn, Raymond, Portland, and Scarborough Pat's, and none of them are even close to Orono. The pizza's just greasier and tastier there. There's nothing like being in the downstairs at Pat's after a game.

Course, the pizza may not be quite the same in Orono, since old Pat is no longer around to add his secret ingredient to the sauce, the ash from his cigar.

His son runs it now and Bruce swears it's actually the pans that give the Orono pizzas their extra flavor. They have been the same pans for years and years and are all "well seasoned". But yes, the sauce is missing something without the cigar ash...

I gotta believe the ovens have a big influence on that flavor. I assume they havent been changed out in 50 years or so :)

As far as Ottos goes, yeah thats good pizza too, actually excellent with the thin crust..but comparing it to Pats is like comparing apples to bananas even though they're both pizzas.

I will try Otto's,

but is it better than the Pizza Joint on Forest Ave?
(that is my all time favorite pizza)... and there used to be a place called the Cheesecake Pizza place in the Old Port, and it was the best, with the best cheesecake... DRY as could be!

Cornell to the Everblades? That's almost funny, considering the Everblades are run by a Cornell guy (if memory serves)

pretty sure the guy who runs the everglades has degrees from both Maine and Cornell (and thus both teams' appearance in the tournament every year... But I am not 100% certain).

I am kinda shocked to see Timmy saying that Joey might sign with an AHL team... he is going to be comically slow and everyone is going to be able to pick the puck off his stick... maybe he will be the AHL Tie Domi

It's a GREAT facility for the hoops programs and a GREAT facility for paying customers in terms of comfort, convenience, sight lines, etc, etc. Students don't give a rats *ss about the hoops programs.

Agreed. If they market it right it could be a huge success. I think a lot of people view Bangor as being a lot closer than Orono.

I agree with all bear. Comparing Otto to Pat's is like apples vs. oranges. Or Chris Imes to Jim Montgomery, to make this more on topic. Otto does the "gourmet" pizza thing- their mashed potato and bacon pizza is amazing. They do great work with different cheeses and toppings that you won't see at a neighborhood pizza joint. Pat's in the Old Port certainly isn't the Orono Pat's (nowhere is), but I would say it's the second best of the chain. They need about 40 years of baked on grease on their pans before getting to Orono's level though. But as far as just getting a traditional style pie in Portland, it's the best going.

Oven has been changed, they have the conveyor oven now, never did when I was a kid

It has since been deleted but Devin Shore tweeted that Maine hockey was playing at Frozen Fenway again next season. I'm guessing negotiations are all but finalized and the tweet was just premature. Let the speculation begin on who the opponent will be.

you mean, like will it be D1 or D3, or who the exact opponent is going to be?
