Maine 2012-2013 Fade to Black

Re: Maine 2012-2013 Fade to Black

Brian, if your view is Maine doesn't have the horses and Whitehead's making a lot out of a little, can you explain why Gustav Nyquist never played in an NCAA tournament game? Why a team with he, House, Abbott, Flynn, O'Neill, Diamond and Dimmen finished 5th and got their doors blown off in the quarters?

Didnt have the horses my azz

Yah Mrs. Whitehead, we dont blame poor Timmay. How can he be to blame for doing absolutely nothing with all the talent laid in his lap....geeeez. Poor Timmay. sniff, sniff

Re: Maine 2012-2013 Fade to Black

So I've noticed that there's this new trend of folks posting that they're tired of complaints about the Whitehead regime. Invariably, they pose the question: What would it take to satisfy you? The implication being that almost nothing would satisfy the critics.

So now it's my turn to say that I'm tired of seeing questions about what it would take to satisfy the critics.

Outside of winning the lottery, nobody ever gets anywhere without setting goals, developing plans to reach those goals, and holding themselves accountable to that plan/goal.

It's the responsibility of the person running an organization to set goals for that organization. If you don't set goals, you have no grounds on which to criticize the goals that others set. When was the last time that you read an interview or listened to a coach's show and heard anything about goals? What does Whitehead think a given team should be capable of accomplishing? Forget what would satisfy me . . . what would satisfy him? Keeping his job, obviously, but is there anything else?

I can deal with disappointment. But I have no tolerance for disappointments when there was never any goal to begin with. Drifting from problem A to disappointment B, maybe pausing to put a positive spin on small success C . . . that's not leadership, and it's no recipe for success. It's a perfect recipe for what's become of this program, though.

Am I off base? Has Whitehead ever set public goals by which he might actually be held accountable . . . and I just missed it?

I vaguely remember hearing talk about goals and legitimate expectations . . . 10 years ago. Today, I'm not sure Whitehead has any goal other than staying employed.

I know how much you all hate Whitehead and that many of you would be willing to sacrifice a trip to the TD Garden to get rid of him. I am completely at odds with anyone who thinks that way. This group of Freshmen that he motivated to comprise 4 of our top 6 scorers at the end of the season speaks volumes. I think there are certainly issues, but Whitehead always seems to make the most out of the least every season.

I know for a fact that Anthoine, Rutt, Diamond, Nemec, Cornell, Shore, Hutton, Lomberg aren't going to roll over and die tonight...and I am expecting beyond stellar goaltending from Ouellette. Not only do I hope they win the next 2 games this season, I hope Whitehead is around long enough to get this new group to the tournament and bring glory back to Orono. SMH at the *****y whiny fans Maine has in general. You know when your wifes on the rag and its just painful to deal with all the negativity, whining, and real houswives? Thats what this thread is. Go Black Bears

So 11 wins is the most Whitehead could make out of this sorry bunch? That's it, that's the most? Bet Corkum could've done more. Hell, he probably is the one that got this program turned around in the first place.

And who's responsible for having "the least" every season for him to make something out of? Sheesh, you apologists are pathetic.

Re: Maine 2012-2013 Fade to Black

They don't leave to get away from whitehead. I think he does seem to make these players pretty desirable if so many are leaving he can't be hurting their reputation much.

I'm sure there are exceptions, but basically players leave for one reason. They don't think the program has anything more to offer them. I don't know how you can believe that the state of the program has no bearing on that decision.

It's all about outside options. The better off the program, the higher the bar -- the better the outside option has to be to convince the player to leave. Likewise, the worse off the program is, the lower the bar is. A player's outside option might not be that great, and the player still might think it's better than returning.

Steve Abbott is in the house. Does he wait until the third period is over?

Its not fair to make Tim responsible for doing his job. Please, just stop, have some feelings.

Hey, I have feelings. I feel the university should hire someone, and the first thing that person should do is go into the Alfond, collect all the memorabilia and historical artifacts, put them in a big closet for safekeeping, and lock the door.

Devin Shore wasn't born when Maine went 42-1-2. He wasn't born when Paul Kariya played his last game for Maine.

Stop pretending there's some continuity. There isn't. Not anymore. There's nothing left to continue. It's gone.

Whoever steps in is going to have to build it from the ground up.

That's what I feel.

Did I do it wrong? :p

Apparently, Joey Diamond feels TIMMAY's pre-game ramblings sounded as delusional as I did, as he's apparently chosen not to hear them.
