Re: Maine 2012-13 Part 3D: Still digging
Priceless, you're up there this weekend. You were at the game last night, correct?.... Let's have the Priceless Rink Report. What is the local on TW? Was Abbott one of the 3700 at the game? Anyone ask him any real questions? We're dyin' herrrre.................
Abbott was there, he is at most home Hockey games. It was pretty easy to see the student balcony wasn't full, haven't seen that when school has been in session that I can remember
The student section was on the side in my day so it was always hard to tell attendance because when classes weren't in session the ticket office put those tickets up for sale. I was sitting in my perch up behind BB so I didn't see the near side of the student section, but sec KK had all of 12 students and JJ had 48. It looked like the other sections were full. I joked before the game that it must be a late-arriving crowd, but it actually was. BB and CC were maybe half full and DD was almost empty at puck drop, but filled in during the first period. The lower bowl was about 60% full and the upper sections ended up being 75% full. Attendance was right around 3500 so there didn't turn out to be a bunch of no-shows. I expect there will be tonight as I heard quite a few people say they were staying home to watch the Bruins. No one I've talked to this weekend has any insight on the Ted Alfond connection, but a couple of people believe it is real - they are as mystified as everyone else is as to the reason. I did hear from a couple other alumni that they want TW out at the end of the year, including one who as recently as 2009 was on record supporting him. I did see another teammate from the 1993 team in the house again and TW does still have some support among alums.
I was hanging out in the SW center after the game and Gravelhead and crew came up the stairs. He walks over to me and says, "It looks cold out there!" First of all, cold is a feeling, not an appearance. Second, it's Orono in January..you were expecting the tropics? Then he looked into the A.L.F and saw the spread and says, "That looks good, think I'll go in!" to which I raised my eyebrow and he said, "Maybe not...I probably wouldn't be welcome with that group," to which I smiled and nodded. On the other hand, if it would get him off Joey's case, feel free...is what I wanted to say...
Stu Higgins was late coming onto the ice for the 3rd period and got stitches after the game for an injury to his hand. No word yet on the status of BOC and Pryor who were both out last night. Was very interesting to see Norman on the point in the OT PP. The winless streak at Alfond has reached 10 games and this is now the latest in the season before a home win was recorded (82-83 won it's only D-I game of the season at home vs Dartmouth on January 15). Larry said Maine had 25 Grade A chances last night which seems awfully high.
Did anyone see the sign that was held up in section N last night? The person held it up whenever a penalty was called on Maine, so I assume it was aimed at the refs but I couldn't make it out.
