That was a good maine team, Susi, peter Gavett, Bruce Stinson, Tony Hamlin, Paul Bessey but the Dr was in another world.

Was Warner on that team or was that a later year. Talk about smooooooth, geesch.

Bob Warner was a Freshman when Peter was a Senior as I recall. What about Wally Russell? He was a fan favorite.

I forgot about him. URI had some NBA players on their team in that time frame also. I hung around their all the time as a kid, watched a ton of BBall.

I'll never forget Warner. At 6-7 he was a physical specimen and dominated inside.

He was a year later. Warner was a Freshman in the '72-'73 season I believe. Teammates like Hamlin, Jackie Morrison, Tom Burns, Steve Conley, Mike Poplawsky, Frank (I can dribble all day) Annunziata, then a year later little brother Steve Gavett and Bruce Gerrity among others. A real bunch of bayzo's. They'd travel to Mass, NY, CT occasionally and the fans would just look... not real diverse. And Skip would yell constantly in his high pitched shriek..."Bobbeeeeeeee! No Bobbeeeeeee!"

All in The Pit and it was pretty intimidating, even to better teams. Never missed a game. Ever. Of course at the time there was no Hockey................. Now we are slowly re-approaching that. Thanks Timmy.

...back to last thread for a second, and who recruited Nyquist~
Standbrook? Whitehead? Nope - it was Kerluke.

There was a former Maine player in Sweden who saw Nyquist play and alerted Maine. I can't remember who it was. Someone else here may know.

Re: Maine 2012-13 Part 3D: Still digging

are you implying that credit should go to the guy that saw Gus play? If you aren't and you're just providing more info, kudos.

let's say that you are, for the sake of the argument, then I think we all know that a lot of factors play into identifying talent then bringing that talent to Orono. Kerluke, if he was the head recruiter, deserves the lions share of the credit for selling the school.

as I wrote in the last thread, Standbrook mentioned, joyfully, that a superstar from Sweden would be coming to Maine in the near future. I would have to believe that Grant had something to do with the recruiting of the Swede.

Re: Maine 2012-13 Part 3D: Still digging

I already told you several threads ago. Shawn and Grant flew over to visit Mama and Papa Nyquist when little baby G was born and offered him a scholarship before he even left the hospital. Grant has an eye for talent and knew he liked what he saw as soon as the ultrasound came across his desk. Kerluke, Corkum and Whitehead had nothing to do with it.

Re: Maine 2012-13 Part 3D: Still digging

We can dream...

Its a mans job Tim and we have several men in the wings salivating to do the job right. ;) Men with NHL experience, men with winning coaching experience even. Men with connections to known winners and teachers of the game....the way its supposed to be played, not that wimpy style you employ.

Don't read more in to what I say. I am only reporting info. I agree with you, Maine had to sell their program and they deserve the credit. The former Maine player was only instrumental in enabling the communication between player and school to take place.

I've read that in two obscure European Hockey periodicals. Shawn also had a fund raiser while they were there featuring the Swedish Bikini Team. Paid for half of Nyquist's scholarship money.

On a serious note, he did offer Sharon Kariya $50,000 to have another child, with a $50,000 bonus if it was a boy. :D
