Re: Maine 2012-13 Part 3D: Still digging

Wally, I'll have what you're drinking..!

:p
Game on NESN...guess they can't flip it like the do in the NFL....So, will be interesting to see what PP looks like this week....All Smurf again ( Norman and Shemansky), 4th liner (Cerratani)...? Tim's obsession wiuth LEFT Hand shot is bordering on the insane. Overall looks like Pryor and O'Connor are still out...concussions are nothing to joke about , even here...no healthy d left on the bench....Will they actually forecheck or pull back, stand still and have the Eagles fly by.....will all the forwards leave defensive zone, as soon as Maine gets possesion, leaving no way to get the puck our other than skating it..... If BC has video of one game, they have the entire playbook...... Team will play hard, but coaching will betray them....yet again......and again and again...ad nauseum

“You can’t focus on the standings, you’ve got to focus on the process,” said Maine coach Tim Whitehead. “Every day, we try to get better.”

Senior defenseman and tri-captain Mark Nemec said it’s important to hold players accountable for their play “but, at the same time, you’ve got to have fun. Everybody here plays hockey because they love the game.

“When you start losing, you can get away from that,” added Nemec.

This is not "house hockey" (even tho they are playing like it is), this is Div I NCAA. You play to win. When you are losing, practice is not supposed to be fun.

Last night, before my game, I watched a group of Bantams practice. On the back of their practice jerseys a bunch of them had this phrase: Championships are won in Practice. Something I think Tim might be missing...

NCAA Div1 hockey is a job and huge commitment where you sacrifice yourself personally and physically. I would think having the mindset of enjoying what you do is rewarding and reaps benefits. Maybe this is good advise as the team may be more creative and hold the sticks less tight, and not have tunnel vision. I would think that you would have to be more relaxed to play the game of hockey by sheer enjoyment of the game to give you the extra incentive to move forward. In any event it sure beats sitting on the couch being a grumpy crusty old man.

"Focus on the process"?!?!?!?!?.........TIMMAY has become the Jim Jones of UM Hockey. He's leading the players, administrators, and the few fans that still stand behind him to the "promised land". The rest of us know how this ends.........it's so pathetic that it makes me want to puke.

If you have ever seen a practice...there is NO passion or effort..They scramble aroundf , do some stickhandling,...Sprints fugetaboutit....Battle drills, no freaking way,,,coaches getting p'oed...not on your life....Sweat missing...constant stoppages so they can "review" plenty...gets so bad, Cornell and Diamond actually dropped the mitts and went at it before the holidays...Diamond ended up with stitches...just to get some emotion and passion....tim is as fiery as a snowball in the arctic.....watch the body language between corks and tim....no alignment..no agreement.... Tim is like a yougurt in your fridge...well past "best before date" and yet we still are expected to enjoy it....

How can they have fun when TIMMAY wants them to "focus on the process". Jeezus H.

TIMMAY should have been a nuclear physicist.............

Re: Maine 2012-13 Part 3D: Still digging

as wally said, purcell was not drafted... but that does lead to a good trivia question.. who were maine's most recent first round draft picks?
i honestly cannot think of ANY since Timmy took over...without looking, maybe Barrett Heisten, or Janik? (although they should not really count)

janik was a second rounder... left after 00-01, and heisten was a first and left after 99-00

i cant think of any either

Re: Maine 2012-13 Part 3D: Still digging

I'm not sure the powers that be see this board or understand the frustration by all (fans, parents and team) or the suggestions and the compelling and urgent need for change. I may just print some of it off and send it in to the AD and President.
Sadly, Tim's Ivy League education is failing him. His is so caught up in "the process", he doesn't see that they aren't working. How does he not see (in his endless hours of tape review) that in 5 pps last week they got off 3 shots. And you keep the same guys out there? Are you kidding me...the goalies laugh at Normans shot in practice.
Why is Nemec ever on PP? The put Cornell out there he gets shots on net, even some points and bang, you're off! No sense whatsoever! You bench a kid for weeks and then pout him back in on first line PP?
I think the freshman class should be kept away from the press-they are a GREAT group of kids with a lot of talent. Don't beat up on Shore here...he's trying to stay positive and strong for the good of the team. They came to Maine because of the history and the fans...they saw last years games...they don't want to lose, none of them do BUT they're so being beaten down by Tim's "processes", too much film review and too much talk on the ice during practice. They want to skate, work hard, hit, shoot, yes...as someone said earlier like they did in HS. Someone told me their son told them his practices were tougher in HS! Sad but true. It's way past time Mr. Abbott

The players all laugh about Whitehead. Of course they're not going tell Priceless since they're not friends with him, but behind closed doors, they all laugh about Whitehead, will tell people they're close to he's not a good coach. Almost all the players came to Maine because of the history and the tradition, not to play for Tim.

Re: Maine 2012-13 Part 3D: Still digging

Give us the link!

Since we're doing trivia, this one always cracks me up: Lemieux scored five goals in a game, which is not a record, but he scored them in the five possible ways. And I'm not talking forehand, backhand, over the shoulder... 1) Even strength....[/QUOTE

While at work I was listening to a Bruins game on the radio against the Leafs when Darryl Sittler scored 6 goals and 5 assists. I'm not a Bruins fan and I don't remember the names of the guys broadcasting but they were going out of their minds. I believe it's a record that still stands today. I nearly got fired by my boss who was a Bruins fan.

C'mon, he's got a 2-0 lead. It's a lock that he puts them in a defensive shell.
