Re: Maine 2011 Offseason #2: Wondering If We'll Outdraw Women's Hoops This Year

Moving a guy from forward to D never seems to work out, even if it's just for a couple of minutes per game on the PP,let alone for an entire game or (God forbid) a season.

I'm already planning to see 8-10 road games, and I'll be living and dying with Maine,as always...But I see no reason to expect anything different this year.

It pains me to even think it,but probably Maine would be better off in the long run if they have a terrible year.Tim is slowly sucking out whatever lingering vitality remains in the program. The sooner it gets a new start, the better.

Thats the SAD PART that to rid Maine of Whitehead they have to stink up the ice...rooting hard for the Team/Players and pains me to see the direction this Program has gone and still headed in...it's a hard play, but change is NEEDED,it will be debated by both sides...fans for TW and fans not for TW...it will come down to Steve Abbott to make that call...and it won't be a easy decision.

I think that it would be a no brainer decision and a money saver for the university. I would suspect that there are excellent coaches out there that would coach UMaine for 25% less than Tim's existing salary. I think Tim outpriced himself out of a job...........

You are right that there are several young guns chopping at the bit to get a chance to lead their own Team/Program and you'd be surprise that their are some well established Veteran Coaches that see a great opportunity to right the Maine Hockey Program...I would not be surprised if something happens one way or another after the 2011-12 season is completed. I still believe that UMaine Hockey will be back under the right person.

I have no love for Tim but lets see what happens this season, the team deserves that whether or not you think Tim does..... I'm excited to see them play Sunday, hope springs eternal:D

Re: Maine 2011 Offseason #2: Wondering If We'll Outdraw Women's Hoops This Year

So who does Timmy have on the #1 and #2 power play this year? I do not think we have anybody tall enough to screen the goalies...........

"tall enough to screen the goalies on the PP"
Tim plays 3 or 4 men on the puck on the PP... 3 in the corners and 4, if the puck is on the halfboards (all three forwards, plus that side's Dman) ain't nobody out front

BUT, the last guy he used out front on the PP was Shemansky at the beginning of his freshman season... and he could not have screened Lerg (alhough he was VERY effective tipping in Abbott's shots)

Sounds like a one dimentional powerplay............and easy to defend against by keeping the puck to the outside, or just cover Abbott. Hopefully we will see more creativity from this year's squad.

At the end of the season other teams were already keying in on the one time point shots.........which let to quite a few short handed goals...........Hoping we can bang some home close in this year

Here,'s a wacky idea. put Nemec down low on PP. Biggest body on the ice, would tie folks up, don't need to be great skater.....would with Dekastroza two years ago. Iknw nuts, but not worse than shenanski....

Nemec is big, but you need hands and grit. Remember when they tried Danis-Pepin? Diamond makes the most sense on the first unit, and Shemansky (if he can regain his touch) on the second. Neither are big, but neither was Ingraham! Sometimes I can with hands who can find space and get lost is better.

Power play under performed last year after being the best power play in the country the year before! They have a formula that has worked, but need to execute!

Here are some pictures from today's practice at Alfond........lots of people attending the football game (Maine 31 #5 Delaware 17!!!) were checking things out.

With all the evidence of the past few years to consider, and if I'm the Maine AD,Tim pretty-much needs to keep his team in the top 5 most of the coming season, then win an NC to keep his job.Squeaking into the NCAAs and being eliminated short of making the FF is definitely grounds for dismissal,IMO.Maine just can't settle for getting a bid as a lower seed every five years or so,if that even can happen anymore...Not if they want to recruit, anyway.

(On the bright side:HUGE win for Maine football today.Racked up 477 yards vs. #5 Delaware..?Impressive,especially considering their youth.Baseball and football are eclipsing hockey right now,at least in terms of winning.)

Diamond is the right type in front of the net...he's tough and he has the hands to knock in any deflections/rebounds...need a big season from him in the scoring department...and a few less penalty's...which may be hard to do with his reputation...some warrantied and some for sure not. Lets hope a year wiser on the part of #39 and the Officials from Hockey East.

Re: Maine 2011 Offseason #2: Wondering If We'll Outdraw Women's Hoops This Year

Checked out the UNH site and came across that they thought that UNB had a weak team,I for one am not buying into that...I would think that the larger ice surface may have been some of a factor for UNB...I look for them to play a tough game at Orono on the smaller ice surface and try to pound Maine as much as possible (IF the Officials call it that way).

I think they looked gassed last time they played Maine so you are probably correct the big sheet hurt them. Playing 2 nights in a row isn't going to help either. The only thing I want to see today is Maine's goaltending

Re: Maine 2011 Offseason #2: Wondering If We'll Outdraw Women's Hoops This Year

Been out of the loop on the thread this summer. Getting ready for the game tonight. I like to listen to the play by play on the radio while watching the game.
Does anyone know what radio station I need to tune into? Is it the same station as last year? Thanks and Go Blue!!

I hope that they call this one much closer than they called it last season... that was a disaster in terms of injuries and the meaningfulness of the game.

They let the boys kill each other, but when UND came to town for a couple games that mattered, they called UND for everything that was allowed in the UNB game.... just sayin'

also... has anyone else ever been as happy about a St. Francis Xavier win as the one last night against Scarlet Satan... (the OTHER John Parker)

I checked out the box score from the UNH UNB game last night..i saw a lot of slashing penalties and one of there defenseman got ejected for face masking. Maine can't afford to get injuries for a meaningless game..hopefully #39 stays discipline.
