LSSU Lakers 2016 off-season thread

Re: LSSU Lakers 2016 off-season thread

It is going to be hot in Arizona and wonder how many players from the north will really want to go to school there.

I don't think ASU will have any problem recruiting players. The really hot weather occurs in the Summer when school is out anyway (unless attending a Summer session).

This is also true at UAH. The big concern is always land training before captain's practices begin.

How far out did Roque recruit ? I can't remember if he went further than one season .

For the most part he went one season out, which means he relied heavily on late bloomers and guys that other programs overlooked. There were some exceptions. Kellan Lain was recruited a couple of seasons out. Kelin Ainsworth and Tyler Marble committed around three seasons out I think, although in their cases there were some prior connections to the program. I think there were may have been a couple of others as well although I don't remember who. He did try to recruit Owen Headrick although he wasn't able to get a commitment from him while still coach.

Best of luck to Ned Zimmer with his future as well. He is leaving huge shoes to fill with all he did for the program.

Found this article in the Sault Star about Owen Headrick: http://www.saultstar.com/2016/06/24/headrick-hoping-to-hear-named-called

Owen probably only had an outside chance at getting drafted. He's been pretty much flying under the radar thus far in his career.

Summer NHL Development Camps are starting to get underway. I haven't been actively checking camps and rosters but did see that incoming recruit Kristofers Bindulis is scheduled to be at the Washington Capitals camp this week.

You see these former lakers making the move to the AHL and NHL and they all played for Roque and you have to ask yourself how did they not become outstanding college players . Was the coaching staff under Roque just not equipped to make them the best at the college level and it took mentoring at the next level to get them to the NHL . I don't recall any of these players tearing up the CCHA .

Some players mature later. You also see plenty of players who tore it up at the college level that never make it out of the ECHL. None of these guys have been a big star at the next level. Trotman & Lain were both pretty decent players at LSSU that left early. Buddy Robinson left 2 years early. Trotman is the only one on a one way NHL deal and has a total of 12 NHL points in 67 games. Nehring never got past the ECHL until the 14-15 season. Were his coaches in Idaho, Arizona & Las Vegas substandard as well? How exactly did Roque's coaching fail them? He got them to the next level, didn't he?

On a basketball note, Devin Daly has signed to play pro ball in Europe (for a team from Denmark).
