LSSU Lakers 2016-17

The self appointed "expert" of this thread and all things good ship Laker is quick to point the finger of blame at the players, in this case Owen Headrick, and turns a blind eye to the head coach and what issues might be there or have caused the player to leave.

Methinks "Bill" is very much the insiders insider, man.

The Erie Otters won their 11th straight game tonite over the London Knights. That makes them 11-0 since the addition of the smooth skating former LSSU Laker from Garden River, Ontario, Owen Headrick.

I've never seen Bill appoint himself the expert. Please provide a link to that place.

A good article from Randy Russon of http://www.hockeynewsnorth.com and http://www.saultthisweek.com on Atte Tolvanen, the goaltender from Northern Michigan University who has 5 straight shutouts. Jeremiah Luedtke of Anchorage was the last player to score on Tolvanen on January 20th.

This has become the story of the civilized hockey world. Sophomore goaltender Atte Tolvanen made a career-high 48 saves and tied a Division 1, National Collegiate Athletic Association record with his fifth straight shutout as the surging Northern Michigan Wildcats moved into possession of a Western Collegiate Hockey Association playoff spot.

Tolvanen has now gone 335 minutes and 39 seconds without allowing a goal and has made a remarkable 207 saves in succession during that span.

The latest Tolvanen shutout — and Northern Michigan victory — was a 2-0 blanking of the visiting Alaska-Fairbanks Nanooks on Saturday night.

Junior forward Robbie Payne, formerly of the Soo Eagles of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League, had both goals as Northern Michigan won its sixth straight game to move into a sixth-place tie with the Lake Superior State Lakers in the 10-team WCHA.

Payne has team-leading totals of 12 goals, 13 assists, 25 points.

With his fifth shutout in a row, Tolvanen tied the mark set by Blaine Lacher, who established the feat back in 1994 while tending twine for Lake Superior State. Lacher still holds the longest scoreless streak in Division 1, NCAA history with 375 minutes, 1 second.

Ringy Dingy!

Actually it's 215 consecutive saves.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2016-17

Blaine Lacher will still hold the scoreless streak of 375:01 as Minnesota State scored on Tolvanen early in the 1st period tonight.

Impressive run by Tolvanen. Unfortunately, some might say he got his scoreless streak because the WCHA is a weak watered down league.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2016-17

Defensive woes continues. Alaska gets shutout both games last weekend and the Lakers allow the Nanooks score 4 tonight. Ugh! Also too many penalties as well.

Interesting to see Damon put Kossoff in late in the game. I'm guessing he will start tomorrow's game.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2016-17

That one was rough for sure. This is beginning to have the feeling that the '13-'14 season had where the wheels came off at the end and they missed the postseason on a tiebreaker.

On the upside, I really enjoy the play-by-play guy for Alaska.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2016-17

I was surprised your goalie got pulled, I didn't think he played badly. His defense hung him out to dry too much.

Nice fracas in the handshake line. Word was somebody from LSSU took a shot at Justin Woods...hope any suspensions are minimal for both sides.

Just watched WCHA TV On-Demand (which btw is a POS for watching replays). The fracas was started by us. :(
Erickson accosted an LSSU player skating toward their rink exit, which started the whole thing. Go to 02:31:42

While the good ship Laker is floundering once again in a really bad league, and get worse instead of better under the guidance of Damon Whitten, the Erie Otters are a perfect 12-0 since the addition of former Laker standout defenseman Owen Headrick, winning again last night. I'm told the smooth skating d-man is turning more heads and scouts are a buzz with his potential. Great job Owen.

Riiight....any team in the WCHA would handily beat the kiddies that make up the Erie Otters.....you have some pull randy, why don't you try and organize a pre season match up between an OHL and WCHA team.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2016-17

Looks like we'll be shorthanded tonight. Three guys (McKay, Torrel, Roll) with game misconducts and only two extra guys on the trip.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2016-17

There was an incident on the faceoff with 49 seconds left in the game where Nellis was injured while they were lining up for the face-off. #28 of Alaska (Hope) is the one who was lined up with Nellis. The video pans to the crowd, while they were getting set for the face-off, so I could not see what happened between the 2 players. When the video zoomed back to the players, Nellis was laying on the ice favoring his leg.

Nellis was being helped off the ice during the handshakes and postgame scrum. You can see him in the background not being able to put much weight on his leg.

Near as I could tell he just fell down. It was kind of a weird sequence. Some people thought Hope might have slashed him but I think if he did the Laker bench would have been up in arms since it was right in front of them.

Hope doesn't seem like that kind of player either but I thought the same thing as you. Face off was right in front of LSSU bench and they would have seen it and I'm sure would have been going crazy had Hope done something like that.

I have always enjoyed listening to Bruce Cech as well.

Bruce is terrific. Michigan guy (Saginaw), lots of experience and tons of passion for the game. Had to do some late fundraising just before the start of the season just to pay the expenses to travel for the games.
