LSSU Lakers 2015 off-season thread

Scoring doesn't seem to be his strong suit .
Team captain, plays against other teams top players, plays a lot on the penalty kill. Sure we need more scoring but you need good defensive forwards as well. If the coaches didn't think he could make the team better, they wouldn't have recruited him.

The Lakers best players on offence also logged a lot of Pk time in the recent past. That may be changing with some of these kids coming in and that could bode well for the offence. I hope.

Muskegon's 4th and 5th Round pick in this year's USHL draft are here. Luke Morgan and Keegan Miller.

Red answers right back as Luke Morgan gets to the dirty area and back hands the puck past the goalie

The line of Liam Walsh -Matt Gosiewski - Chase Ellingson has been buzzing this whole game. Also FA Luke Morgan and Matt Filipe playing well

It appears Luke Morgan is at Cedar Rapids tryouts this weekend. Was a draft pick of Muskegon in this yr's draft. Sounds like he is having a good camp. Good to hear from a fan's perspective about a future Laker...

Hey those are my Tweets!!!!

Luke did look good. He plays with a high motor, electric on the forecheck, and has above average vision.

I think he will be a borderline kid to make the team this year, but then again I am not the coaching staff.

Yes they are! We appreciate the updates and info of the tryout camps. The Lakers have not recruited a whole lot over the years out of the USHL but that seems to be changing with the new coaching staff. Nice to see.

How old is he?

Yes it is nice to see. When Bill Selman and then Frank Anzalone were coaching the Lakers back in the 80s, they recruited the USHL pretty well. That continued through the Jeff Jackson years, but like you said, since then they haven't done much recruiting in the USHL.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2015 off-season thread

I think I recall after Borek landed at New Hampshire how bad their power play was working and Borek was the power play coach. Not sure if Providence made a good move there .

So their PP has been bad for 13 years?? Scott Borek is a highly respected assistant and considered a pretty good recruiter.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2015 off-season thread

To bad he left his talent behind when he came to the Lakers .

...and Frank left his behind the second time...and Roque left his behind...and Whitten had a Frank 2.0 like first season...Borek actually had a winning record two of his five seasons. But just like any other time in the Soo...fire the coach and it will get better. Except they've fired three, and it hasn't gotten any better. Four coaches. 19 years. The more it changes. The more it stays the same. Maybe it's more than just the name on the door of the coach's office. Hmmmmmm.....

My understanding is that Morgan is a pretty good playmaker. How did he look in that respect, given that you haven't had a lot of chances to see him play.
