LSSU Lakers 2015-16: The 50th season

Re: LSSU Lakers 2015-16: The 50th season

I sound like a broken record here but Luke Morgan found the back of the net once again last night.

His 4 goals in 5 games this year has already equaled his goal total from his season in U18 last year according to eliteprospects.com

He is supposed to be more of a play maker than scorer, but if he turns into a scorer as well, so much the better.

Did anyone else notice Bill Crawford calling North Dakota the Fighting Sioux thru the whole game?
They haven't selected a new name for their teams yet, so I guess for most people it's easier to stick with the old one until they come up with a new one.

I caught that too. Besides the familarity of Sioux, it's quicker to say than North Dakota, which I would imagine would be a burden to keep saying in the midst of fast action play.

I noticed that, but at the same time the North Dakota fans still use the Sioux name in a lot of their cheers, so it doesn't really matter.

The Lakers ran into a hot goaltender today and probably deserved a better fate. Nice to get Torrel get his first goal. All goals this weekend were scored by freshman which is encouraging

I have a feeling Kossoff will get a start next weekend, probably Saturday.

Lakers always run into a hot goal tender. What did Frank Anzalone say on his second time back around ? This team makes every goal tender look great. After 18 years of hoping if we just give the players some time, they can win. Let's have the players prove they can win by winning and not look for excuses to why they are not winning. I know it is early in the season but the excuse that they ran up against a hot goalie has worn it's welcome out.

I know what your saying and to a point I agree with you but.

I watched both games and the Lakers played very well both games. They seem to have the system down fairly well and their puck movement was excellent at times even on the power play creating chances. I believe this team is going to find the back of the net. The team speed is way up from seasons past. They did play two pretty good teams.

The thing that hurt the Lakers the most this weekend was the refs. They made a lot of either horrible or nonsensical tiki tack calls disrupting the flow of the game for both teams the first three games that I know for sure. Walking around old port we heard people talking about all the penalties being called the night before on Friday night. I'm sure all four teams were not impressed with the zebras.

I was just thinking that Kossoff might get a start next weekend. And as Perky said, we had some whistle happy refs this weekend.

Successful weekend for the Lakers at the Ice Breaker Tournament, despite the results..

It certainly will take time for Damon to fix the train wreck Jim Roque left behind. The team definitely looks better than this point last season.

It was only a few years ago that most of us were wishing the Lakers made a more serious recruiting effort in the BCHL and USHL. Now, almost half the team is from those two leagues; of course the coaches continue to recruit other leagues as well. On the other end of the recruiting spectrum, this is the first season since 1983-84 that we don't have a player from the SJHL on the roster.

Bill Crawford had a great Laker Hockey Show last night on on ESPN 1400 Radio. If you missed the show you can listen to the podcast as Bill talked with assistant coach Doug Holewa and head coach Damon Whitten. http://lakers.sovcomm.net/

Tonite Randy Russon's Hockey North Show will also be talking all things Lakers and hockey from 5-6 on ESPN 1400 Radio and will be talking to freshman defenceman Aiden Wright http://stream.1400espn.net/ You can also catch his articles on the Lakers at www.saultthisweek.com or www.hockeynewsnorth.com.

Your Laker coverage continues Wednesday morning on ESPN 1400 Radio http://stream.1400espn.net/, where you can hear an exciting new show, Laker Talk, with Bill Crawford and Damon Whitten, at 8:30, where they talk about the past weekend's games, and preview this week's games.

This weekend is Great Lake State Weekend, and the Voice of the Lakers, Bill Crawford, will have the calls of the game on the Official home for Laker Athletics, Yes FM www.yesfm.net. Friday's game is at Northern and Saturday is at LSSU. There are lots of events throughout the weekend and hope to see a lot of Laker fans there. http://www.lssu.edu/glsw/

David "The Professor" Watson, will be talking about Friday's game and have guests on from LSSU on Coaches Corner, heard Saturday morning from 11-12, on Radio Soo. http://www.1230wsoo.com/

We have one kid from Weyborn on the roster.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2015-16: The 50th season

Yeah he's been added I don't know when but it wasn't that long ago.
Also I see he's listed as a redshirt so even though he's now on the roster it doesn't look like he will play before next season (unless we have a ton of injuries at forward). I remember that he played in the blue-gold game. Did you see that game, and if so, how did he look?

Re: LSSU Lakers 2015-16: The 50th season

I did watch the stream of that game, and he did play in it. Tough to evaluate from the video stream though, so I can't really say how he played.
