LSSU Lakers 2015-16: The 50th season

Re: LSSU Lakers 2015-16: The 50th season

We say the same thing every year . These guys are 20,21 years old and I am to believe after 17 years of playing hockey they need to be schooled on how to shoot pucks into the net. The whole purpose of the game since these guys first started playing has been to shoot pucks into the net. When the puck is brought up the ice, the final resting place you want to see of that puck is in the net. A lot of these guys have been playing hockey since they have been 4-5 years old and as it was than it is now, get the puck in the net and they don't need to be taught that after 15 years of being told that. Until I actually see offense from this team, I am just going to keep hoping that someone on the team now or coming to play later have that ability to put the puck in the net. They don't need to be taught to put the puck in the net. They have known this for years.

It was an exhibition game. I am sure the all the Mankato fans have given up since they lost to Alberta today:rolleyes:.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2015-16: The 50th season

I am certainly glad these next six games coming up are non-conference. This team needs time to gel and work on special teams. I agree with everyone that Gage Torrel and Owen Headrick look really good so far. I feel bad for Kossoff as it was his first game and he gave up a bad goal in overtime. I'm hoping Damon will give him at least two starts in these six NC games coming up to prove and redeem himself.

It's not because they lost . It is a 20 year old story on how they lost. Six power plays and no goals . Almost 30 shots and one goal. You can put a pitcher in with a 100 mph fastball and if he can't get it over the plate, doesn't do the team a bit of good. You can give a team six power plays and if they can't score on any of them, they might as well be that pitcher with a 100 mph fastball.

We have 8 new forwards and the coaches have had very little time to work with them. It is a pretty big jump from Juniors to Div 1 hockey, talent and speed wise. Give it some time.

Bill, you hit it on the head. Talent and speed . These players have hundreds of games under their belts by this time in their lives and they know the game inside out. it is not lack of knowledge or coaching that hurts players at the ages these guys are. It is the talent and speed levels they are at that determines wins and loses .

I think Damon and the assistant coaches are making serious efforts to upgrade the Lakers in both areas, but it's not going to happen instantaneously.

It will take time. It was not until Mel's 4th year at Tech, that they finished in the upper part of the standings. They outplayed a lot of team's in Mel's 3rd year, but struggled to put pucks in the net, even with some good talent.

False statement. Last week's podcast wasn't posted and the same with this week. I'm guessing they aren't posting them online this year. A major bummer since I'm at work during the show and can't listen to them.

Thanks Paul!

During the game Sunday, Bill said they plan to podcast them. He said the 1st one was not. I was hoping the one from last night would have been up by now.

Bill plans to interview Damon every Wednesday at 8 ET on 1400.

I thought Bill said 8:30am starting tomorrow. I will be on the road to Portland at that time but I plan on catching them after that. They should be a interesting 20 minute show considering they will be closer to game day.

If that is the case the. This hand picked team by Damon says what about his coaching or his scouting abilities? Let's give everyone a trophy for their efforts cuz really no one is at fault. Excuses excuses excuses... We lost and no one should be to blame or have their feelings hurt.

True statement. You can find the podcasts of this years Laker Hockey Show, with the Voice of the Lakers, Bill Crawford at this site http://lakers.sovcomm.net/

Starting today, Bill is going to be interviewing head coach Damon Whitten every Wednesday morning on radio station ESPN 1400. This will be a weekly feature that previews the next week game, in a professional manner. For those out of town you can listen at http://stream.1400espn.net/

For those that missed the Hockey North Show, with Randy Russon, there will be a recap of his interview with LSSU head coach, Damon Whitten, on www.hockeynewsnorth.com.

Damon is very high on a couple players, including Soo Ontario's Owen Headrick, who I thought was the best player on the ice, in the games I saw over the weekend. Don't let me tell you, hear it from Damon himself http://www.saultthisweek.com/2015/10/06/lssu-lakers-coach-is-high-on-owen-headrick
