LSSU Lakers 2014-15

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014-15

It seems the stands were empty at the game last night. Northern seems to be having a hard time as well getting people out to games.
Davy,no one is saying start the back-up goalie. People are saying when the game is lost, just give the guy some ice time . What happens if your starter gets injured and times you could of had the back-up in getting some experience , you never gave it to him .

Their attendance has been down and it is spring break. Students will be gone for Lakers this weekend also. Would be nice to get some points so first round would be in Houghton instead of the long trek to Mankato.

Crowds have been down this year. It didn't help that students are on Spring Break.

Ferris hasn't been been playing good hockey since mid January so I'm expecting some points this weekend. Too bad we can't play Bowling Green 1st round as they haven't been playing very well as of late.

Any points will give us a good chace of finishing ahead of UAH which has a tough series at BG. Agree that BG hasn't been playing that great recently, but they'll be looking to finish strong heading into the playoffs and will be at home. I'd like to see us get a split at a minimum. The key, as usual, will be whether we can score some goals. One a game (or less) probably won't cut it.

I honestly have no idea about the UAH-BG series. They're on the PWR bubble, so they're definitely clenched pretty tight about trying to be the third team in the league into the playoffs. Meanwhile, UAH did pretty well in the Soo while being banged up and under the weather (the flu hit us like it's hit a lot of teams), and then we've not finished any of our last four games. We had a glimmer of a shot at home ice and a reasonable shot at 6th, but now we're hoping that UAF smokes the Seawolves at least once and that we pick up points in Ohio, but the Falcons won't want to give any up, and the Governors Cup may be all that matters to those two teams.

I'm not sure that it matters too much, because all three schools are simply chum for the sharks that are MSU and MTU, but ... ugh.

Was at the Alumni gathering at the Greyhounds game yesterday and saw Whitten, Metro and Aubry there with a few recruits. So there's even more in the pipeline ....

I think they're mostly looking at younger players at this point, for 2016-17 and beyond. If we see any more additions for next season, it would be someone who the coaches feel is a significant upgrade and too good to pass on. Also, the kids you saw with the coaches may have been "potential" recruits, not actual recruits who have committed to the Lakers already, so they may not yet be in the pipeline.

They seem to be stacking for the coming season with twice as many coming in than what is leaving . Unless some players are leaving as well that we do not know about .

I think there will be a few guys on the team, that don't fit into the system, that might leave next year. There are some guys on the squad that just don't fit into Damon's system. It stinks for those kids obviously but if they aren't going to be better suited for the program than the guys coming in, and help us win, I won't shed a tear to see them go.
I think there are a few guys that have proven that they don't belong in Division I hockey even back when Roque was playing them and they weren't giving us results or were careless on one end of the ice.
If we have 8-10 freshman come in next year and those guys contribute the way that the 8 freshman have played this year, I say good riddance to guys that have been here 2-3 years and still can't figure out the compete level that they need to be at and how to crack the lineup and stay there. If you can't crack the lineup on this team (54th in the Pairwise) then you probably should start looking at Adrian College anyways.
This also isn't to say that I don't like our upper classmen or that they aren't great guys, they just need to figure out and figure it out fast. Also to, Oscar-Meyer, Laker Fanatic, Midge or whatever other screen name you want to go by today that will say that I just hate Roque or that Damon is an idiot for not playing them and not fair to these guys: we have a brighter future with the talent we have coming in and with the system that these guys are learning rather than playing guys that don't fit and can't help us win.
Look at a guy like Pete Spratte for example, barely played his first two seasons and played a lot at a wing or seventh defenseman when he did play before. Now he's cracked the lineup, and a top 6 guy and has played well enough for the coaching staff to keep him in the lineup because he's earned it. Also he came back from injury and worked his butt off to get back in there. Another guy, Austin McKay, hardly played under Roque and is now contributing in this new system because he works hard.

Listen, Eddie ... I have only one screen name. Up until I created this account, I would only troll the board as a guest. That was until someone started taking pot shots at my Twitter account, compelling me to defend myself.

Taking pot shots at your twitter account? You came on here and advertised you account and people told you to buzz off because of the negativity. Nobody said anything until you brought it to the forum.

No, Eddie ... you are wrong. Look back on page 36 at post #708 by LSSULaker889294, and also post #711 by Bill ... that's where my Twitter was first brought up. Then YOU chimed in with post #728 and took pot shots at me. So, my very first post (ever) was #739 in which I stated that I did the @LakeStateHockey Twitter and basically defended myself. So no ... I did not get on here to advertise my Twitter. Geesh ... get your info straight!

I'd hardly call that taking pot shots at you. In post 728, Lakers-88-92-94 basically explained what you were doing on your Twitter account that caused the school to ask Twitter to have you change your name. And among other things, your first post did include an advertisement for your Twitter account.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014-15

So if I'm following this right, Bill is now Al, and Lakers-88-92-94 is Eddie. Does anybody have a cheat sheet so I can keep this stuff straight?

In other news, I don't remember hearing about a non-conference set with Notre Dame next year. An oversight? A "to be determined?" A "we don't want to play because you made us look bad in Florida?"

I believe we don't play Notre Dame next season, but we should play them the season after at the Shillelagh tournament Thanksgiving weekend 2016.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014-15

So who do we play for the non-conference portion of our schedule next season? I think we play in an early Icebreaker tournament in Maine, a holiday tournament at Vermont, a road series at Michigan State, and a home series with Arizona State. Any others?

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014-15

I cannot believe that the Lakers have not offered anything to Mitch Vandenburg of the Soo Eagles. Mitch is same age as Will Gauthier and Chase Gamelin and is a everyday player Mitch has 19goals 20 assists39pts in 43 games. Gauthier 2goals 2assists 4 pts in 37 games, and gamelin has 2goals4assists 6pts in 32 games.Heres a player in Lakers own back yard and the coaching staff has not offered him anything, what is wrong with that picture. They need someone else recruting for them. They could commit to him for 2016 -17 season like they did for Gauthier and Gamelin and get a lot better player. You are not going to win with those 2 local kids in line-up and fans only support teams that win

I remember a few weeks back, there was talk of a non-conference conference series against NMU or Tech in seasons where we played one conference series against one or the other. Not sure if that would start next season or not.

Also, Aubry kind of made it sound as though Arizona State next season may not be a done deal yet. Did anybody else get that inclination?

It's highly likely they are aware of him. I don't live near the Soo and don't get to see the Eagles play, but is he a good enough skater (meaning really good) to play the up-tempo game that Damon wants the Lakers to play? Is he interested in the Lakers? Maybe they've approached him and he prefers to play college hockey elsewhere. He's having a break out year in the NAHL, so he's probably been flying a bit under the radar. He's a 96 birth date so there is still a lot of time for the Lakers or someone else to offer him a scholarship. True, Gauthier and Gamelin aren't doing a lot this season compared to Vanderberg, but they haven't played at this level of competition before this season, whereas Vanderberg has. I agree that at this point of their development, Gauthier and Gamelin are no where close to being able to help the Lakers.

I believe Damon said it would start next season. Davyd83 confirmed it would start next season as well. As for Arizona State, I'm sure we'll still play them, Things probably still have to get finalize though.
