LSSU Lakers 2014-15

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014-15

The best chance for either Megariotis or Davis to play yet this season, aside from injury or illness to Defiel, is if the Lakers can clinch a playoff spot with a win tonight and an Anchorage loss. Maybe even if they clinch a playoff spot by after next Friday's game, Damon might go with a backup goalie in the last game against Ferris. Hard to say even then. It might depend upon whether the results of the last game could determine whether they were to play Mankato or Tech in the playoffs (assuming they do make the playoffs).

Goalie recruit Nick Kossoff got his 6th shutout of the season last night for Keystone. Pretty impressive since he splits playing time with the other Keystone goalie.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014-15

Bill, the game was over in the third period last night. There was no reason not to give the back up some playing time. Other teams last night switched goalies for reasons of their own and why Whitten would say he is hoping to get Megariotis in but declines to everytime the game is pretty much another loss makes me believe he has and never has had any intentions of giving the guy some ice time.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014-15

I am sure the lakers tried their best tonight . Problem is the team has just about zero talent and all you can hope for is they give their best no matter how little it may be and the question is,did they give their all tonight at Northern ? Also it is 5 to nothing in the third period . The Lakers have a backup goalie who has seen next to nothing playing time all season. Was the number two goalie sick or hurt ? If he was not sick or hurt , why the hell don't they give him some ice time. The game was over . It was a shutout and still no back up goalie getting some ice time . COACHING STAFF.SHOW SOME CLASS AND GIVE THE BACK UP SOME ICE TIME.

"CLASS", "INTEGRITY" and "FAIRNESS" DO NOT EXIST IN THEIR VOCABULARY.

you hit it spot on. Damon and aubrey never had or have any intentions of ever playing megariotis. Why would they play roque's recruit when they brought in their own? It was evident from the start that they were going to play defiel the whole season. It was observed by many at practices how aubrey worked with and paid more attention to defiel, leaving the other goalies out to dry.

Megariotis was not there to play last night.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014-15

Whitten himself said in an interview with Crawford that he would like to get the back up goalie some ice time but that every game was important and Defiel was playing well and they needed the wins. Last night there was no win even if Northern had sat their goalie out for the entire third period.

Damon has been evasive (and will continue) in many interviews when questioned by Crawford about giving certain players a chance to play. If every game and point was and is important, Damon should have thought about that the first half of the season and rotate goalies to get more wins. We wouldn't be scrabbling now. We're just lucky Alaska Fairbanks has been postseason banned. Damon will continue to play Defiel win, lose or draw; that's his recruit and that's who he's going to promote. Playing and winning more games other than Defiel in net, would only make his choice and recruit look bad. Aldridge saw the writing on the wall and made a smart exit. As for the other goalies, Damon pretty much threw them under the bus and handicapped their career. Now that's a respectable and fair coach for you. I wonder how he sleeps at night. In fact, I wonder how Peter and Rick sleep at night, too.

I don't think Megariotis was a Roque "recruit" in the normal sense of the word. After OSU recruited him out of the NAHL, he didn't see any action during his one season with the Buckeyes. Brady Hjelle understandably played almost all of the Buckeye games in net that season, and there was another goalie (I don't remember his name) who played in a few games. Megariotis turned out to be their #3 goalie and didn't play at all. He was evidently looking for a change of scenery and fresh start and transferred to LSSU. No doubt Roque and/or his assistants were familiar with Megariotis and decided to give him a chance with the Lakers. But I don't think they recruited him out of Juniors before he decided to go to OSU. The Laker goalie slots were filled up at that time. I don't know how good Megariotis is, but he was only the #3 goalie at OSU and the #3 goalie this season with the Lakers prior to Aldridge leaving. Now he's presumably the #2 guy. The fact that the Lakers had a coaching change this season and a pretty crappy home schedule didn't help his chances at playing. Whitten said that Defiel came to school in the Fall in the best shape of the 4 roster goalies and that's what got him the #1 spot.

Maybe Damon has stuck with Gordie because he feels that he gives the Lakers the best chance to win. Since the Florida Tourney Defiel has a 2.07 Goals Against Avg and a .941 save % in 13 games. You can't blame him if the wins aren't there. The Lakers have scored one goal or less in nine of those 13 games. They won 3 of the 4 when scoring 2 or more.

Don't go injecting facts into the argument! I'm still trying to figure out which previous poster the Weiner is. Truth Squad? Pink Pony? The multiple personality Roque lover?

Whitten did give Aldridge a chance early, and he responded with an .833 save percentage and a goals against near 5. Megariotis couldn't beat him out and the Davis kid that dressed last night was behind him on the depth chart, likely for a good reason.

Yes. I think if they had a game where nothing much was on the line and a playoff spot secured, he might give serious thought to starting Megariotis or even Davis, but that hasn't been the case. They've been battling for that last playoff spot all season long. Aldridge did get a few starts in the first half of the season as Rapids City said, before he decided to go back to Juniors, but his numbers weren't t that great.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014-15

It's safe to say Gordie will start tonight and next Friday's game against Ferris. If we clinch a playoff sport by then, then I could see Megariotis or Davis playing next Saturday to give Gordie rest. If we still haven't clinched a playoff berth by next Saturday, Gordie will start.

Of course Damon would say that. He’s going to say what he wants you to believe. It his way to justify his choice. He has to choose his words carefully. If being “in the best shape” determined who would be in net, then what was/is Damon’s logic when we were/are losing. Most coaches pull their goalies, give them relief and change the mojo. Just like you bench a player after a bad shift.

This is not an argument. This is an open forum. You don’t have to agree/disagree, like/dislike what I post. As far as “Truth Squad” yada.....yada, I’m just The “Weiner” sticking to you. Have a nice day and pleasant tomorrow.:p;):D

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014-15

Big win for the Lakers. If BG can beat Anchorage again later tonight, the Lakers will have clinched a playoff spot. Nice to see Jayson Angus get his first goal.

Lakers really came to play tonight. Terrific effort. Defiel was outstanding, even if a couple think the guy who's never played should have played! Good luck next week.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014-15

Why couldn't the Lakers play like this last night? Big win and great to see Angus get his first goal.

Even if UAA ties, the Lakers will clinch a playoff spot since I believe the Lakers would own the tiebreaker. Could see UAA pull the goalie in overtime to try to win the game if it comes down to that.

But, just like when we had the huge sweep against Bemidji, Anchorage had to spoil the fun. Guess it means another week to decide.

Time to get revenge on Ferris for knocking us out of the playoffs last season and of course sweeping us earlier in the season.

It seems the stands were empty at the game last night. Northern seems to be having a hard time as well getting people out to games.
Davy,no one is saying start the back-up goalie. People are saying when the game is lost, just give the guy some ice time . What happens if your starter gets injured and times you could of had the back-up in getting some experience , you never gave it to him .

It seems they are two similar teams. Both have pretty good goaltending and both have trouble putting the puck in the net.........two 2-1 games coming up?
