LSSU Lakers 2014-15

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014-15

I remember a few weeks back, there was talk of a non-conference conference series against NMU or Tech in seasons where we played one conference series against one or the other. Not sure if that would start next season or not.

Also, Aubry kind of made it sound as though Arizona State next season may not be a done deal yet. Did anybody else get that inclination?
I don't follow the scheduling close enough to know if we play both Tech and Northern 4 times each in conference play next season, but yes there may be a possibility of a non-conference series in there. I must have missed Aubry's comment about ASU so I'm not sure about that.

I believe we play a non-con series against Northern next season. It sounded like they are trying to figure out a date for the ASU series in the Soo, I picked up on that also.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014-15

Jake Hand is on the scoreboard with a goal in the 1st period of Chilliwack's BCHL playoff game tonight. I really like the sounds of this kid.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014-15

Congratulations to Angus, Globke, and McKay for being honored as WCHA Scholar Athletes. Hopefully the attendance won't be too pitiful this weekend with the students being gone on spring break.

You are correct. Here is what the NC schedule looks like currently for next season and 2016-17....

2015-16-
Arizona State
@Maine (Ice Breaker tournament, October 9-10)
@Vermont (Catamount Cup, January 1-2)
@Michigan State
@NMU

2016-17:
Michigan State
Michigan Tech
@Notre Dame (Shillelagh tournament, Thanksgiving weekend)

The non-conference schedule for next season should be set, some dates probably still have to be finalized though. There should be one more non-conference series scheduled for 2016-17. I'm not sure if we will make a return trip to Arizona State that season or not.

Jake Hand wound up with 2 goals for Chilliwack last night. He seems to be finishing strong in his last Junior season.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014-15

I hope he brings them hands to Lake State. As everyone on this site knows we need offence.

Bill--Mitch Vanderburg is a great skater and would fit into Lakers up tempo game. He likes the Soo and no doubt about it someone will make him a offer, but with him right here in the Soo lakers could sign him for 2016-17 season and tell him to stay right here and great lots of playing time with the Eagles and continue to watch him develop. Gauthier and Gamelin may not make the Eagles next season unless they get bigger and stronger in the off season. I understand they signed a another kid , last name Blackman who has o goals o assists the past 2 seasons97 -98 birthdate (REALLY) the way the Lakers are signing these players not much scoring ability,they will be hurting for scoring in the next few years.Laker scouts need to look for scorers and stay out of Daycare Programs.

The thing is, the vast majority of Div 1 schools are recruiting these younger kids. The Lakers were behind the times in that regard until Damon Whitten was hired. In fact, there are a number of kids with 99 and 00 birth dates who have already verbally committed to some of the big name schools. So although it sounds like we're recruiting kids that are too young, and there is some risk with that, you have to join the club or run the risk of missing out on most of the better players. Sure some guys are late bloomers, but it's pretty difficult trying to build a good team with nothing but late bloomers.

The Lakers have a verbal commitment from Nico Blachman, who I think is the guy your referring to. He's a 98 birth date and played this season for the Omaha U16 AAA Midget team and then was moved up to the Omaha U18 AAA team part way through the season. I know he was putting up points with those teams although I'm not sure how many. Midget hockey stats are a little harder to come by and I haven't made much effort to try and track those down. I see that he did also play 2 games for Sioux Falls of the USHL this season and didn't get any points in those 2 games so that may have been the stats you saw. Keep in mind that Blachman isn't even playing full time Junior A hockey yet so don't discount his scoring ability. He'll likely play a couple of years of Junior hockey before coming to the Lakers. He committed to the Lakers last Fall but I think he just made a visit to LSSU in the past couple of weeks.

I'm sure the Lakers are aware of Vanderburg. They will lose some forwards to graduation after next season and probably have room for more recruits for the 2016-17 season. Vanderburg may be someone that is on their radar. I don't know. Just because he plays locally for the Eagles doesn't mean they can go watch him play that often. There are NCAA rules for how many times coaches can go watch players they are recruiting. I'm not sure what that number is but it's not that many.

When it was first brought up I think it was supposed to be a return trip to Arizona State the following year.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014-15

Um ..... no. If you think I'm Roque, you're sadly mistaken. I do the @LakeStateHockey Twitter.

This should read, "Poorly manage the @LakeStateHockey twitter. I **** off more people than people who actually enjoy my tweets. I'm not a true fan of the program, because a true fan would stand by the decisions of the program. I'm just interested in ****ing people off and to make disparaging remarks about people involved in the program. But, I'm not Jim Roque."

That is your opinion, and you are entitled to it. As someone said earlier, this is an open forum and we can all express our own opinions. I receive many messages from fellow fans who appreciate my tweets, regardless of what you say. But again, you're entitled to your opinion, just as I am. Contrary to what you say, though, I am a fan tried and true. But, unlike some of the other somewhat misguided "fans", I like W's!!!!!!

Lake State does not operate like a Division 1 sport ... more like Division 3. It never ceases to amaze me how their paid employees use this board (under many different screen names) to spread their propaganda!!

What's telling about that twitter account is a couple of things. First, both current and former Laker players have tweeted on there that they dislike what's being posted. Second, although Laker Hockey Fanatic says it's fine for everyone to express their own opinions on here, the same apparently doesn't apply to that twitter account. When I tweeted an opposing opinion to some of the trashing that was being done there, I was blocked from following that account.

If you'd like me to unblock you, Al, I'd be happy to. Just tell me what Twitter handle to unblock. And the only reason a few people were blocked was for self-preservation at the time ... not for having an opposing viewpoint.

With regard to Bryce Schmidt's and Austin McKay's comments, I have since apologized to Austin, and everything is a-okay. I also had a long private discussion with Buddy Robinson and worked through that as well. So you can put your "stories" about my being negative to bed already. They're getting old!

No "stories". Someone else initially reported the negative tweets on your account, but I saw enough of it before I was blocked to confirm that's what was going on. If you're saying you've re-thought what you want to see tweeted on your account and are planning to stay away from the trashing Whitten/Dunbar/Crawford stuff, fine, good for you. I hope you stick to it. Why is anyone blocked from following your account if you're open to other viewpoints? Why don't you just unblock everyone?

The Vermont trip would be a fun one to make next winter.

Yes it would. Just gotta hope for decent weather for traveling though if you drive. Also most of the trip is through Canada and is long too, about a 14 hour drive, about as long as traveling to UAH.
