LSSU Lakers 2014-15

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014-15

Mi Tech and Bowling Green are showing why a coaching staff is the most importan thing for a team. Good coaching can bring you great results and bad coaching a bottom tier team . Pearson made his coaching staff solid when he brought in Shawhan from Northern.

Yes and it took Mel and the gang a few years before they finally had something to show for it....give our coaching staff a little bit of time and I'm sure that you will see the results you want. One thing is for certain, recruiting hasn't been this good since the first Anzalone period.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014-15

We have another recruit. Over The Boards is reporting that Gage Torrel (94 birth date), from Langley of the BCHL, has committed to the Lakers. They describe him as a "small but gifted forward, great speed and awareness on the ice".

How many recruits is this making for next season ? Is there going to be a clearing house going on with the team ?

I'm not sure. There are only 3 seniors on the team, all forwards, but Damon Whitten has said he wants more balance among the classes. So I'm expecting a larger than normal roster next season, and perhaps for a few years until they get that balance. Karty and Torrel have to come in next season because they will age out of Junior hockey after this season. I think the same applies to Gorowsky (a Roque recruit) assuming he is still coming to LSSU. I also expect that Basilico will be here next season and probably Cuglietta as well. These guys are all forwards. I think McArdle will play with the Lakers next season on D and maybe Headrick also if he recovers from his shoulder surgery quickly enough to get back in play for the Thunderbirds this season.

Unknowns. Will any Lakers leave early for the pros after this season? Will any guys think about transferring elsewhere because they are unable (or don't want to) adjust to the uptempo system Whitten wants to play? Those things affect which recruits may or may not come in next season.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014-15

I don't expect to see Gorowsky join. If his scholarship offer is no longer on the table it's a tough situation for the kid but at least he didn't come in this year and not play so hopefully he can get on with another squad somewhere.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014-15

Both teams played pretty well tonight. I think the Huntsville goalie played one heck of a game it took a real nice play on a strange 5 minute power play to get the puck behind him.

The freshmen defencemen look like they're getting used to the college game. Good team shutout.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014-15

Wonder if we'll have any lineup changes tonight. I caught most of the broadcast, but not all of it. Did anyone hear who the extra players are on this trip? I assume Aldridge is the extra goalie, but am not sure about position players. Miller? Loesch? Sandler? Harris?

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014-15

1 for 16 on the power play is not going to get it done on any weekend.

The Chargers played hard the whole weekend and the Lakers didn't easy as that.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014-15

I said earlier in the year that no one should be surprised if the Lakers finish behind Huntsville and people thought I was crazy. Did this past weekend show you how bad a team the lakers can be ? Even Crawford sounded disgusted by the end of the game. Lakers were working on their 11th power play when the game ended and lost 5-2 . Take a look at the schedule and try and figure out at this point who they can beat . It does not look very promising. For the last 17 years scoring goals has been a nightmare for Lake State and this year has the makings of being the hardest year yet and no offense means very few wins. So what is the answer . We sit and wait and hope the new recruits being brought in by Whitten can bring with them an offense.

Waiting is about all we can do now.....I do expect some more wins and for us to finish ahead of Huntsville...but you never know. We all knew this team was going to struggle this year and I know this is getting very very old but the future does hold some promise. Look it, in year 3 if the results are the same, then just blow the program up, disband it, demote it to D-III what ever but let's just give this a little bit more time.
