LSSU Lakers 2014-15

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014-15

Lakerhockeyfanatic....I understand your whole voice in the wilderness until the "dumb" administrators caught on view point and I certainly share your desire for W's because we all know its been much too long since we've seen a winning season in these parts but, and I emphasize the but, is it necessary to be so negative towards the coaching staff when those W's are a bit hard to come by this year?? No one is more frustrated at the sad state of Laker Hockey than I am but this in no way what so ever can be placed on Whitten and his staff. I don't really re-call the negativity during Roque's long and very mediocre reign (and calling his tenure mediocre is more than generous), when the Laker team disappointed us year after year.
Give this coaching staff a chance, they deserve it. Like I said, if this team stinks to high heaven in year 3, I'll join you on twitter and we can be the most negative SOB's concerning Laker Hockey in all of social media but until then understand what Whitten inherited and what he is trying to do.

Sorry I forgot to point out I want a lot of W's as well. It is in out nature plus it's been so d*** long since we had a winning hockey team.

Re: LSSU Lakers 2014-15

I am @LakeStateHockey on Twitter, and I would like to say a few things on my behalf. First of all, I am a long time fan of Laker Hockey. And I've followed the program under several coaches, therefore I don't think it's fair to refer to me as a 'Roquette'. I am not pro-Roque, nor am I anti-any-other-coach. I am pro-Laker Hockey-program! I like to see W's and that's the bottom line. I have been tweeting for Laker Hockey since November 2010, so I've been around for quite awhile. LSSU was happy to let me tweet for Laker Hockey ... heck, their AD didn't even know what Twitter was until some of my tweets started calling for her head (around the time Roque was fired). You see, prior to that, the AD did not see the importance of social media in the grand scope of things, and it was easier for her to let me do the job, rather than assign the responsibility to someone employed by the university. And so, for 4 years I tweeted my heart out in support of Laker Hockey. Such short-sightedness on the part of the AD again makes me question those in charge up on the hill and their ability to assess what is relevant in the support and promotion of a Division 1 hockey program. I mean, what AD lets someone not employed by the university be the sole Twitter account on behalf of their only Division 1 sport? I guess it would be the same AD who approved this video to be tweeted on the Official Laker Hockey Twitter account: http://youtu.be/jjoYXybqj8s Did I miss something, or was it intended to be that out of focus? What a joke!

As for Lake State "pushing to change my display name", quite honestly the only leg they had to stand on was the Twitter policy that relates to Impersonation. They said that I was trying to "impersonate" Laker Hockey. From the beginning, I never claimed to be official, nor was I attempting to impersonate anyone; they simply did not exist - there was no official Laker Hockey Twitter - I was the only game in town until September 4, 2014 when they tweeted their first tweet ever! So for the previous 4 years I tweeted solo as a fan site. I've always been a fan site. But, as far as Twitter policy goes, that's how they were able to get Twitter to temporarily suspend my account. Since then, I have jumped through all the hoops and made some changes to my account that Twitter has required, and I'm 100% bonafide good-to-go!

Personally, I think it's pretty cool that I exist as an 'independent' Laker Hockey Twitter. Between myself and the Official you get two different points of view. One is independent and not being paid for their opinion, and the other is like the government, where they are carefully controlling and spinning what they say, sort of like the White House Press Secretary does. I love free speech and am the unadulterated version, and the Official is like the government version ... akin to Snowden vs. the U.S. Government ... NPR vs. Fox News ... Jon Stewart vs. Brian Williams ... I think you catch my drift.

If you're on Twitter, give me a follow ... I'll keep you enlightened with anything and everything a Laker Hockey fan might want to know, and even some stuff you didn't realize you needed to know! See you on Twitter @LakeStateHockey!!
The term Roquette was established by another user on this forum for those Laker "fans" who were upset with the firing of Jim Roque and came on here bashing Dunbar, Mclain and even LSSU in general, and have occasionally even carried over that bashing to Damon Whitten as Roque's replacement. I'm well aware that the same type of bashing occurred on Twitter and Facebook immediately after Jim Roque was fired. Given the nature of some of the tweets on your @LakeStateHockey account, both from you and some of your followers, you shouldn't act surprised that you are being referred to as a Roquette. Heck, even in your post here tonight you resorted to Dunbar bashing.

You may view your Twitter account as an unofficial fan account, but a lot of your followers may not be aware that it has no official connection to the LSSU Athletic Department. I don't use social media much and don't know all the capabilities of Twitter. If Twitter allows for it, my suggestion is that you make some type of disclaimer on your Twitter account (that everyone can easily see) saying that your account is an unofficial fan account with no direct connection to LSSU. With a current user name of @LakeStateHockey, you're probably fortunate that LSSU hasn't asked Twitter to force you to change that user name again, especially with the negative tweets that have occurred. For an unofficial fan site, I have no problem with Laker fans offering differing opinions, but when it's done on social media like Twitter (or Facebook) and there isn't a clear distinction that it is only a fan site with no connection to LSSU itself, then I'm not surprised that the Laker Athletic Department doesn't exactly like it.

It should be patently obvious to you that when current and former Laker players aren't happy with what is being posted on your Twitter account, you are on the wrong track as to what material is appropriate if you want to be considered a true fan by those at the very heart of the program, the players.

As for suggesting that people follow you on Twitter, I find that kind of amusing because I know of specific cases where you have blocked users from following you when they chose to take issue (via tweets) with some of the negativity. Evidently free speech applies to your Twitter following principally to those who agree with you.

Bill (if that REALLY is your name), you clearly don't understand Twitter and the very nature of 'social media' in general. My account is called "LakerHockeyFanNation" ... it doesn't get much more explicit than that! But if you still doubt the nature of my account, you can click your little Twitter machine on my profile and read that I clearly state I am unofficial (I actually say 'Officially unofficial' ... hope that doesn't confuse you!) and that all tweets are my own.

1. This name change is recent.
2. Your name change was only made under duress.
3. I advised you to change your handle, and you refused to do so, changing only the display name as that's what @Twitter contacted you about. The handle is what made things confusing. I know a fair amount about that, because UAHstatman and I used to run our account as @uahhockey. We swapped with the University when they asked us to do so to limit confusion. Apparently even our own student athletes were confused.
4. People don't read Twitter bios, man, when it comes to this stuff. Again, our players were confused. Hell, people mention us fairly often, which I find silly because we're just a media organization. But we're far more active than @uahockey still is.

I don't think that you've done enough to distance yourself. I've told you that privately, and I'll state it publicly now.

Geof, I have done everything that Twitter has asked in order to be in compliance with Twitter fan sites. Like you, I enjoy tweeting about my favorite sport and my favorite team. I wouldn't do anything to jeopardize my livelihood in this regard, therefore, the name change was not made under duress ... it was my choice. What people see when my tweets appear is 'LakerHockeyFanNation'. And yes, the name change is more recent ... but then again, so is the existence of the Laker Official Twitter, hence the need for a name change and some differentiation.

The last really good weekend the Lakers had was their last bye week when all the teams we needed to lose, lost. Maybe we have another good weekend and that happens again .

Well we got help from the Beavers last night to maintain our 3 point margin over Anchorage. Hopefully Bemidji will get the sweep tonight. After this weekend, the Seawolves last 4 games are at home.

I think the Lakers are getting a better chance at making the play-offs by having bye weeks.
