LSSU Laker Hockey

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

The truth be told, you missed the point again. If you want to build a case for hiring a new Laker hockey coach, it probably wouldn't be that difficult. But, if you continue to compare him to the record below, your argument loses all merit and credibility:

You people and your zombie like obedience to this coach is what loses all merit and credibility. I am beginning if Bill is the former AD and his cheering antics for all things rock has an alter ego.

You want records: NCAA Champion 1988 responsible for laying the foundation for the championships of 1992 and 1994. Was on his way to rebuilding your little college's hockey program yet again before the coup in the dead of night threw Frank Anzalone under the bus.

You people should be ashamed of yourself on here how you treat a man that did so much for your little village.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

Truth(s)...Okay I got it. This is like one of those Wrigley Field Billy Goat curse things, eh?

The "Curse of Frank Anzalone" will doom Laker Hockey.....Evermore.

SO...we can save our money, not worry about recruiting or whoever the coach is because the Program is "Cursed". This can become a simple "Woe is Me" board.
It took many, many, many, many, many repetitions but I now see your message.

And I agree; The Truth is "Out There"
But I do finally see your perspective. No reason to participate when asked for solutions as there are none.

No way & no need to argue that position with me....I get it.
See Ya.........

Don't mock me Threedogroque. You fit right in with the arrogant attitudes displayed on this forum by the likes of Bill, yourself, your buddy head coach and his head cheerleader on the mic.

Anyone with an impartial bone in their body can see right through you and the rest of you people on here and this donor group. It is truly sad what you people will do up there to keep your friend in power, to threaten to pull funding for this project if they get rid of the coach.

Truly sad how you people treat and poke fun at a legend. I am done with you people you should be ashamed of yourself for your words towards the Anzalone family. Disgraceful.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

There currently are a range of contractual options for LSSU coaches. Coach Roques last contract was for two years.
Again, for the skeptics out there.......the Donor Group does not get involved in coaching activity and the only stipulations are the B of T supporting D-1 hockey for a ten year period (2012-2022). The Donor Group are making this donation anonymously as is their right. We discussed this at the start and it seems like an even better idea these days. There will be some naming of components that will accompany the completed project. This is not the kind of deal you often read about.......We do our job and let others do theirs. Sorry if the "anonymous" annoys the "Truths" that is not of our concern. I have no interest in furthering those discussions.

We only work to support the The Program with $$ support including the Goaltending clinic as well as the bricks & mortar improvements. Everything goes through the AD and the Foundation to assure we do things right. As in many things there appears to be the common situation of those who give the least, ***** the most.

Nice chatting with you folks........I will stop back over the summer as we have new project news to talk about.

Thanks to Chum and others who are buying a brick!!

We have been looking forward to hearing more about the project. Thanks for the update 3dog.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

I tend to think it is bogus. It doesn't sound like something Jeff Jackson would be a big supporter of.

I hate to disagree with the smartest man on here, but I think this is a good thing for the Lakers. Great Lakers Conference could include Finlandia, Adrian, Hope and Wisconsin-Stephens Point among a couple others. Combine that with the Norris Center renovations and their speculated conditions on keeping Jim Roque, and you could see coach lead his team, in his 10th season, to a possible Great Lakers Conference division title.

This is all good news. Thank you unnamed donors. Forgetting the past is the best thing you could do, the time is now, and in a few years your hard work will pay off in the Great Lakers Conference.

MOVE FORWARD!

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

Hopefully it is only a rumor. I could see some realinement between the two leagues. I tend to agree with the author of the story; it could do some real damage to college hockey.

I think you people up there know, and by blind allegiance, support, what kind of damage is going on at your little school and in your little village in terms of college hockey. Guess you people will have another thing to blame now, instead of Frank Anzalone.

You people are so predictable.

Whatever Monardo did before this past season, the rest of the team better take the same medicine or it is going to be a very long season coming soon to a hockey rink near you.

He trained with Richard Clark at the Athlete Training Center. He trained alongside the likes of John Tavares there.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

Check out what was announced by Western today. Sault native Jeff Blashill was rewarded with a one year contract extension (back to 5) and a guaranteed salary of $275,000. Meeting other benchmarks could max it out at $375,000! His original contract was 5 years at $150,000 a year.

I have no idea; how does $275,000 rank with other college hockey programs?

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

Here is the link to Coach Blashill's new deal; http://michigancollegehockey.blogspot.com/.

I believe the HC salary at LSSU is $60,000/yr plus benefits (car allowance, recruiting budget, etc.) and the last contract was for 3 years. I believe it expired this hockey season end and was renewed for 1 year.

Western has made a huge commitment to the HC. And it will pay off down the road. It already has. Their program is set for the future. Recruits and their advisors will see this and they will again be able to pull a lot of the top tier USHL kids. Mainly 2 reasons; 1-geographically an easy place to get to/from for family & friends and easy for athlete to go home, occasionally and 2-stability of program/coaches. No drama, just play, compete, go to school and have fun. Nothing is better than that.

Anastos at MSU just signed for $235,000 plus an additional in incentives. I think Jackson and Red are in the $250,000+ range. Not sure about Rico at Miami but I didn't think he was over $200,000. Anyone else have the numbers?

If you read the article online, it says the new money came mostly from donors.

If you read the article online, it says the new money came mostly from donors.

The Western Michigan donors, who I am sure were named, use their funds to get a good coach and turnaround a program from last place to the NCAA Tournament and a future college hockey power.

The unnamed Lake Superior State College donors, 3dogroque and his buddies, use their funds to renovate an arena that is 3/4 empty during playoff games, and as part of their conditions for this money, they say to keep the current coach, or else no terraces or fancy seats in the dressing rooms.

And you wonder why you people are talking about next season in November and making every excuse in the book for the head of the administration, and poke fun at those that built your little college into a once powerhouse.

You won't listen to me, or any of the others that actually look at things objectively. You might want to look at Kalamazoo and what they are doing there. But you will probably use excuses again, you people are so predictable it is sad.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

LSSU hovers in the 100k area, which is low. The mean in the CCHA (excluding ND & Big Ten teams) is $170k including Blashills new deal. I personally feel a floor for recruiting a CCHA coach is 150k.

This is a University expense. Many of the athletic departments are self supporting and do not require supplement from the general university budget, this is NOT the case at LSSU. Coaches salaries can be donor supported through an endowment for hockey operations. LSSU has one...the balance is embarrassing. You have a hockey endowment of less than 5% of MSUs hockey operations endowment.

As Buck Stated Modano worked out all summer with a top trainer. That is what the summer scholies and summer training sessions should bring to the Laker entire team. Hey, no one said we can do it all. We do know that the Lakers lack comparable locker room, strength & conditioning, and academic support vs most of the CCHA. The Laker Club will function as a team training table site, a post game meal site, and allow for some additional benefits to those who are Laker Club members. That is our little piece of the puzzle. Tom Anastos at MSU is adding offices, training facilities to the current Munn Arena, a dedicated strength & speed coach for Hockey, a director of hockey OPS / Video coordinator...more along the lines of our project.

There is LOTs to be done for Laker Hockey. One of the 'numbers" we are aware of are the sad donation dollar amts from the fan base, hockey Alums, and laker club members..shockingly low for a D-1 Program. I think it is fair to balance this number vs coaches salaries in a direct correlation. What do you think the WMU donor base contributes to the athletic department vs LSSUs donor base????? We expect the University to pay for operations..... a reasonable sized donor base would help that department fund a wide range of needs. We will bring in facilities we feel are essential....anyone else is welcome to talk with athletics to add to the program with their contributions. You simply need a equation for dollars in / dollars out from donors. To expect LSSU to pay $200k without an increase in financial support from the donor base is simply bad math. Often we hear "they should spend more on....." but where do the $$ come from? If change is desired a group of hockey alums and supporters could provide $$$$$ upfront to facilitate the funding of needed changes and it should be well received by Univ. Admin. It must be balanced with Title 9 requirements etc. so bring a big wallet. Is the program underfunded, you bet. Can it get to the FSU /NMU / MTU / Bemidji / CC / Minnesota State level......that is the next step in the process and that is mainly Donor based. Make a donation and plaster your name on it of you desire...THAT is what is needed.

I agree Kalamazoo has made the proper commitment to a program that two years ago was troubled.....I believe if their donors made the difference, they numbered more than the 4 in our group...NONE Laker Hockey Alums.

Truth....several big money NCAA jobs on the market, Frank returning to NCAA? (Serious question)

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

Very good post 3dog and i thank you for all that you and your group are doing. I have to admit i'm a bit suprised that none of you are former Laker Hockey Alums i have figured at least a couple were from the big announcement on.

I have two cars and both of them have the LSSU Laker plates on them through the secretary of state. It's not much but it gives me pride to show my Anchor wherever i go. My wife and i are getting a brick as well, times are tough and it doesn't look like they are getting better any time soon but we have set some money aside to try and keep something we enjoy so much.
