LSSU Laker Hockey

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

LSSU hovers in the 100k area, which is low. The mean in the CCHA (excluding ND & Big Ten teams) is $170k including Blashills new deal.

This is a University expense. Many of the athletic departments are self supporting and do not require supplement from the general university budget, this is NOT the case at LSSU. Coaches salaries can be donor supported through an endowment for hockey operations. LSSU has one...the balance is embarrassing. You have a hockey endowment of less than 5% of MSUs hockey operations endowment.

As Buck Stated Modano worked out all summer with a top trainer. That is what the summer scholies and summer training sessions should bring to the Laker entire team. Hey, no one said we can do it all. We do know that the Lakers lack comparable locker room, strength & conditioning, and academic support vs most of the CCHA. The Laker Club will function as a team training table site, a post game meal site, and allow for some additional benefits to those who are Laker Club members. That is our little piece of the puzzle. Tom Anastos at MSU is adding offices, training facilities to the current Munn Arena, a dedicated strength & speed coach for Hockey, a director of hockey OPS / Video coordinator...more along the lines of our project.

There is LOTs to be done for Laker Hockey. One of the 'numbers" we are aware of are the sad donation dollar amts from the fan base, hockey Alums, and laker club members..shockingly low for a D-1 Program. I think it is fair to balance this number vs coaches salaries in a direct correlation. What do you think the WMU donor base contributes to the athletic department vs LSSUs donor base????? We need money to give Jim Roque a fighting chance. We expect the University to pay for operations..... a reasonable sized donor base would help that department fund a wide range of needs. We will bring in facilities we feel are essential....anyone else is welcome to talk with athletics to add to the program with their contributions. You simply need a equation for dollars in / dollars out from donors. To expect LSSU to pay $200k without an increase in financial support from the donor base is simply bad math. Often we hear "they should spend more on....." but where do the $$ come from? If change is desired a group of hockey alums and supporters could provide $$$$$ upfront to facilitate the funding of needed changes and it should be well received by Univ. Admin. It must be balanced with Title 9 requirements etc. so bring a big wallet. Is the program underfunded, you bet. Can it get to the FSU /NMU / MTU / Bemidji / CC / Minnesota State level......that is the next step in the process and that is mainly Donor based. Make a donation and plaster your name on it of you desire...THAT is what is needed.

I agree Kalamazoo has made the proper commitment to a program that two years ago was troubled.....I believe if their donors made the difference, they numbered more than the 4 in our group...NONE Laker Hockey Alums.

This Jim Roque telethon promotion brought to you by the one of Lake Superior State College's biggest unnamed donors 3RoqueNight. Phone lines are open, but much like the attendance at the Norris Center, no one is there. You people never seize to amaze me up there the level of your ignorance or I should say obedience. It is almost laughable at this point if it wasn't so sad.

The master of misinformation is now the master of altering statements made by others, wow.

How can you stand to live around such ignorance? End it all Buddy, I am sure you will be rewarded by 60 Frank looking Virgins in the next life, rather than Rosie and her sisters in this one.

You want to talk about misinformation that would be you and the rest of the Roque lovers that will do whatever it takes to keep him. You did that with these unnamed donors and their conditions to keep the coach, Bill and others do that with their propaganda spewed on here and on the airwaves in your little village, and you think you are all so smart and clever, well your not, and the people see right through it and that is why you get about 600 fans for a playoff game that is pretty meaningless.

You have it all figured out don't you 3Roquenight. I thought Bill or the Minister of Information were snowed by their allegiance to this administration. I guess you take the cake because you have actually put your money where your mouth is to keep Jim Roque. Keep bashing Frank Anzalone and keep making a fool out of yourself while doing it.

You people are so predictable.

Truth Squid/Serum, you post the same thing over and over and over and over and over. Then, you say:

"You people are so predictable."

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

3dognight-

Is there a website to go to if someone was interested in donating to the program or buying bricks, etc. Is it all through the University or is there independant groups, alums, foundations, or fund raisers that support the Sports Programs?

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

Hi 4life....The best way to donate via the brick campaign, Laker Club, Hockey Endowment is to contact the LSSU Foundation.
Tom Coates, Executive Director can be reached at tcoates@lssu.edu or 906-635-6670. He can get anything you need for whatever donation you can make.
The Foundation will assure your gift gets you IRS deduction paperwork.

You can also access it online at www.lssu.edu, click on "Give to LSSU" and you will see the brick program link.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

Anastos fills out his staff with Spartans. He hires Kelly Miller and Mike Gilmore while retaining Tom Newton.
Adam Nightingale is hired as video coordinator

Miller & Newton are FT asst coaches, Gilmore will be the Volunteer asst coach for Goalies, and Nightingale is video coordinator.
A VERY solid staff. Anastos and Hollis are rebuilding with Spartans and contacting hockey alums from day one.

Comley was not a Spartan and did little to work the former players / coaches connection.
Anastos is making that a cornerstone of his Program. The Xs & Os needs have been met.

Realignment IS the buzz in Naples. ND looking at WCHA. Some discussions of D-1 schools (ND-MU-WMU-BGSU-UNO-Denver-AFA and others) and D-2 schools (LSSU-NMU-MTU-UMD-Bemidji -Minn State -FSU- CC-UAF-UAA-SCSU etc) forming separate leagues with several geographical divisions (?). Just LOTS of talk and speculation as things get started. Who knows what will come of it all but it is a topic on every bodies mind and tongues............USCHO has a separate thread on it all.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

3dognight,

Will there be another goalie clinic this Summer/Fall? Did you get any feedback from the one last year? In particular, I'm wondering if you've heard anything about Niels-Erik Ravn, his strengths, weaknesses, etc. It was kind of an unusual situation this past season for the Lakers. There wasn't a clear cut #2 vs #3 goalie going into the season, and although Kapalka eventually emerged as the overall #1 goalie, Ravn never really got a decent chance to show what he can do.

Thanks coach and thank these unnamed donors too. You have surrounded yourself with the right people. You knew that when you established your coup to power in the dark of night, and you continue being very slick.

If your coaching abilities matched your political abilities, you would have more banners hanging up at your little school, than the 8 or 9 that are responsible for by the great Frank Anzalone. How you people treat and talk about Frank Anzalone is really sad and 3dogroque, you along with bill (insert last name here) are the biggest apologists on here or in your little village, and have no credibility with fans that actually want to see their team win.

You people think it will be a brick for a lobby, or a painted seat that will bring your program back to the level under the great Frank Anzalone. You people know the answer and what it will take, and it isn't bricks or your hero Jim Roque.

Keep thinking and keep defending, it gets more laughable every day.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

Truth...any word on The GREAT Franks return to NCAA Glory? Jobs are filling fast...tick, tick, tick.

The entire NCAA are idiots for not finding that phone number , eh. 1-800-BIG-WINS isn't it?
Does the CHL have a fan forum that you can inhabit, with your favorite Bro-mance.

Can you talk colege hockey at all? New coaches moving schools, realignment, anything relative to the sport, in this decade?
(This is a college hockey site)

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

Regarding realignment I could get behind a FSU,LSSU,MTU,NMU, UMD, SCSU, Bemidji, MSUM, Northern Lakes Conference. Great competition. Throw in a few non Conf with Big 10 schools, conference bid to NCAAs, and that would be a solid conference of similar schools, many in hockey hotbeds.

Certainly not what the WCHA schools want to see, but if a "super six" conference of big schools (D-1 in all sports) happens, not the end of the world in a realignment situation.

I have seen the realignment thread on USCHO. At first I thought it would be a good idea to make all sorts of changes, but it may be better to let the dust settle for a couple of years then approach realignments.

3dog what is the difference between the Laker Club and the Blue Liners? I have thought about joining one or the other, along with getting a couple of bricks.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

Hi 54,

The Laker Club is a University Fund run by the LSSU Foundation supporting athletic scholarships and operational support for LSSU Sports. Donation levels are $50-$1500 Dollars and include season tickets, parking passes, media guides, etc. Info should be on LSSU athletics page.

The Blue Liners are an independent group of hockey boosters. They run the 50/50 at games, have events for players and parents, the Friday noon lunches , Golf outing, Dinner, awards, etc. This is a low cost group that usually makes an annual donation to Laker Hockey. Both are solid Groups that play a big role in Laker Hockey. I think Blue liners is $15 a year for a family. I think www.lssu.edu/athletics/blueliners will get you there.

I made a post on that the other day and suggested that exact conference. I think that's best case scenario for LSSU. All of the schools have a similar geographic tie and are similar in that they are Division 2 for other sports. I think it would be competitive and the winner of the conference would be able to compete on a national level. I personally would rather watch LSSU play against schools like Bemidji and SCSU than Western and BGSU. Ferris is really the anomaly in that conference realignment. From a geographic standpoint they are kind of an out lier.
