Re: LSSU Laker Hockey
This Jim Roque telethon promotion brought to you by the one of Lake Superior State College's biggest unnamed donors 3RoqueNight. Phone lines are open, but much like the attendance at the Norris Center, no one is there. You people never seize to amaze me up there the level of your ignorance or I should say obedience. It is almost laughable at this point if it wasn't so sad.

LSSU hovers in the 100k area, which is low. The mean in the CCHA (excluding ND & Big Ten teams) is $170k including Blashills new deal.
This is a University expense. Many of the athletic departments are self supporting and do not require supplement from the general university budget, this is NOT the case at LSSU. Coaches salaries can be donor supported through an endowment for hockey operations. LSSU has one...the balance is embarrassing. You have a hockey endowment of less than 5% of MSUs hockey operations endowment.
As Buck Stated Modano worked out all summer with a top trainer. That is what the summer scholies and summer training sessions should bring to the Laker entire team. Hey, no one said we can do it all. We do know that the Lakers lack comparable locker room, strength & conditioning, and academic support vs most of the CCHA. The Laker Club will function as a team training table site, a post game meal site, and allow for some additional benefits to those who are Laker Club members. That is our little piece of the puzzle. Tom Anastos at MSU is adding offices, training facilities to the current Munn Arena, a dedicated strength & speed coach for Hockey, a director of hockey OPS / Video coordinator...more along the lines of our project.
There is LOTs to be done for Laker Hockey. One of the 'numbers" we are aware of are the sad donation dollar amts from the fan base, hockey Alums, and laker club members..shockingly low for a D-1 Program. I think it is fair to balance this number vs coaches salaries in a direct correlation. What do you think the WMU donor base contributes to the athletic department vs LSSUs donor base????? We need money to give Jim Roque a fighting chance. We expect the University to pay for operations..... a reasonable sized donor base would help that department fund a wide range of needs. We will bring in facilities we feel are essential....anyone else is welcome to talk with athletics to add to the program with their contributions. You simply need a equation for dollars in / dollars out from donors. To expect LSSU to pay $200k without an increase in financial support from the donor base is simply bad math. Often we hear "they should spend more on....." but where do the $$ come from? If change is desired a group of hockey alums and supporters could provide $$$$$ upfront to facilitate the funding of needed changes and it should be well received by Univ. Admin. It must be balanced with Title 9 requirements etc. so bring a big wallet. Is the program underfunded, you bet. Can it get to the FSU /NMU / MTU / Bemidji / CC / Minnesota State level......that is the next step in the process and that is mainly Donor based. Make a donation and plaster your name on it of you desire...THAT is what is needed.
I agree Kalamazoo has made the proper commitment to a program that two years ago was troubled.....I believe if their donors made the difference, they numbered more than the 4 in our group...NONE Laker Hockey Alums.
