Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

Sounds like when I got stuck on I-81 heading back from Boston with the ECAC Championship in 1966. They had an official 108"
in Owego!!! Clarkson (Potsdam) is actually about 15 miles North of he snow belt. Enjoy your summer in the Soo.......hmmmmm, let's see,
that's July 17 this year!!!

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

Well I see that many of us are coming around to the fact that Laker Hockey's success hinges on the available resources and in all reality a coaching change will only do so much to improve the fortunes of the team....the question now is how do we increase resources (ie money generated from fans). 3dog seems to think that the demise of the CCHA will be a positive step as the Lakers will no longer be a minnow going up against large pike in a big lake and instead be morphed into a perch going up against trout in a smallish pond.

This may or may not bring fans back. I know one thing though, right now faith in the current coaching staff and the Lakers as a whole is at a very low point. They have to be successful next season...if not then there will be little choice but to make wholesale changes from top to bottom in an attempt to regenerate fan interest and drive up revenues.

MTU hires Pearson at 250k plus.........Hockey Alums kick into coaching endowment to make it happen (rumor has it at about 2 million dollars pledged from hockey Alums).

Major step by the Huskies......Mel will need to win soon, but first recruit his rear off.
Congrats to Pearson and MTU for stepping UP.

Agreed. Excellent job and hire by Michigan Tech. Now if only the Lakers could get a hire like this. It will probably take at least a couple years though before the results start show.

As for the Lakers, hope they get off to a much better start than last year. They could of finished 5th or 6th had they played better at the beginning of the season. Hopefully the schedule isn't too tough to start.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

QuadCity Mallards suspend operations for the upcoming season.

The CHL may shed 3-4 teams, some moving up to E, some down to Jr Jockey, and some closing doors.

I believe the good results will start next season. Tech only had four wins last season. I expect with Mels winning atmosphere things will change quick and rapid.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

I am thinking 10-12 wins with the change bump and what must be better health next year......what are you thinking Yoop?

If he brings in 3 to 4 of his own players and some highly sought AC's expect nothing less then 15 wins.

The key is he brings in his own players.

Unless he tells some returning Tech players they no longer will be part of the team, thus freeing up some scholarship money, don't count on him bringing in many of his own players next season. Even if he could convince some UM recruits to come with him, I doubt there is any scholarship money available unless he cuts some other guys up front. It will likely be the season after next before you start to see him bringing in many of "his own" players.

Couple of the players on next years roster have parents employed by MTU so they would only need half scholarships.
Which would free up room for a player or two.

Still, Tech had a pretty large roster this past season with only three Seniors listed. In combination with the recruits already signed for next season, I doubt there is much if any scholarship money available for Mel to use next season. Now the season after may be a different story.

I hope the key word is "cut players" and start from scratch while bring in any players that has recruited in the past. Those players are going to be under the spotlight since he has a proven recruiting track record at UM.

I would hope he would want to coach Mel type players not Jamie type players. His recruiting ability will show with wins.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

Miami released it's schedule today. We will be playing in Oxford October 28-29 and we play the Redhawks at Abel Arena January 13-14.
