LSSU Laker Hockey

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

I have heard it does and i agree with you 100 percent. They would not make a change if he had years left on his contract.

It would be good if it does because it is at the point where a change needs to be made. Fan support is really going to drop after this year if he is back. 5 or 6 people that I sit near when attending home games are considering dropping their tickets for next year, and just attending a handful of games throughout the year. I imagine that other people have similar thoughts.

I am hoping that Joey Schawan will take over. He always seemed to do a good job at drawing kids to play for the Sault Indians. He got talented players such as Ryan Miller.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

Are you guys ready to DANCE at this weekends playoff series!!!! It should be a great match-up. Two very even teams that know if they don't bring there A+ game this weekend it will be time to dig out the golf clubs and dust them off. LOL.

THANKS for the TV info. Do you know if Saturdays game and Sundays game if needed will be on TV also?

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

Much like tonight, where listeners out of town were not able to hear the Jim Roque Show, the same thing happened the week after the CCHA reprimanded Roque and he alleged in the Soo Evening News that he filed a police report against the linesman, who also happened to be a police officer himself.

If it was addressed by the head cheerleader I would be very surprised.

The Truth Is Out There....

So as usual, you don't have anything new to offer.

I doubt it. If CBS Sports does carry another game this weekend, it will probably be from a different series. We can always hope though. I haven't heard yet if Fox Sports is planning to broadcast any games this weekend. That's another possibility.

On the fox sports schedule it has CCHA hockey sceduled at 7:30 with the teams TBD.

On the CCHA composite tv schedule it said that CBS would be carrying a first round playoff game on 3/4 or 3/5. Because of this, I do not think that they will broadcast a game from a different series.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

If JR gets the boot I think a wide search should be done as well but unless LSSU can lure an unlikely "rabbit out of the hat" type of candidate, they are most likely going to be left with willing candidates that have resume's that resemble that of a Joe Shawhan.

If that is the case then obviously Shawhan should be our first candidate, being that he already has experience with the program and the city itself he would be able to get off the ground running faster than a coach who doesn't have much internal knowledge of the program or the town. Someone like that would have to take some initial time to familiarize himself with those type of things.

If Roque does end up getting fired after this season I plan on sending AD Kris Dunbar an email suggesting that the Lakers contact John Harrington, who was a member of the 1980 Miracle on Ice U.S. Olympic team. Harrington worked in the 80s and early 90s as an assitant at Denver and St. Cloud State before becoming the head coach at St. Johns University, a D3 school in Minnesota. SJU was a god awful program before he took the job and he turned them into a contender nearly overnight, they went on to win numerous conference titles and make a handful of NCAA appearances during his tenure there, and he sported a .620 winning percentage during his 15 year career at SJU. He left there to coach overseas including a short stint as the head coach of Slovenia's national team, he currently coaches a men's pro team in Italy.

I read a book on the 1980 team and I remembered that it mentioned that Harrington always had the dream of coaching big time college hockey if that opportunity ever came along. It's certainly a longshot, but the guy has the appeal of being on the most famous hockey team in the history of the United States, has experience at big time WCHA programs and has a track record of turning around a downtrodden program , albeit at the D3 level. He is the head coach of an overseas team but the Italian league isn't exactly a fast track to an NCAA job the last time i checked, so I think it it most certainly at least worth a phone call to the man to gauge his interest.

If JR's contract were not renewed the search committee needs to find a young experienced coach who is hungry for an opportunity like LSSU can and would provide. I am optimist that there is such coach out there who would like to coach at Lake Superior State University. An example would be; to the chagrin to many of you Michigan fans I am an Ohio State football fan. Look at their coach and program and where he came from. OSU dipped into Division II to a very successful program at Youngstown State and nabbed Jim Tressel. Lake State needs to dip into the lower ranks and pick someone who has run a championship program.

I heard the name of Joe Shawnan a Northern Michigan Assistant Coach. Hire Rick Cromely as a consultant to find an up and coming coach; maybe he would like to help out his alma mater. How about an up and up and coming coach like Ron Fogarty from Adrian College the first coach at Adrian; after 4 years he has a winning percentage of .892 with a record of 98-11-2; http://www.uscho.com/stats/history/adrian/mens-hockey/2010-2011/. Quite frankly looking at his bio he might be what the doctor ordered.

I dont think FSD is doing a game this weekend now its not on the CCHA site anymore. Fridays game is on CBS College Sports.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey

You can't forget totally about the past and the man that won your little school's first National Championship and built the program into a national powerhouse and two more titles. Frank Anzalone ... Anzalone's out of town.
The Truth Is Out There........................
OK, very sorry about that. We don't forget, it was great times, we all give FA credit for that, and nobody is saying the team is in a better position now.
It would probably be great to have him back but, as you say, he would turn the offer down. So let's move on, please.

We would love to know about your second choice ?
