Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2
Although I can appreciate 'out-of-the-box' thinking, we all know that's not going to happen. If they had enough dough to make that happen, they would just send him packing and pay someone a decent salary. Hockey coaches always want to coach, well, unless your Ron Mason
Please don’t take this post the wrong way because I don’t have the passion for Laker hockey that you do. I do this for amusement.
I agree with you that nothing will change but please consider what the majority of Laker fans who purchase tickets and do not work at the University or are not connected to “those that are in control” are feeling.
What “We know” is that LSSU will be picked to finish in the bottom half of the league again next year regardless of which league. We know that of the games we win, most will come in the first half and whether or not we finish a couple games over .500 will be determined by how many first half games we win before we hit our second half tailspin. We also know that there will be no coaching change and the only defense that Coach Roques friends will have is to discuss the budget, his salary, who he knows and that if he doesn’t show improvement next year it may be his last. We know this because it has happened for six straight years. Please do me a favor and look up the definition of “Insanity”.
What we uneducated folk see are three teams in the NCAA final four this year that have never been there before and a fourth that hasn’t been there since the 50’s. Yes we agree that we cannot afford a present day big name coach. What we want is the George Gwozdecky that coached at River Falls Wisc. The Jeff Jackson or Bob Daniels that coached in the NAHL. The coach from Mass-Lowell that coached Div. III three years ago. The Don Lucia that started in Fairbanks AK. What we want is a feeling that the team we pay to see has a goal. ANY GOAL. Ferris State made the final four, Bemidji made the final four, Mankato made the national tournament this year and Robert Morris tied with WMU for the last NCAA spot and was knocked out by some conference playoff upsets.
The program needs some positive energy. When you imply that Coach Roque is safe because he is connected to the right people on campus, it does not present well in public. It reminds us of how he got the job in the first place. He had no resume’ that should have earned him the job and has done very little to maintain it.
It is not at good thing when more people showed up for each of the Eagles games last weekend than for game three of a do or die playoff series. Just some thoughts to ponder.
