Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

2 points on the road vs. #10 with a full house..........not a bad night! KK played very well tonight.

As for Michigan, it doesn't get any better. Next week they come to the Sault and the following week they go to Kalamazoo. It's possible it might be the first ever final 4 at the Joe without U-M and MSU.

And what a way that would be to close out the CCHA!! For the first time in a very looooooong time I feel that the Lakers are a legitimate contender for the CCHA title and a berth in the NCAA regional. I never thought I'd be able to say that again!!!!!!! Its been a GREAT year so far......lets keep it going!!!!!

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

Murdock has to be Murdock tonight and the team has to prevent another 45 shots against them this evening.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

Talk about pulling a rabbitt out of a hat...............getting out shot 45-25 including nine zip in OT and then winning the game in a shootout on the road. Now the trick is doing it two nights in
a row!!!! GO LAKERS!!!

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

It was amazing. The Lakers totally dominated in the last 8-9 minutes of the third and when the OT started, Western totally dominated. It was like that end had a puck magnet. Should be a hard played game tonight. The Lakers want and need the 5 points and the Broncos will not want to lose 5 of 6 points on the weekend in front of a sold out crowd.

Yea and another reason to be optimistic is the pending return of Campbell, maybe JR will pair him with McParland in hopes of getting him going, he has only 4 meaningful goals this season (2 of his 6 were empty netters) which is much less than expected. If McParland can get going and Campbell can hit the ground running, the Lakers will be a tough out for any opponent they will face.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

Lakers fall 3-1 in the Saturday rematch. I didn't see the game, but here are a couple stats that stick out from the box score:

Shots on goal:
WMU - 41
LSSU - 19

Power play:
WMU - 2 for 8
LSSU - 0 for 5

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

Offense starting to concern me again. The power-play seems to be inconsistent as well. I agree with an earlier post that McParland needs to score more goals.

Lakers need to sweep this terrible Michigan at home next weekend especially with another very tough series on the road looming against Ohio State.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

Excellent series against the lakers this weekend. I cant decide if our offense is unlucky or your goaltenders are really that good.... i mean we had over 40 shots each night...and they both blocked over 40 each night... either way good series...

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

It's a good time to play Michigan, after they were swept by Alaska AT Yost!!! Thier PP is pathetic (didn't Mel Pearson handle the PP? Where's Mel when they need him?). The Wolverines are 4-10-2 in
the CCHA. Wouldn't it be nice to see 'em 4-12-2 after next weekend???

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

Winning the shootout is not winning the game. My god,are we still stuck on winning the shootout means you won the game . Any game that goes to shootout is a tie and after the shootout it is a tie. Roque has to figure out why the Lakers gave up 90 shots on the weekend and why they just keep racking up penalties that just hurt them in games like they played against Western. Hard to win or even keep up when you have a guy sitting in the box . The offense is just killing them. The Lakers success as been goal tending and how long before they hit a bad night or two and that pushes the Lakers back down in the standings. Putting so much pressure on Kapalka and Murdock to win games night after night.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

You're right, of course - it's not a win but it is 2 points. Bottom line is that we were playing the defending CCHA champions in front of sellout (or near) crowds and took 2 of 6 points. we played better on Friday night than Saturday night and had we done a better job of staying out of the box we would have had a better chance of getting some points. Western is a better team than us top to bottom talent wise. They have one very good goaltender and we have two. Western, I believe has out shot their opponents in almost every game this season but I would have liked to have seen the margin a little tighter.

At the start of the season I picked WMU to finish 1st or 2nd and I think they will do that.
If we play the way we did on Friday we should take 6 from UM.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

Maybe you can take some solace from the fact that the Lakers are the first CCHA team to earn any points in Kalamazoo. Westen still has four home games with Miami and ND and those two series will likely determine how high they finish.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

Im not getting my hopes up. It seems like everytime we get to this point in the season the Lakers fade into the sunset. I'm going to go with I'm "cautiously optimistic" of postseason success this year.
I agree. In my eyes, they still haven't moved beyond the point of challenging for home ice in the 1st round of the CCHA playoffs. They still have to show me they're capable of getting a top 4 spot in the final CCHA standings (with first round bye and second round home ice), and the only way to do that is to be there when the CCHA regular season is over.

Notre Dame, Miami, and WMU will all finish higher than the Lakers. That leaves us with the task of finishing higher than Ferris, Ohio Stae and Alaska for the 4th spot to get 2nd round home ice. a daunting task but possible. The first step is to take 6 points from a struggling Michigan team. What concerns me about that is that Merrill is back, the juniors are over and maybe they are due to have a decent weekend for a change. Let's hope we jump on them big time Friday night and get our usual good goaltending.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

Michigan has lost 8 of it's last 11 games. Everyone and their mother are scoring on MI as they lack any serious goal tending. This weekend will tell everyone if Lake State has the talent and the drive to make a run on the second half .

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

It's true this Michigan team is down. We've yet to get a win on the road..a tie at Northern and a tie at Ferris are the best away games we've had this season.

Merrill is back, but the rest of our defense is injured. I was hoping to make it up to the Soo this weekend, but couldn't find any friends willing to take the trip with me.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

Hopefully the Michigan games have around 3,500 both nights. I would guess Campbell will be back this weekend.

Also we will find tomorrow if UAH will be the (n)WCHA's 10th member.
