Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

No kidding. The goalie rotation is going very nicely. As happened the last few years, KK really just wore down. Both keepers should be fresh. And who can argue with the results. And if one keeper suddenly starts playing poorly, there is quality support.

And I see the Lakers got some Poll love -- 26 vting points. Still a ways out of the Top 20. But its nice to start seeing some honorable mention! Onward and upward!

Any of you Laker fans going to make the trip to Lawson this weekend? Should be a good series, both teams coming off of successful weekends against the WCHA and ECAC.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

In the preseason I hypothesized that if LSSU scored 120 goals and held their opponents to 100 goals in their 36 regular season games that they would finish in the CCHA top 4 and secure an NCAA berth, along with a list of goal projections IMade for each player that I thought was feasible to reach that 120 goal mark. The Lakers are 12-10 after 22 games, 61.1% of the way through their season and they have scored 53 goals thus far, only 44.1% of their needed goal total for this scenarios, so they are behind their required pace toward the 120 mark. They have given up 51 goals, 51% of their "allotment" of 100 so they are ahead of pace defensively. Below in the left colum is each players goal total thus far for the season and in the right column was my preseason projection for them as a reference with their progress percentage listed....61.1% would be exactly on pace, a higher percentage means they are above their goal allotment pace, a lower than 61.1% means they are behind their projected pace.

Mcparland 6 - 17 35.2%

Monardo 8 - 15 53%

Lain 5 - 12 41.6%

Campbell 0 - 7 0%

Ciotti 8 - 7 114.1%

Radke 3 - 7 42%

Perfetto 4 - 7 57.1%

Power 3 - 7 42%

Robinson 6 -7 85 %

McKay 0 - 5 0%

Vernace 0 - 5 0%

Czuczman 2 - 5 40%

Ainsworth 2 - 3 67%

Schmitt 0 - 3 0%

Perrault 0 - 2 0%

Loesch 0 - 2 0%

Sternberg 2 - 2 100%

Bruneteau 1 - 2 50%

Wees 0 - 1 0%

Dommett 1 - 1 100%

Spratte 0 - 1 0%

Wall 0 - 1 0%

Drapluk 1 - 1 100 %

Are you surprised that the Lakers are only 7-7-0 in league play but still 5 points ahead of the Wolverines and 8 points ahead of Sparty. How times have changed!!! I agree that the two games at Lawson will tell a lot about the Lakers second half of league play. Hope they continue to win to secure home ice for the playoffs and earn a trip to the Joe!

They can't afford to get swept at WMU if they have any hopes of finishing in the top 4. Finishing around .500 would likely get them home ice in the 1st round but not the 2nd. Getting swept on the road means turning around and having to sweep someone at home just to stay at .500. I'm not sure about everyone else, but I think they're good enough to be better than a .500 team if they can play more consistently, and challenge for a top 4 spot. Whether they can do it or not on the ice, remains to be seen.

Let us hope Campbell can add a spark to the offense when he finally gets back to playing .

On the coaches show last night, it sounded like they are hoping to have him back for the Michigan series.

I don't have the exact stats in front of me but haven't the Lakers and the Broncos split the last 6-7 times they have played? Three points on the road vs. a ranked WMU would not be that bad.

Not sure about regular season, but the Broncos swept the Lakers in Kalamazoo last March in the CCHA playoffs. I'd be happy with a split this weekend.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

A split this weekend would be fine -- but I have to wonder if WMU has peaked a bit. After a scorching hot first half, they are 1-2-2 (2-1-2 is you count the dreadfully boring horrible MSU shootout "win" -- which required a miracle last second goal) in their last five -- against not-exactly powerful MSU, Bemidji and Tech. (I know, LSSU split against MSU, BSU and Tech . . . ). They have also played one of the lighter schedules in the CCHA.

So perhaps I should be talking myself into more. The Lakers have looked very solid. The defense and goaltending has been outstanding, and now they are getting solid play from three good lines. The PP has come to life a little more. And the injury bug appears to be slowly passing away.

Getting any points this weekend is big -- but there is no reason the Lakers can't play smart, defense-first hockey and swipe all six points from Western.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

I want a sweep and see no reason why it can't happen if they play smart hockey and are hungry for both games and the A team plays both nights.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

A lot of us have been on here a long time and we were here when Borek was leading the team and it is about time we have a team that has the possibilty of beating the best and not because the best had a bad night but this is a good team capable of playing and beating anyone. I know Bill and I have been watching the Lakers since the 60s and this team gives me the first hope of a revival that may lead to their getting back to the NCAAs each year.

I don't think we've peaked, at all.

This 1-2-2 stretch has been away from the friendly confines of Lawson, and we've run into some pretty hot goalies. Over this 5 game stretch, with the exception of the Saturday UM game, WMU has outshot each opponent by a pretty significant margin.

In addition to running into some hot goalies, WMU has been missing key pieces along the blue line. We have 7 defensemen on the roster. 3 of them haven't played at some point over the 5 game stretch.

Garrett Haar missed 4 of the 5 games (MSU - Tech - [2] Bemidji). Haar's replacement, Matt Stewart (7th man, normally doesn't dress), was suspended for the 2 Bemidji games for a hit against a Tech player. Dennis Brown missed the GLI Championship versus Tech.

In summary, WMU ran into some hot goalies, struggled to light the lamp and was playing a few men down along the blue line.

I wouldn't be shocked with a split this weekend, given the recent struggles. However, I still think WMU sweeps at home. Where we are 8-1 on the year, outshooting our opponents by a 37-18 clip and have sold out all 5 CCHA home games.

Safe travels for anyone coming down!

6 points would be great but it will be very tough. Looks like both games will be sellouts and WMU is 8-1 at home this year and has not lost back to back games this season. With the exception of their 1st game at Bemidji they have struggled to score a bit lately and our goalkeepers have been playing very well. However, I'll predict a split.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

Huge shootout win against a very good WMU team. Unbeaten streak to six now, let's keep it going.

Rough night for Big 10 and NCHC (BHHC) teams. I really like that.

Re: LSSU Laker Hockey 2012-2013, Part 2

2 points on the road vs. #10 with a full house..........not a bad night! KK played very well tonight.

As for Michigan, it doesn't get any better. Next week they come to the Sault and the following week they go to Kalamazoo. It's possible it might be the first ever final 4 at the Joe without U-M and MSU.
