LSSU hockey 2013-14

Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

So in your opinion (and RapidsCity ardent belief), Lake State simply does not have the resources to go after quality coaching and if you can not get good coaching because of insufficient revenue then perhaps you should not be in the D-1 business.

Now you are partially correct in that Lake State has not sufficiently funded the program to where it needs to be but that does not mean they cannot find an extra 30-50 K a year to attract a coach like Lalonde.
Nowhere have I ever said that LSSU should not be in the D-I business. Just a few posts earlier, I had stated that it is very important for LSSU, Tech and NMU to not only fund these programs to be competitive, but to be successful. I feel that way about all of the UP D-I programs. One must also remember that it's not just 40-55,000 to get LSSU into an average coaching salary range for WCHA teams, but you also must move likewise for assistants, travel, recruiting, etc. There has been speculation that donations have pushed the LSSU recruitment budget to the midpoint of the new league. That's definitely a step in the right direction. A coach like LaLonde or Eades has a higher USHL salary, well compensated assistants and the financial resources to be consistently among the top programs in their league. In fact most WCHA teams would be in envy of what PMI provides the Gamblers for resources relative to the rest of the league. As I stated, there LaLonde went after the Denver job, one where compensation for he and his staff and program resources are at a premium, yet showed virtually no interest in either Huntsville or Anchorage. My question was not whether LSSU should or should not attempt to compete at the D-I level, it was why would LaLonde be interested in LSSU, when he had no interest in programs that compensate far better. Those are two vastly different ideas. Michigan Tech donors jumped up in a big way to bring Mel Pearson in. But it was far more than the $195,000 increase in the head coach's salary that got it done. Tech's support for its program increased by nearly $350,000 to get Pearson.

Just heard that Paul Jerrard has signed on as a coach of the Utica Comets, the Vancouver Canucks AHL affiliate. I knew some team would gobble up his services quickly - he's a gem of a hockey asset!!!

I agree with BIll. I don't think anyone is looking for a star coach to come in and pay him big bucks to get him here. I believe the best hope for Lake State is a young coach looking to make a career with a huge deisre to win and a know how on how to improve players and get the best you can from them. I think that is what Anzalone and Jackson both were.

I said it before; there is nothing wrong with be known as the cradle of coaches. Look at Miami (OH) with their track record in football. With the names that have been mentioned here you could say LSSU has that reputation already started.

Please show me the salaries and recruitment difference that PMI provides for the Green Bay Gamblers vs the LSSU Lakers coaches and recruitment?

From what I've been told, the general salary for a USHL coach-G.M. approaches close to 100k. His top assistant earns around 50K. These numbers are very comparable to what Lake State could offer.

Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

Tim Chrisitan will be the Lakers new head coach this year.
Any updates Mr. Diamond? Friends say Coach Roque is going nowhere. Coach Christian tweeted that Coach Roque was not leaving. Can you follow up on your previous statement?

I don't think anyone believed Roque was leaving .

More smokes screens by his most loyal buddies up there. Its remarkable some people actually believed it.

Roque is not going anywhere and it will be the same for Lake Superior this year and the past 8 under this guy.

The Truth Is Out There....

Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

I am sure there are at least 20 teams interested in Coach Roque. With his track record the past 8 years it is certainly isn't a surprise to anyone least of all me. Year 9 under this coach will be the best one yet for Lake Superior!

Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

I don't know Mr. Diamond and I certainly didn't mean to state he is on here to troll like Pony or Truthy.

But until I hear some facts or something to back up that statement, it's as "trolling" of a statement as any Pink Pony post out here.

Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

If one person like Neil was to know about it,I am sure others would as well . Secrets may work if the one knowing it is dead but not if everyone is standing watch on the hockey program .

Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

I think Mr. Neil Diamond is one of those on the inside and I think there is a chance what he has said is true. I would like to hear more of what he has to say. I don't think he is the type to make something like this up and I think he has an inside to the staff. He may have let the cat out of the bag and has been told to be quiet It would be the fitting ending for Coach Roque. Waiting till the team reports thus totally limiting the opportunity for the program to move ahead. Handicapping our recruiting. Leaving us with a single part time assistant and an untested Head Coach. If he was interested in the best interests of the program he would leave now or stick around for the upcoming season no matter how painful it is going to be. The only way we are going to get better is with proper recruiting. This potential situation with non experienced assistants could be disaserous. Bowling Green tried this a couple years ago and ended up letting the interim Coach go at the end of the year and and the new coach has spent the past couple years cleaning house. We need to right this ship as soon as possible.
I just wonder if the same fans who have been wanting Roque to get fired all along would rip him for leaving. By the way, there is no evidence he's leaving, so why bother to critique him for something he hasn't done? If he is moving on, opportunities don't always come on a timetable that is perfect for everyone, coach, player, fans, etc. If you had an opportunity to improve your employment situation, to take a position that would improve your ability to reach your goals and better provide for your family and for your future, would you put your present situation ahead of that? Best to let this situation play out, if there is indeed a "situation." before criticizing what has not yet been, nor may ever be, done.

Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

Classes begin in a week and a half, so one way or the other the coaching situation should be resolved fairly soon. If Roque decides to go, hopefully he won't put off the official announcement much longer.

Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

I don't think Roque is planning a late departure just to put the program into a tough position on time. Roque isn't going anywhere .

My thought was more a late departure to help one of his assistants get the head job not sink the program. Regardless, If he were leaving I am sure the administration is aware of it as the brother in law of the A.D. is an assistant coach. I don't think there will be any surprises. I wonder if he is staying it comes with assurances of a new contract?
