LSSU hockey 2013-14

The post also implies that most of our successful coaches left because of complacency on the part of the administration rather than just moving on to bigger and better things (more money).

Jeff Jackson LSSU to NHL AC.

Ron Mason LSSU to Bowling Green.

Rick Comley. LSSU. To. NMU

Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

In my opinion, the ultimate success of a D1 program is the ability of the recruiting assistant (s) in bringing qualified D1 prospects to campus to meet the head coach and tour the facilities. Many/most
head coaches don't travel often, and when they do, it's usually to close the deal.

What recruiting background/success has the recruiting guys had at Lake State. In the Lakers glory days, Jim Roque & Ron Rolston were the coaches bringing prospect in to meet Jeff Jackson.

Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

Tim Christian will be the Lakers new head coach this year.
So Roque is going to Buffalo (or otherwise leaving)? If so, seeing as its this late in the offseason, it would make sense to give the job to Tim on an interim basis. That way, he could more or less have the job on a trial basis this coming season, and based upon his and the Lakers performance, they could either take away the interim designation after the season or do a full job search then.

Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

I'dive Paul Jerrard a hard look if Roque is really leaving......................Paul was let go as an assistant coach with the Dallas Stars when they cleaned house after firing the Head Coach. He is a class act!!!

I'd have to agree with that FRICKER if Paul is interested and Roque is indeed leaving. My opinion is that if Roque goes, the admin will likely name Tim as his interim replacement. They would look at it as a safe move on their part at this point in the Summer.

Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

Hmmm?
After sleeping on it, I have a hard time believing that Coach Roque would do this, if it is actually true, to the University without the administration knowing.
Again, if this is actually true, I would think that A.D. Dunbar and President McLean probably were aware of what was going on and would have been in on the plan of a late announcement.

I agree with Pink Pony that Coach Eades, Coach Johnson, and others would be the best replacements. I would throw Coach Fogarty and Coach Shawhan in that mix as well. I don't agree that assistant college coaches that have no head coaching experience are good selections but if I had to choose, I would take one from a successful program with training under a successful coach rather than what Neil Diamond is suggesting. Let's look at MTU and BGSU, both programs are better taking career assistants but neither has had a winning record yet. I think they are headed in the right direction under Assistant Coaches from good programs though. Now look at Mankato. Successful Junior Coach into College Assistant to College Head Coach and immediately a winner. Coach Anzalone, Gwozdecky, Rolston, Jackson, Bazin, etc. all at least coached Division III first. Even Coach's Mason and Comley were with NAIA Head Coaches prior to DI Head Coaches.
Again, no disrespect to Coach Christian but has he even developed and run a practice? If I had to choose between the two, I would give it to Coach LaPrade. Management experience, Head Coach experience (Sault High).
Do you think guys like Eades or LaLonde want to take a pay cut to come to the Soo? LaLonde went for the Denver job an was a finalist. He very well would have been a top candidate at Anchorage or Huntsville as well. I can't see him wanting LSSU.

Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

Derek Lalonde was an Assistant Coach at Ferris before going to Denver.

He is a little familiar of the Soo.
That hardly means he wants to take a pay cut to go there. Wow he was an assistant at Ferris before Denver. I guess he's also familiar with Bowling Green, Miami, Ohio State, Northern, Tech, Bemidji, Anchorage, Fairbanks, Mankato and every other school in the CCHA and WCHA.

Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

If he wants to be a college Head Coach someday Soo wouldn't be a bad place considering Denver didn't take him.
Just curious, if he wouldn't be interested in $140,000 in Anchorage or around $125 in Huntsville, why would he take a pay and resource cut from Green Bay to go to the Soo? He has all the resources he needs for success in Green Bay. PMI, the Gamblers owners, allow him the resources he needs to recruit, promote and succeed. He obviously was interested in a top tier D-1 job in Denver, one which provides all those tools as the collegiate level, but he showed little interest in two other schools in the WCHA that had openings.

So in your opinion (and RapidsCity ardent belief), Lake State simply does not have the resources to go after quality coaching and if you can not get good coaching because of insufficient revenue then perhaps you should not be in the D-1 business.

Now you are partially correct in that Lake State has not sufficiently funded the program to where it needs to be but that does not mean they cannot find an extra 30-50 K a year to attract a coach like Lalonde.
