Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

Roque using Ron Rolston (or him helping Roque out) to get a raise is the dumbest thing I have ever heard on this thread. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
I agree. I don't think money would have ever been an issue. Dumb statement. I do think that it helped gain some respect. To have your name floated with an NHL job has to be a positive. Regardless of the outcome I think a friend would do that.

Maybe I am not getting all the comments but Mrs. Pink Pony has lost me. I thought I understood the direction but I have no idea what's going on. It's wait and see time I guess.

Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

Pinkie is an outsider from the Twin Cities.

Highly doubtful Mrs. Pink Pony is not currently residing in SSM and I want to thank you for your comments regarding ways the program can improve. I think financially we seem fine. Mr. 3dognight coaxed the University to up the financial commitment which he said they did. Thie building is getting a face lift and maybe the remainder of the $5.5M could go into an endowement fund and the interest can be flipped into the budget. There's the money to hire a program changer.

What date is the Circus going to Soo? Man what a circus you have Soo.

I havent figured if Davyd broadcasts LSSU games or NMU games?

I will leave that up to you.

Bill Crawford does a great job for LSSU. But I do have tremendous respect for all the UP programs and follow them very closely. They all face similar challenges in building and maintaining success at both the conference and national levels. I'd love nothing more than to see Tech, NMU and the Lakers all in the WCHA Tourney next March!

Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

What changes can be made to improve the Laker hockey experience this coming year?

Get some fans from Canada to buy some season tickets. Advertize like crazy in Canada.

Have Dave Danis broadcast with Bill Crawford when the two teams meet. Legend with Legend

Invite Ron Mason, Rick Comley, Jeff Jackson, and Frank Anzalone to the ice to drop the puck in the opening game for their years of service.

Hang a big Doug Weight banner at the end of the ice, thanking him for his contributions to Laker hockey.

Bring each of the National Championship teams for a big reunions at center ice during three weekends next season.

Make some hockey card sets of players and have them give them to the youth hockey players and have them sign it.

Promote groups to go to the games. Kids in bunches will buy up food and parents will pay to cross the gate.

Hire a marketing person to sell tickets to the community.

Have coach go to class rooms and have many community gatherings with the public.

Yes spend valuable and limited advertising dollars on the Canadian side. Guess what, they get the US Soo radio stations on the other side of the bridge. But to spend more on a market where your chances of success are slim would be akin to spending your recruiting budget on kids that have Michigan and Minnesota to choose from otherwise. Bring those National Champs back for in season reunions? Who is funding the plane tickets, hotels and the rest? How are you getting 25 guys schedules coordinated like that. You might be lucky if you did one weekend to honor all of the champ teams together.

How do you get Jeff Jackson in? I hear he is kinda busy during hockey season with that Catholic school in Indiana.

Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

So I guess Jim Roque isn't going to the NHL??? He will be back for his 9th season, as I said, of bottom division finishes, second half collapses, dwindling attendance, more excuses, star players getting worse or disappearing off of rosters, promises to players broken, the same old song that has been played the last 8 years. But on the bright side for you uppers, thanks to him and his buddy "anonymous friend of Jimbo" donor you will have a new gondola and some fresh paint on the seats at the Norris Center, which is more important than a winning program and treating people with respect.

The Truth Is Out There....

I'm sure a friend would do that, but that would be going against the popular belief that Roque really doesn't care about his image or standing in the public eye. Can't have it both ways.

Somewhat disagree. The sheer size difference between Soo, Michigan and Soo, Ontario would seem to dictate the need to foster a more engergentic relationship. Plus, as I recall, there are many, many Canadian LSSU students. I think the school does an OK job reaching into Ontario, and with a hockey-happy 90,000 people just a short bridgehop away, there should be some ongoing efforts to connect with our Canadian friends. I personally think the school would do better advertising in Soo, Onatrio -- where there is a large alumni base, large student base, and large hockey base -- than advertising in some place like, say Northern LP Michigan. Just my opinion.

Now, to be fair, the Greyhounds have a great set-up, great arena, great prices, easy access, and the OHL is a fantastic product more in-line with the Canadian culture of Junior Hockey. And you can drink. So I would not expect a traffic jam on the International Bridge on Friday night for a game against Ferris State. But a few hundred extra fans coming from Canada would not hurt. And frankly, you are more likely to get a few hundred hockey fans from Ontario than you are going to get a few random fans from Alpena or Gaylord.

As for Minnesota -- pullleaase. The only thing good about Minnissippi is that I don't have to live there.
