LSSU hockey 2013-14

Somewhat disagree. The sheer size difference between Soo, Michigan and Soo, Ontario would seem to dictate the need to foster a more engergentic relationship. Plus, as I recall, there are many, many Canadian LSSU students. I think the school does an OK job reaching into Ontario, and with a hockey-happy 90,000 people just a short bridgehop away, there should be some ongoing efforts to connect with our Canadian friends. I personally think the school would do better advertising in Soo, Onatrio -- where there is a large alumni base, large student base, and large hockey base -- than advertising in some place like, say Northern LP Michigan. Just my opinion.

Now, to be fair, the Greyhounds have a great set-up, great arena, great prices, easy access, and the OHL is a fantastic product more in-line with the Canadian culture of Junior Hockey. And you can drink. So I would not expect a traffic jam on the International Bridge on Friday night for a game against Ferris State. But a few hundred extra fans coming from Canada would not hurt. And frankly, you are more likely to get a few hundred hockey fans from Ontario than you are going to get a few random fans from Alpena or Gaylord.

As for Minnesota -- pullleaase. The only thing good about Minnissippi is that I don't have to live there.

I do think that mining the Canadian side may be difficult, but like RC said, your American radio stations cover and in some ways cater to business on the more populous Canadian side, why not do a Bridge Token Night? LSSU buys 500 bridge tokens, the first 500 Canadians get bridge fare. A small investment and you'd get instant data on your Return on Investment.

90,000 untapped fans in Soo Canada. Get them to watch the
Lakers,

90,000 untapped fans in Soo Canada. Get them to watch the
Lakers,

You present a lot of "what" but you can never come up with the "how?" part. How well do you know Canadian hockey culture? Do you think that there have never been attempts to attract our friends from across the river? Do you think no one has ever reached out to influential alums?

So come on, show how much you really know. Don't just sit there in the Cities and tell us what we need to do in the UP, or what needs to be done in Maine, Alaska or even Huntsville. You haven't come up with one thing that someone here hasn't thought of already. We already know "what."

Invite Marty Turco to cross the bridge to watch a Lakers game.

Invite Marty Turco to cross the bridge to watch a Lakers game.

Except that Marty lives in the Dallas area. Great promotion, "Laker Fans, please welcome former Michigan Wolverine, a guy who coulda played here but went to Ann Arbor instead...from Dallas Texas...Marty Turrrrrrcoooo!!!" Better get your tickets early for that one. Sellout guaranteed!

The Soo Ontario fans would buy tickets.

Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

People on here are thinking gimmicks will bring Laker fans back. How about doing what most successful programs do....WIN .

Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

The best gimmick for me would to bring in the Slap Shot brothers to put on a show for a weekend. The house will be packed even by playing AIC.

Re: LSSU hockey 2013-14

Feeling left out Geof?

I just want someone to tell me that Kurt Kleinendorst is bound for [INSERT NHL TEAM HERE]. I mean, the man was an AHL HC [oh no, I've just started the "you can get an AHL coach to go to college and be a lifer at a school" argument], and I think that he wanted the Ottawa job, but dang.
