LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

Giving the time of day to Truth Squad is akin to giving up an hour of your time listening to a lunatic in a nut house talking about economics and politics....why would you do it??? Time is a precious thing and Truthy deserves none of it.

Now getting back to Lakers Hockey, does anyone really know how the fund raising is going....talk around town (and yeah I know, talk is cheap) is that very little is getting done concerning the Norris renovations (no architect or blueprints, little in the way of planing)....

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

Lakers2Glory, spin it any way you want, I think players should be off limits. I'll leave it at that.
jnacc has a great question. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think jnacc is getting at what many of us have heard. I asked a couple weeks ago for someone, Lakerblue, laker2glory anyone to verify that the $5M donation has actually been handed over to the University for the renovation project. Indications were that the $5M plus was donated to the University for the building renovation over three years ago and as jnacc is getting at, it does not look good that nothing has happened yet. If the money is in hand, it would be good to see work being done. I have been clear that I am a Coach Roque supporter for a single reason. He brought a $5M private donation to the University. FIVE MILLION DOLLARS equates to a lot of wins in my book. I am a strong supporter of Coach Roque getting rewarded in some fashion for this incredible contribution to our University. I have heard and read those that say the donation should have nothing to do with his status as coach at LSSU and I totally disagree. I think he should be given a long term deal. On the other hand, if the project were to fall through for some reason. I would start a Truth Squad for coach campaign.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

When players take to the ice they become open to ridicule or praise and that is just part of the game and being fans . Once you step out in the lime light ,you are going to be game for the ones who don't like you and the ones who love you . As much as we wish that wasn't so , it is the fact of being on display for the public.

I agree with Bill on Kapalka . I thought Kapalka was more effective his freshman year then he was this past season and not sure if Roque overplayed the guy.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

To be honest, the hockey players in Sault Ste. Marie live their lives in the open -- and yet on this site the posters herein have refrained almost entirely from calling out individual players bad games, skill level, or attitude. Furthermore, the posters on this site have almost universally refrained from commenting on our players' bar habits and/or post-game party antics. As small as the Soo is, and as small as LSSU is, and as high-profile as the LSSU hockey players are in relation to the small size of school and town -- I think all of the posters herein should be commended for keeping the conversation VERY civil, and keeping players and coaches private lives totally out of the conversation.

I am sure there are plenty of people who regularly read and post on this thread who know LOTS about the weekend activities of some of the players. I am sure anybody who lives in the Soo, goes to school at LSSU, or comes to visit the Soo for games, has seen several (if not most) of the hockey players out and about town at any of the local watering holes. And yet the posters on this thread show remarkable class and respect (in my opinion) by not jumping online to air laundry (dirty or otherwise) of the players.

Two players have been named and directly subjected to critical review in the past year: One was named entirely because of Truth-By-Many-Name's fatherly connection. The other was named and discussed (Ravn) as to player and roster moves and decisions made by the coach as to a back-up goalie.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

In this day and age what you do in public becomes public. However, if you are going to call a player out by name and attribute comments to them by name, have the guts to put your name on it. Don't hide behind a screen name.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

USCHO just posted an article about some potential rules changes including overtime and visors. Any thoughts?
I've never liked the shoot out so I'm glad to see it doesn't have much support across the NCAA. I don't have any problem with regular season ties. Whether they extend OT or not isn't a big deal to me.

I'd like to see OT expanded to 10 minutes, even though you know the road team is likely to play to preserve the tie.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

Truthy's kid lost in the Reebok Parking Lot Street Hockey Tournament semi-finals last weekend. The bitterness still lingers.

yes but it was the Refs Fault
The Tourney officials Fault
Jim Roques Fault
Kris Dunbars Fault
Frank Anzalone ... IS A GOD .... DONT YOU DARE!!!!
It was Bill Crawfords Fault...
NO WAIT Tim Christian.... NOPE... Lapra... Naw he wasn't even there when Smelly's Boy played.
HUH... Must just be parenting ... Just horrible HORRIBLE parenting... Too bad you don't have to take an IQ test before you get to have children... I am sure that Truthy Smellshard would have been a candidate for State aided vasectomies... I'd bet on it.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

Do you think he just gets out of the living room on to the computer and starts posting crap and then his kid sneaks in here in the next day and delete it all because of the overwhelming shame of having THAT guy for a dad?

Wouldn't YOU?!?!?!?!?!

No problem with that SM2PK, but don't you think we arm chair coaches should stick to judging on ice performance. I am speaking for myself, but I have no concerns with your comments on KK, I just don't think it's right bringing up bar room talk to validate coaching decisions. If a player is not good enough then that's it. Make a decision and move on. Do we have to get personal with players like Barchuk, Sellers and Ravn's because they no longer fit into the plan? Most people know that the real problem is that LSSU has too many goalies. They have a kid committed who needs to come in this year or next. Problem is they don't have an opening this year or next so one guy has to go unless they decide to keep four which I don't think is common practice. A kid dooes not have to be painted as a problem child to solve this situation. If he has really been insubordinate then he should be let go from the team on those grounds. Problem solved but do we need to set things up on this site? My understanding is that his teammates really like this kid so I'm just saying for the sake of class, let's stick to on ice performance unless some kid ends up in police and fire in the newspaper?

With the Soo Eagles now being part of the NAHL, it makes you wonder if Marble will come to the Soo this season to play for them, in which case he could also start classes at LSSU if he wanted to. I think Roque wants him to play another season of Juniors. Whether Marble wants to do that, I don't know.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

From what I have been told by numerous people is that Ravn didn't put in the work needed his 1st year here to earn any playing time. Last year he really stepped it up and everyone is really happy with his dedication and preparation. Hopefully he keeps that up this year and earns a few starts. If he really is putting in the hard work and he gets the short end because of too many goalies coming in or personal issues, then shame on Roque for missleading him like that. I guess only time will tell. Good, healthy competition at the goalie position will help Kapalka, Murdoch, and Ravn grow!
Assuming Ravn returns to LSSU, I would be surprised if he ever sees any actual playing time unless both other goalies are injured or sick. I think Roque prefers to see him leave LSSU; I don't see Roque giving Ravn a chance to play barring injury or illness to the other goalies. And it doesn't appear that the administration has any plans to change coaches in the near term.

I'll give you $5M reasons why changing coaches would be a bad move. We have a coach. I say we let the player and our Coach settle this issue and wish them both the best. If the worst that happens is a student athlete gets a bachelors degree in engineering from LSSU then so be it.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

I would guess if they were remotely interested in switching coaches it would have been done already. The summer is the best time to get acclimated to the campus and the facilities. They wouldn't make a switch this late unless something major caused it.
Yah, if they were going to do for next season, the decision would have been made right after the conclusion of this past season. Roque's job is safe for at least one more season.

If the administration has any thoughts about a potential coaching change in the next year or so, it will likely be based upon on mediocre at best team performance, not any issue between the coach and a player (of which they are probably not even aware).

Nice post. Probably the best post on this subject.

I choose NOT to take the higher road: Ahem, cough, did I mention -- just off hand -- that we're discussiong a third string goalie? Maybe . . . I don't recall . . . but maybe it was mentioned? Yeah, hahaha -- lets go after the Coach's head for his treatment of a third-string keeper. Ha. Thats funny stuff right there.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

Sad how in the bag you are for this administration that you ridicule and hurt another kid up there like this. I am sure it isn't very funny to Mr. Raven, his parents, or those who care how their kids are being treated.

The Truth Is Out There....

Ah, so you'be talked to that goalie, his parents and know the whole story. How long before you delete this post like the rest? Is the third stringer a "star" too, like the 4th liner who scores a point a month?

I am, without any shame, 100% "in the bag" for LSSU hockey -- up to, and including, the present Administration. Always have been. Always will be. I am a shameless promoter, in my own absurd manner, of anybody who stands behind the LSSU bench. I may gripe, complain, and have a few nights when I leave the stadium in a grumpy mood. But I am such a huge fan, alumnus, and supporter of this school and its hockey program that I just can't seem to gin-up the angst to hate the head coach because of how he treats his third string goalies. (Which, I might add, is not too badly -- if all you have to go on is an insult-by-ommission during a radio show and the player's non-playing time . . . HA).

I am in the bag for this school -- and there is No insult there (if that was what you were aiming for).

Re: LSSU Hockey 2012-2013

Wait a second . . .. a kid? A College Junior? since when did college juniors become "kids" upon whom no bad word can be used? When did college-aged juniors become 4 year olds?

Just curious when a kid old enough to vote and drive and fight in the Canadian Armed Services is a "kid" upon whom nary a nasty word can be spewn?

Just silliness.
