LSSU Hockey 2011-2012

Re: LSSU Hockey 2011-2012

I think the Lakers goal for the weekend should be to skate for a full 60 minutes each game. I'd love to see the offense really get going and the pp come alive, but if they put in a full effort those things should fall into place. Notre Dame won again tonight, and is on a roll. If the Lakers don't put in a full game against Jackson's team next weekend, they won't get far. They shouldn't over look Canisius, but look at the series as an opportunity to get their legs going and build some condifence with some wins.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2011-2012

I hate these odd start times. I'm glad Canisus isn't part of the new WCHA.

Hope the Lakers can solve their power play woes.
They share an arena with Buffalo State and Buffalo State played there last night and tonight. We let them know our open dates and this was the weekend they had to schedule the Canisius series. Buffalo State has priority (it's their arena) and we and Canisius were relegated to the odd start times.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2011-2012

I'm okay with a tie, but I want a win tomorrow. Nice to see the Lakers get a couple power play goals. Will Murdock get the nod in net Sunday?

Re: LSSU Hockey 2011-2012

I think the tie is disappointing. They are a better team than Canisius but played down to Canisius's level. The 2 PP goals are nice to see, but the offense is still struggling. Only 1 goal from the forwards today. It sounded like KK was struggling with rebound control although only giving up 2 goals isn't bad. .

I too wonder if they play to their compition. The last I heard, when I went into the deer blind, it was 1-1. I sounded like the first goal was a weak one. I hope they wake up and pull out a win tomorrow, so they can leave the weekend on a positive note going into next week's series at home.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2011-2012

Old habits may be creeping back.

If that's the case, Truth Boy may be coming out of the closet soon. Please win tomorrow Lakers. Keep Truth Squad from posting here.

In a more serious note, hope Radke can keep playing well. Hope Ainsworth is given a chance soon though.

It was disappointing to see the lakers only salvage a tie on Saturday but they did come back and salvaged a point against a team they should beat most nights. I think Coach Roque will have to boys ready to go on Sunday. They seem to respond this year after a bad performance and the coach stressed on the Laker Hockey Show with Paul VanWaggoner this week how important these games are even though they are non-conference.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2011-2012

Lakers are 9-3-2 after 14 games. Playing the top two teams (Notre Dame, Ohio State) in the conference over the next two weekends.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2011-2012

With the Lakers struck with so much illness, I guess a win and tie is acceptable. I was suprised that Murdock didn't get a chance in net Sunday (unless he was one of the sick ones). Now they have to get healthy and get ready for Notre Dame. The Lakers have played the Irish tough in recent years, though. I think they really get up being Jackson's team and all, and hope they can pull out a win. With the students off, I hope we can still get a solid crowd at Taffy Abel.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2011-2012

Hi folks. As said before I like following up on former cjhl/cchl elite players. When visiting a friend on the canisius team I noted raven was not there. I see he is not even mentioned on your posts but he is still listed on your roster.
Indeed he was very promising two years ago so seing him stuck is kinda weird and disappointing.
Can't believe he has an attitude problem. Has he been sick for more than a year ?

Re: LSSU Hockey 2011-2012

He is third string. Through reports or personal experiences with Ravn he has a great attitude.

I hope LSSU finishes high in the rankings and that it doesn't have a CCHA player of the week the whole season doing it. Congrats to the team for being tough even though they were ill this weekend-this year is definitely a team effort. Hey Paula maybe you can pick the Lakers as a whole as player of the week lol. Good luck to Coach Christiansen he doesn't need any more illness in his life.. Next season they should all get their flu shots lol.

There has been speculation before on this thread about why Ravn hasn't played more. I don't think most of us know all the actual facts, but it doesn't seem to me that he has been given a fair chance to show what he can do in actual (non-exhibition) game situations. He was actively recruited by LSSU, but coach Roque apparently has had a change of heart in terms of the role Ravn will play with the Lakers. Not to take away from the play of fellow sophomore Kevin Kapalka, who has played really well for the Lakers in net, but Ravn just hasn't been given a decent opportunity.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2011-2012

I also heard the team was fighting a nasty bug.

But here is what i don't understand about the world (well . . . lets be honest . . . this is ONE of the things about the world which I do not understand):

I know we tied Canisius, on the road. We took a win and a tie. And for this sin of getting a win and a tie on the road, we drop from 12th to 13th. And that is fair, I guess.

But now that Michigan State is ranked 20th, and Miami is ranked no suddenly 21 -- and these teams are moving up the charts and up the standings -- doesn't that make the Lakers accomplishments of sweeping these two teams more impressive, vis-a-vis the national rankings?

Just asking a stupid question, I know.

Well, I've said it all year, but this weekend is another HUGE weekend.

I think it's more of "what have you done lately" thing. Miami and MSU have both played very well since the Lakers swept them, including on the road, against stronger competition than the Lakers have faced the past couple of weekends. Plus let's face it, they have stronger reputations nationally than the Lakers do, especially with the way the Lakers have fared since JJ left.

Thanks guys.
That's really odd. Most be something personal or some networking as I see the coach just recruited another goalie without even trying ravn. I think he was one of the best in the cjhl for the last 10 years.

The fourth goalie, Tyler Marble, verbally committed to LSSU several years ago. Someone posted that his father is friends with Roque. He is still eligible to play one more year in Juniors (next season) if he so chooses, which seems logical since otherwise he wouldn't likely see ice time next season for the Lakers. He's still somewhat unproven. I don't think he's really established himself as a solid #1 goalie at the Junior level yet. He's bounced around a few teams; Wellington seems to be giving him a chance to play lately. I tend to think that the Laker coaches haven't been entirely candid with Ravn since he was recruited, granted that goalie can be a tough position to recruit since many coaches (Roque included) tend to go with a #1 goalie for almost all of their games.

Edit: On the Laker Hockey Show this evening, Roque said Marble's situation will likely depend upon Kevin Kapalka's status for next season. Several NHL teams have been looking at Kapalka and there is a possibility he could turn pro after this season. If Kapalka does turn pro, Marble will probably come to LSSU next season (and that might also give Ravn a shot at more playing time next season should he decide to stay at LSSU).
