Re: LSSU Hockey 2011-2012

I just got back from a trip to the sunshine state and haven't been on-line much while gone. Was the Monday Laker Hockey Show streamed this week, and if so, was anything of significance said?

The feed kept cutting out, especially at the end. Without a podcast it is really hard to get any good information out of that show, especially if you aren't around Monday's at 6 to listen to it, or they keep having the same old technical difficulties as they have now for years.

VanWaggoners is much better show, you can listen to it at any time, and it isn't all about himself. It is nice to have someone who doesn't berate the fans and many times the team, being involved with Laker hockey.

Big series this weekend, forgot being satisfied with a split, we should start expecting sweeps.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2011-2012

I listened to some of the show online. The feed was pretty weak and hard to hear, and I didn't have time to sit right at my computer, but I caught some of it.

Takeaways I remember:
Radke was expected to start practice this week.

Ferris should be a lot like Bemidji. Maybe a little better defensively and not quite as good offensively.

They were starting to talk recruiting when the feed cut out at the 45 minute mark. Roque was happy to get the blueliner commit and we might even see 2 forwards and 2 defense men recruited this year. He said with as well as guys have been playing, there have been lots of scouts sniffing around and it is definitely possible we could lose some players early and have to replace them with recruits.

I just listened to the podcast from the Wednesday show and Roque said Lain had attracted interest from Anaheim during the off-season but Lain felt he wasn't ready yet and wanted to play more at the college level before testing the pro waters. And I think Jean went to an off-season NHL camp. So those guys at a minimum are guys who might not stay their full 4 years.

When Bill interviewed Dave McNab during MSU weekend up here he seemed more impressed with Jean than anything else, even though Bill's interview focus was on Schoefield and MSU's Brett Perlini (Soo, Ont, native).

Re: LSSU Hockey 2011-2012

Pretty close with your prediction on the second loss, with the Lakers getting pounded 5-1 tonight. Pathetic performance on the road. This team still has no killer instinct, and I guess it will take more than a few wins to change the losing culture. This team better start skating for a full 60 minutes and learn how to finish off their plays. Ferris has just as good defense and goaltending, and they also know how to put the puck in the net. I hope to see Murdock in net for game two, and this team better show up to play, or it will be a long bus ride home. If they can win the special teams battle, they should have a chance.

Well you were close on your first prediction. But I will give my 2 cents for Saturday's game: lakers 4, fsu 3. I was at the game and saw the lakers come out flying. Lost momentum when fsu scored twice fast even though the first was called off. They will get that under control before the game. They have been showing us that all season.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2011-2012

The offense has struggled the past three games and the Lakers turned the puck over too many times last night. They need to reverse one or both of those to have a chance to win tonight.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2011-2012

Good job by the Lakers to rebound and play well defensively, and for Kapalka to have a strong game and shoot-out. This team still needs to find offense, and win the special teams battle to win. A power play goal tonight would have been the difference between a win and a tie. I think that they were like 0-9 on the weekend, and gave up a shortie on Friday.

I don't think this weekend will hurt the Lakers that much in the national rankings, though. Lots of teams ahead of them got beat over the weekend, including Michigan and Western. If anything, it gives Ferris a chance to maybe move up.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2011-2012

Nice to see the Lakers win in a shootout, but the power play was horrid and probably cost them a point tonight. Nice bounce back game for Kapalka. I'm glad Roque had faith in K2 having a better game. Kapalka needs to be play extra well if the power play continues to struggle badly.

Re: LSSU Hockey 2011-2012

I am pleased with the Saturday effort. Ferris is a very good team, and road wins, no matter when where ot how, are hard to find. So they salvage a couple points with great defense.

That PP needs something. Anything. 0-9 on the weekend. But once again, perhaps some respect must be paid to Ferris for some great PK work. From what I can gather, both LSSU and FSU are similar -- they rely on hard work, tight defense, and not getting burned on the PK. So from that perspective, the Lakers had a good road trip. And they stay in first place.

Now its off to Buffalo, where perhaps they can pick up a nice NC sweep to solidify their record. So far, this is a dedicated and good road team. I would love for them to pick up some wins against Canisius and keep that momentum and confidence soaring.

(As a side note, I see Michigan's "scary" offense has come down to earth now that they aren't sitting in their home rink for the first month of the seasno whipping up on cupcakes. Hmmmmmm.).

Re: LSSU Hockey 2011-2012

Seen the first game and it was sad to say the least. LSSU actually looked confused on how to play FSU. Glad they came back on Sat. speaks volumes about their character. I think we all know they need offense but on the other hand I think they are depending on defense getting them there and so far its working. Paula's article on LSSU is interesting and I hope the team reads the last sentence and makes her eat her words. Of course maybe that's a good thing since all her predictions are flopping in the wind anyways...

Re: LSSU Hockey 2011-2012

Not a bad weekend for the Lakers and points on the road are very important, even if they didn't play the best on Friday night. They are going to lose some ground this week, being out of conference, but very important games left before the new year. Coach Roque really has the boys playing well. It will be interesting to hear the coach on with Paul VanWaggoner on the Laker Hockey Show broadcast. I love the fact I can listen to it at anytime and Paul is a much more positive person.

Go Lakers

Re: LSSU Hockey 2011-2012

Anybody know anything about Canisius?

I see that they average about 400-500 attendance at the Buffalo Sports Center.
I see that they 2-1 at home this year (beating Bentley and RIT).
They are winless on the road (0-4-2).

I can't say I know anything else about them. Anyone?

Last weekend BG swept them at BG and outshot them over the 2 games by a 66 to 20 margin. Assuming the box scores were correct, it looks like they are pretty weak offensively. The games this weekend are home games for Canisius so you would expect them to play better there, but the Lakers should be able to sweep them if they can generate some offense. Unfortunately the Lakers are also struggling offensively right now so I suppose that could give Canisius some hope. Still, I consider anything less than a Lakers sweep to be disappointing result. This is their opportunity to get the offense going against a weaker opponent and they need to take advantage of that.

I just checked the overall Canisius stats and they only have 13 goals in 9 games so they average less than a goal and half a game on offense.

I hate these odd start times. I'm glad Canisus isn't part of the new WCHA.

Hope the Lakers can solve their power play woes.
