Lowell, 2016 Off-Season Thread

Re: Lowell, 2016 Off-Season Thread

Expecting big things from Goransson, potentially could be very Christian Folin-esque. I believe he was actually supposed to have been on team last year but had to take a couple classes from what I heard to be eligible.

With everyone coming back on defense it's going to make for so real competition for ice time.

I don't suppose there are any Chiefs jerseys out there? I can't wear mine in public for the rest of this political cycle at minimum

Lowell Sun article on Keith Burchett.

"He was a strong junior player. We think there's a player in there somewhere. We'll find out a lot more about him in the next six to nine months," UML head coach Norm Bazin.
The Hawks will wear throwback uniforms against Merrimack.
The team will wear throwback uniforms during the Friday, Dec. 9 contest against rival Merrimack College at the Tsongas.

This sounds interesting too:
"The team will also conduct fan voting for the best River Hawk players from each 10-year period with All-Decade teams from the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and 2000s, culminating with a collector's series of pint glasses commemorating each decade team and jersey."

A new Director of Hockey Ops for the Hawks.

‏@JeffCoxSports
Congrats to Troy Thibodeau who is the new Director of Hockey Ops at UMass Lowell. Hard worker. Previously worked at Merrimack and Denver.

Re: Lowell, 2016 Off-Season Thread

Did anyone go to the golf outing yesterday? How was the turn out?

A lot of recent alums were there. Just off the top of my head: Hellebuyck, Wilson, Carr, Arnold, Pendenza, Boyle, Chapie, Fallon, White, Wetmore, Falite, Blair, Corcoran, Massie.
There were also a bunch of alums from the early-to-mid 2000s: Collar, Kinley, Hall, Pandolfo, Stanieich, Hanlon, Tormey, Walsh.

Unfortunately, 2 separate thunderstorms sent everyone scrambling for cover in the middle of the day, which delayed everything. I had to leave before the dinner/auction, so I'm not sure if anything happened then.

Great to see so many alums attending, especially Wilson and Hellebuyck.

I know many of us probably only look for certain subject lines when we go on these board, and so you may have missed this rather sad news. He did quite a few games for Lowell as well. RIP.

I won't say this in there because it would be disrespectful but I never cared for his voice.

Now that being said, never having met or heard about him personally to do the things he did meant that he was well regarded in those circles and it's always tough/bad to lose somebody of that nature and to be sure he is as much of league history as the coaches and the players. People like him encapsulate an era that I will never truly know and wish I could know more. That being the mid-late-70s onward to when I got into this mess.
