I am interpreting this to mean that proposals like cutting the hockey season were not taken very seriously by the Leadership Council, and they wanted to see more "global" ideas about cutting costs....


...This doesn't mean that they won't reduce the hockey season, but it does send a message that reducing the hockey season won't do too much to achieve the cost-cutting that they have in mind. We will need to see how the Championships and Sport Management Cabinet, which meets in June, reacts to what happened at this week's Leadership Council meeting.

Hard to believe that the NCAA may be thinking in a much more healthy long-term mode than how organizations like this usually think, about 5 minutes ahead time more often than not. But yes, good news if they do take a large overview and approach cost cutting as something that cannot always be done in the most meaningful way if they just consider the quickest fixes available.

They've got to think outside the box to see how synergies within the system will work with those outside. The creation of their user unit is the logical evolution of market-altering work that has been done in the user pillar. The organizational changes they are making will help them leverage a culture of market-altering customer focus.

The goal here is simple: envision teams with phenomenal accountability and responsibility for infrastructure and business lines.
