Lindenwood Women's Ice Hockey 2012-13 Season Thread

Re: Lindenwood Women's Ice Hockey 2012-13 Season Thread

Congrats to Nicole Hensley for being selected rookie of the month. Her stellar play has been pivital in helping LU make such a great run going into the playoffs. Lindenwood has come out of each of the last 4 weekends with at least 2 of 4 points due to better movement of the puck from the defense in clearing the zone, a much improved forecheck and penalty killing, staying out of the penalty box and some really exciting late game "no-quit" antics. This playoff weekend at RMU should provide some really entertaining hockey.

90 saves - New NCAA D-I record for Hensley. Too bad she couldn't make #91.

Congrats on the 90 saves. She has had a great year. If she starts getting a little help LU will surprise some folks.

The Lions have already surprised me.

Re: Lindenwood Women's Ice Hockey 2012-13 Season Thread

Lindenwood's season ended Saturday with a 2-0 loss to RMU, ending an impressive 10 game run that included 5 wins, 2 ties and 5 overtimes. Playing 4 games in 5 days to finish the season was a tall order, against a better rested RMU squad with home ice advantage.

The triple overtime game Friday afternoon was a marathon thriller that saw Nicole Hensley set a new record stopping 90 of 92 shots in a performance that surpassed hockey goaltending cliché. Yielding one rare juicy rebound on a point blank shot, an RMU shooter one timed puck toward an open net. The door was slammed faster than on a rookie vacuum cleaner salesman on Super Bowl Sunday. In the last half of the third OT, a power-play rebound was eventually slammed in by a back-door goal crease forward. Hensley's first star award at RMU was a testimony to her performance.

The Lindenwood ladies have played with a lot of heart and should be proud of their efforts this season.

The weather didn't cooperate with the girls efforts at the end of the season. I think we might have seen a different story at RMU had they been able to fly out a week ago Friday and not get stranded in the airport. They would have played the Syracuse series last weekend (and maybe have had a better effort in the second game) and had a week to rest up for RMU (who they were 3-1 against in the season). Instead they lived on a bus from Sunday to Sunday, missed a week of class and effectively played 5 games in 5 days. They should be proud of the effort they put in on sheer grit and talent and Hensley should be proud of her effort against RMU even though they didn't pull out the win.
