Lindenwood Women's Ice Hockey 2012-13 Season Thread

Re: Lindenwood Women's Ice Hockey 2012-13 Season Thread

Congrats to Nicole Hensley for back-to-back CHA Rookie of the Week Awards for her performance last weekend against Penn State and to Allysson Arcibal for being named to the CHA Honor Roll for her performance last weekend at Penn State.

Re: Lindenwood Women's Ice Hockey 2012-13 Season Thread

Another nail-biting win for Lindenwood. LU ties the game at 2 while shorthanded with the goalie pulled with 41 seconds left, then gets the win with an OT penalty shot.

Re: Lindenwood Women's Ice Hockey 2012-13 Season Thread

Congrats Lindenwood in their first series sweep. Nicole Hensley stood on her head, kicking out 49 out of 51 shots. Great team effort all around, with a good balance of contributions from many players. Chelsea Witwicke with a plus 4 on 4 goals.

Re: Lindenwood Women's Ice Hockey 2012-13 Season Thread

Congrats to Nicole Hensley for the three-peat on being named CHA Rookie of the Week for the third straight week and the fourth time this season. Also congratulations to Lyndsay Kirkham and Alison Wickenheiser for being named to the CHA Honor Roll. All for their perfomance against Robert Morris in the first CHA series sweep in Lindenwood history this past weekend.

Re: Lindenwood Women's Ice Hockey 2012-13 Season Thread

One thing to note, a lot of the recent sucess by LU has been come-from-behind or tie games, late. Different from last season and early this season where the team may have trailed off, the team keeps pushing. Their conditioning has looked on-par with the other CHA teams and they've been out-working opponents late in the game.

Re: Lindenwood Women's Ice Hockey 2012-13 Season Thread

So I understand that if Lindenwood sweeps Syracuse this week, they are in a 3-way tie for third place with RIT and Robert Morris in the CHA and hold the tie breakers. As a result they would play Penn State. Anything less than a sweep and they finish in 5th place and play Robert Morris. They are busing to Syracuse to play Tuesday and Wednesday and then busing directly to either Penn State or Robert Morris, even if they have home ice advantage over Penn State. They will miss the entire week of school living on the bus. Is that correct?

Re: Lindenwood Women's Ice Hockey 2012-13 Season Thread

The information that I have agrees with yours. With the short notice schedule change, the price and schedule of flights must make the ugly bus trip the only reasonable option. Hopefully professors will be able to email lectures and assignments and be flexible with the players meeting their class commitments.

Lindenwood has put together some of their best hockey as of late, with some pretty good overall play at both ends of the ice, backstopped by a hot goaltender. As demonstrated by their late third period tying or game winning goals, “it ain't over 'til it's over”. Playing a full 60 minutes has yielded some exciting hockey.

Syracuse has had a very strong season, easily handling LU in one game while edging them out by a single goal in the other. The same was true last season. A strong outing by LU could make for some close and competitive games. Which LU will show up this week?

Question. If Lindenwood sweeps and it is a 3-way tie, how does it tiebreak 3, 4, 5???

Re: Lindenwood Women's Ice Hockey 2012-13 Season Thread

From my understanding as well, if LU sweeps, they would be in 3rd, then RIT, then RMU.

Re: Lindenwood Women's Ice Hockey 2012-13 Season Thread

It goes by head to head, regardless of the number of teams tied. RIT holds the tie-breaker over RMU and Lindenwood holds the tie-breaker over both RMU and RIT.

So how would LU have the tie breaker over RIT?

H2H - RIT V LU - 1-1-2

if you compare records between the three teams you'll get:
RIT 4-1-3
LU 4-2-2
RMU 1-6-1

So regardless of LU/SU outcome, this is how it should finish if these teams are tied.

It goes to the second tie breaker which is Conference wins. Lindenwood wins that one.

Re: Lindenwood Women's Ice Hockey 2012-13 Season Thread

Below is the College Hockey America tie breaking procedure, which supports Cali's analysis that LU would be #3 should they sweep Syracuse:

http://www.chawomenshockey.com/tournament/tie-breaking

Tie-Breaking Procedures
In case of a tie in the regular season standings the following tie breaker will be used:
1: Comparison of conference game results between tied teams (head to head)
2. Conference Wins
3. Comparison of Results against the top two teams
4. Comparison of Results against the top four teams

Re: Lindenwood Women's Ice Hockey 2012-13 Season Thread

Lindenwood up 1-0 over Syracuse after 1 on a goal by Arcibal from West and Wickenheiser. Henley stops a breakaway a minute before.

It has been noted on the RIT thread and confirmed on the CHA site that regardless of Lindenwood's results against Syracuse that RIT has secured the #3 seed. The first tie-breaker involves matches between the tied teams, meaning that all of the games played amongst the tied teams count. If Lindenwood sweeps Syracuse and ends up with 19 points, tied with RIT and RMU, RIT would finish with a tie-breaker record of 4-1-3 for 11 points. Lindenwood would be 4-2-2 for 10 points and RMU 1-6-1 for 3 points .

I am sure you all already knew that but I didn't see it posted here so I thought I would. Good Luck against Syracuse and then against RMU. You guys have had a great season. Congratulations.

From what has been reported on this forum, it sounds like the games will be played at RMU in any case. However, I would assume that if Lindenwood earned the higher seed, the the Lions would at least get to be the "home" team in the series and get last change. Most coaches place quite a bit of value on that, so Lindenwood does have something to play for beyond the moral victory of climbing to 4th rather than 5th.

Re: Lindenwood Women's Ice Hockey 2012-13 Season Thread

2-1 Lindenwood win in OT vs Syracuse. Post from West. LU has really stepped it up over the last several weekends.

Understandable CHA would have to make some decision regarding the playoffs, regardless of the ambiguity of their play-off tie-breaker. With the last minute schedule change, playing at RMU makes some practical sense but there is no guidance on the CHA website outside of the RIT vs Penn State matchup.
