Lindenwood University Lions 2011-12

Re: Lindenwood University Lions 2011-12

Club teams. No comparison. They would rank lower than most D3 teams. Other than rink infrastructure etc, from a roster perspective they start pretty much from scratch. SU went through a similar transformation three years ago. Only one club team player made the move to varsity and she only stayed/lasted for one season.

Thanks for the response. That's what I thought, but I really couldn't find any evidence of what they were on the net.

Lindenwood's been a club team before this season. Their club team was beat pretty handily by lower tier D3 teams over 4-5 seasons. I think it was the St Scholastica club team won the Club National Title the year or two years before they went D3. I'm not sure how many of those players stuck around for the D3 team, but they didn't fair all that well in D3 action last year.

Looked at the ACHA website and could not find where Lindenwood has played any D3 teams the past 5 seasons. Also St. Scholastica's club team has always been Division II. The last time they won the DII title was in 2006-07.

They're probably not on the ACHA site, (it's not the greatest for finding past info beyond a season or two). In 8 seasons in the ACHA the Lady Lions have 0-1-0 record against NCAA Division I opponents (Sacred Heart), 9-4-1 against NCAA Division III opponents and 231-21-10 against ACHA opponents

Re: Lindenwood University Lions 2011-12

From the previous Lindenwood thread:

How would this team compare to let's say D3, or the bottom team of the WCHA. IIRC, Syracuse had a club team as well just before they started D1 a few years ago. Not sure if anyone on that original D1 team was a leftover from the Club Team.

It says they beat Augsburg 1-0 and 4-0. Augsburg got beat by Gustavus 6-0 and 8-1...

Augsburg finished its season 3-19-1.

Lindenwood games were exhibitions for D-III Augsburg. According to Augsburg website recaps, both games were close. Lindenwood outshot Augsburg by 57-53 for the weekend. So that's how good they were last year, about as good as one of the least accomplished D-III teams.

That was then.

Re: Lindenwood University Lions 2011-12

By my count they have 13 new recruits. This year's team will be very different from last year's. Early scouting reports have the incoming talent well above last year's general level.

They will have their work cut out for them with the first portion of their schedule. If coach O'Mara can get the team to gel, they may have some success in the second half.

Re: Lindenwood University Lions 2011-12

Roster has been posted: http://www.lindenwoodlions.com/roster.aspx?path=whockey&

14 freshman, 2 transfers and 8 returning from last year's team.

Lindenwood's next two seasons should prove an interesting measure for other schools considering the jump to D1.

They should post their roster with "Last Team" rather than high school as you get no sense of where any of these kids played. Not good for building fan interest, or for creating a buzz among potential recruits down the line.

Best of luck to the Lions in there impending debut...hope to see the team launch the program with a good showing in their season opener with UW. Into the fryin' pan...good way to get it started.

Good way to show your appreciation.

Would not be surprised to see her starting with returning forwards Brett Lobreau and Kelsey Talbot. Looking forward to seeing her skate.

Re: Lindenwood University Lions 2011-12

In case you missed it, they've officially petitioned to join the CHA in 2012-13.

Can the CHA handle having two "Lady Lions" teams in its conference?

With Lindenwood being on the edge of both the WCHA and CHA footprint, it has been suspected they'd join on of those two leagues. With the CHA being more likely because of the conference's need for more membership to stabilize the league, esp after the Wayne State situation. The CHA will be a very interesting league over the next few seasons, having some longtime teams such as Mercyhurst and Niagara followed by a move of some of the top women's club teams to NCAA status- Syracuse, who began their NCAA program after years had a long history at the women's club level, and now Penn State and Lindenwood. Hopefully that trend continues, with Wayne State's exit there is currently no Division I women's programs in Michigan, however Grand Valley State and Michigan State have been perennial powers at the women's club level, if those programs use Penn State and Lindenwood as an example they'd solidify the CHA even more.

I would love to see the CHA grow to an eight team conference over the next few years. As mentioned above, it would be nice to see Michigan back witha Div 1 team. At another note, I hope the Purple Eagles can improve this season by adding a few more Ws.

Cheers!

Know something we don't?

Oopsy that was a typo, meant to write Niagara and Mercyhurst.

I agree, I think an eight team CHA is very possible within a few years. It would be a solid conference, espcially if they added a Michigan-based team.

So doe thios essentially mean the Mercyhurst will have gaurenteed NCAA berth? Six teams gains them an Auto-bid correct. Not sure that will be good for NCAA Hockey with Mercyhurst looking at a few lean years in the furtre. Perhaps they should require a team to win its conference title and finich the season at tleast in the top 10.
