Lindenwood University Lions 2011-12

Re: Lindenwood University Lions 2011-12

Good luck to the Lions in 2011-2012. Gotta give kudos for their schedule...pretty challenging overall. Quickly jumping into the fray with a handful of those opponents.

Re: Lindenwood University Lions 2011-12

This is a good schedule esp for the circumstances of pushing the move to NCAA up to this season rather than staying in the ACHA (like Penn State). LU has scheduled some tough WCHA opponents, probable future conference rivals of Mercyhurst, Syracuse, and Robert Morris PA, some DIII teams will help see where the program has come from after playing at least a handful of DIII teams over the past few years, and some games against old ACHA Rivals Robert Morris (IL) and Grand Valley State.

The scheduling was made even harder after Wayne States sudden program demise, as the Lady Lions had four games against WSU 2 at Wayne and 2 at LU.

Re: Lindenwood University Lions 2011-12

Do you think they will join the CHA next season when PSU does. They are already playing half of the conference home and away. That would give the CHA an automatic bid.

Hopefully CHA will find a team in the same time zone as the rest of the league......

Historically LU has explored joining the CHA, back when they were starting hockey programs they wanted to play NCAA men's and women's ice hockey but stay in the NAIA for all other sports.

LU is on the edge of both the CHA and WCHA footprints, but if the scheduling is any clue the CHA is the more probably, esp out of all the women's conferences they are in most need of members. Hurstfan pointed out they're already playing a number of CHA games, and that would have been a bit more with four scheduled games against Wayne State.

Auto. bid for CHA is important; so the more teams the merrier for sure.:o Logistically, however, it would make more sense to convince a team like OSU to transfer to CHA or take a good look at RIT as two closer alternatives to LU.

RIT needs to make the jump to DI first and that is at least 2 years away if the moritorium is lifted.

Re: Lindenwood University Lions 2011-12

I think it will take less time than that for RIT to be D1.

If the moritorium is lifted this year this would be their last DIII season, then a hybrid DI/DIII schedule, then full DI. At least thats how it was for the men's team when they went DI.

Re: Lindenwood University Lions 2011-12

When will they be allowed to join a conference or can they already join a conference starting this season.

They're allowed to join a conference at any time, although transitioning from NAIA to NCAA means they are ineligible for NCAA post season until gaining full membership. With schedules around college hockey pretty much set it's far too late to join a conference for this season. Likely we will hear within the next few months that LU will join a conference for the 2012-13 season. In the transition from NAIA to NCAA that's when athletic teams at reclassifying schools must play full NCAA schedules, LU is playing independent in women's hockey and all sports with the majority of games against NCAA opponents. Conference affiliations for other sports kick in during the 2012-13 year so likely ice hockey will follow that.

This year is essentially the big transition year for hockey and other LU sports. Playing a mixed schedule like this season's hockey schedule is common, it'll help provide a smooth transition and help the program see where they've come from, who they can currently compete with, and where they want to be in a few seasons.

Re: Lindenwood University Lions 2011-12

Do you think they will try to get into the WCHA just because its the closest in travel to where they are.

Re: Lindenwood University Lions 2011-12

I hear the Lady Lions picked up a transfer...a SCSU student athlete (Katie Erickson) who was at St. Cloud on a softball scholarship...now having chosen to return to the rink apparently.

Re: Lindenwood University Lions 2011-12

I was doing some research on Lindenwood as they are UW's first series of the year. In looking at their results from last year, I see they beat teams with big names, like Wisconsin, but obviously not the WI D1 team. What level were these teams at and how would you compare them to D1?

Club teams. No comparison. They would rank lower than most D3 teams. Other than rink infrastructure etc, from a roster perspective they start pretty much from scratch. SU went through a similar transformation three years ago. Only one club team player made the move to varsity and she only stayed/lasted for one season.
