Lfc 2015

Re: Lfc 2015

In the competition for hockey players.... Who would you look at?
THE FORESTER PROGRAM
The Forester men’s hockey program is rich with a tradition of excellence. Along with being the national runner-up in 1978 and a NCAA quarter nalist in 1991, the Foresters have had 16 players earn All-American honors. Lake Forest College and its hockey players also hold the distinction of being one of only two NCAA programs in Illinois. The Foresters recently ushered in a new era with renovated facilities and the program’s sixth head coach, Pat Kelliher.

The Pointer Way

The UW-Stevens Point men’s hockey program works to strive day in and day out to live up to the phrase “The Pointer Way.” Placed proudly in our locker room, we recognize that our responsibility as a UW- Stevens Point hockey player has much more to do with just hockey. Our program identity states: “Here at Stevens Point, we choose to hold ourselves to a higher standard on the ice, in the classroom, and in the community. We do this not as individuals, but as an identity. Our choice not only defines our time here, but shapes who we will become the rest off our lives. Never to falter, never to stray, this is ‘The Pointer Way.’” It is important for the present and future success of our program that we recruit players who understand, accept, and live our programs’ identity.

The first step is to admit you have issues

Re: Lfc 2015

Cannot forget to say Women's and Men's Hockey teams set the bar academically!!! Best news of the year and takes some of the sting away.

Re: Lfc 2015

Anybody watch the HBO Real Sports segment on the Athletics Arms Race featuring professors from Rutgers? It highlights what DIII Schools, Parents and Players already know…. The D1’s are driving up competition and costs while education / academics is sacrificed. Is there a gap to be exploited?

Re: Lfc 2015

Unfortunately, this has been going on for years. It used to just be the so-called power conference schools in the days before conference alignments were blown up, but now it involves schools that are lower on the totem pole as well.

College athletics was originally envisioned as competition between teams made up of students. Then people discovered that they could gain an advantage over their opposition by spending money in ways that were permitted under the rules, while others found ways to cheat. The end result was a total arms race that led to conference realignment and schools wanting to get into the power conferences. It is an unholy mess.

Trine gets Todd.....?

On this forum many questions have been asked regarding the direction, dedication and decisions of the administration of LFC regarding the Men’s & Women’s ice hockey programs. The coaches have been called to task to be more accountable in areas such as recruiting better talent without sacrificing character and academics. While the teams have proven academic success, statistics prove the mediocrity of the on ice product.

LFC purports to have a “Tradition of Excellence” which is a misnomer to recruits and their families. If the edict is to be middle of the pack but a great school, should the AD be authentic and at least revise/remove the statement? Must the AD do a better job? Should the coaches and their staffs communicate better publically at every opportunity? Should there be rigorous thought in how you communicate and what you look like? For example, sleeves over your hands when asking for money? How about covering the windows so they don't reflect… pay attention to the details instead of speed really!!!

The staff’s should question themselves what LFC Hockey stands for and communicate it clearly.

You are shouting to your Hockey student athletes you are content to be mediocre …. they know.

Re: Lfc 2015

Well one recruit so far....

Over time I have learned that no matter how many resources are available to coaches and regardless of the time we spend on getting that "yes" from an athlete, recruiting is still a 50/50 chance. No matter what division, sport or level you are representing, we all have those athletes we recruit who suddenly show up to campus and turn into complete wild cards.

We must become diligent in our pursuit and acknowledgment of the clear indicators that a player is not cohesive with positive team culture. If you have culture challenges or team chemistry issues currently, perhaps your special sauce in recruitment may require a new ingredient. Recruiting is the most crucial component in determining what materials you have to mold and build your program with. Finding the right players instead of always finding the best ones creates the beginning of the end to entitlement and team drama.

Re: Lfc 2015

Trine in with a large commitment of a new Rink for their new team.

LFC = After graduating six of the squad's top eight scorers from 2014-15, the Forester men's hockey team was 8-12-0 in NCHA play and finished fourth in the NCHA South standings.

Re: Lfc 2015

Their whole athletic department is underfunded. The AD used to be the baseball coach and does not understand hockey or costs associated with fielding a competitive team. The Soccer teams don't even get DISCOUNTS on things such as cleats and have to return their track suits at the end of the year! Eventually that's going to reveal itself in the W-L records. The fact that it hasn't yet is a great tribute to the jobs that Wise, Aitken, and Largen have done.

Is LFC just behind Marion? Sounds like similar issues?

Is there going to be ice???

Re: Lfc 2015

So Captains practices and off ice workouts..... how prepared were the leaders for this season? - good luck Jack & Billy

Not a freshman in sight and a back end that is still a work in progress.

Should be interseting fast start to the season!!!

Re: Lfc 2015

So do you believe that corrections have been made to win a couple stats categories this season... other than OT shots? Sure appears as if systems should be evaluated and adjusted to abilities of the team. You sure can't be successful with all the minus'.

Re: Lfc 2015

Wow, a sweep and some votes in the other poll. Lets see if they can steal a point or two from SNC. This weekend may dictate how the rest of the season will go.
