LEC (Little East Conference) - Keene State - Conference Realignment 2025-26

Anna Maria is also a member of the GNAC so that would be 7. Norwich and Albertus DO NOT WANT THIS. they are both part of the NEHC which would be a much stronger conference top to bottom. I believe Norwich would leave the GNAC if that happened.

Can just about guarantee Norwich would leave the GNAC before playing GNAC hockey.

The D3 tournament field size is set based on a specific % of overall teams. I can't recall the exact percentage off hand, but I think it's around 15%. The only way to increase the field size is to increase the number of teams in D3.

IIRC, 1 bid for every 7 schools

https://geneseoknights.com/news/202...rockport-set-to-join-empire-8-conference.aspx

SUNY Brockport and SUNY Geneseo are leaving the SUNYAC to join the Empire 8 as full time members in 2024-2025. Both teams explicitly stated they will announce new conferences in the near future for Ice Hockey. So much for SUNYAC expansion by adding Canton

Another important thing to note is that the empire 8 is one hockey school away from a conference that receives an autobid that includes Utica GENESEO Elmira and Nazareth, certainly a strong conference.

If you include the affiliate schools like Oswego, Cortland and Morrisville you already have your auto bid. and the Empire 8 commish is also the UCHC commish. MAC breaks away and UCHC becomes Empire 8

Makes me wonder if a breakup of the SUNYAC happens, maybe with Plattsburgh joining the NEHC?

I would think the break up of the SUNYAC would trigger Plattsburgh and Potsdam or Canton moving with them as travel partners. Canton is on the rise and Potsdam has struggled in recent years. would be interesting to see who lands where. If Elmira moved to Empire 8 would Hobart also make that move? Very interesting times ahead

I hope that's note the case - some conferences are just too strong relative to some of the weaker ones to not have a few at large spots.

Football is already at that situation. Out of a 32 team field, there are 28 automatic bids. Which means some very, very good teams are left out, as some pretty poor teams from weak conferences get in.

Under the current setup, the top 9-10 PWR teams make it to the tournament. While it is a 12 team tournament, it's hard to say that anybody outside of the top 10 has a legit complaint about missing the field. If we were to start seeing teams in the top 8 routinely miss the tournament, then we would be in a position where at large bids are seriously hurting the strength of the field.

Is the men’s NCAA Tournament field expanding to 13 teams this year? I believe we have enough teams to make it happen.

Its been announced that New England College is joining the LEC when the conference begins in 2025-2026 which will leave the NEHC with 6 teams all very spread far apart which i believe is the dealth nail for this conference. While teams like hobart elmira work with the UCHC babson with the CCC/Mascac/LEC and honestly norwich with the LEC fits great who knows where skdimore and albertus magnus end up https://littleeast.com/news/2024/2/8...hip-sport.aspx

The holdup for Norwich would be there are not enough women's teams in the LEC for an autobid yet. And if SUNYAC loses more teams, Plattsburgh COULD come to the NEHC (and would be welcomed).
